why did he pick the ball up ???
-
That was what all the controversy was about.
Senoir was offside and the liner flagged
Ball went through to the keeper and the ref raised both hands to indicate play on as the keeper had it.
No whistle was blown
The keeper then walked out of his area with it and put it down for a free kick despite no whistle being blown and the ref having his arms up for play on.
Senior put it in.
For me it should have been a freekick for handball..a free kick for them was an odd outcome.

comedians these refs :o

"York TV's edited highlights of the Blue Square Premier game between promotion-chasing York City and part-time Altrincham"
promotion chasing???? they can't even beat pub teams ;D
relegation battlers would perhaps be more accurate.
-
I knew I'd catch one with that, I expected it to be Ballers though.
;D

Absolutely loving your work there Phil!! ;)
Didn't realise I looked that bald though (that's me on the celebrations tapping the ref on the shoulder and telling him he can blow for full time now! ;D )
-
Ha ha ha I didn't notice that! I was too busy laughing at Hughesy going mental!
Good stuff.
I promised Hughesy I would put the highlights on YouTube if Alty won, but as last night felt like a defeat I did it anyway!
-
How did you manage to get to the corner to celebrate with the players Ballers? I'm sure that bit of the ground was cordoned off!

He apparently burst through the tape like Seb Coe and carried on running to the corner.
-
I'll be handing the video evidence in to the club who will pass it on to the police.
Hooliganism will not be tolerated at York City.
:D

As Alty365 says, I burst through the tape like Vanessa Feltz Seb Coe.
Those were some of the best Alty celebrations I can remember though.
-
Robbie Lawton celebrates the full-time whistle like we've won the league then acts slightly sheepish when he remembers its only a draw at 'promotion chasing' York!
1st class celebrations!
Cheers UPYCFC for the highlights!

Phil-that's a brilliant highlights package...Thanks

No problem Brian, glad you enjoyed it.
It's the first time I have ever put anything on YouTube and it seems to have gone down well so it might become a regular thing for our home matches.
I will post a couple of DVD copies across to Hughesy (if he sends me an address!) so that if you want to watch it in better quality in the bar on Saturday you would be most welcome. That's if you've got a DVD player, which I assume you have?
-
Great highlights thanks.
My take on the Senior "goal" was that Senior is flagged offside, ref decides he's not interfering with play so waves play on. Senior then runs forward to score, without first returning to an onside position (this bit's a guess as I can't tell from highlights) is then obviously interfering with play or active or whatever the new mad rule calls it. At that point ref blows up as he is now offside and so freekick to York.
Any good?

Im glad i could watch that was very interesting, i think we are looking stronger as a team

I'll have one if you can please mate, and do we fcukk have a dvd player in the bar?
-
Are you being serious Ballers?
You want me to post it to the pub?
;0
-
No, the Polish bar maid asked me to go out with her last night. I said I was at the animal sanctuary doing voluntary work, she'll killl me if she sees me at York celebrating Joe O'neills equaliser. :D

Agreed but the keeper walked out of the area with the ball
-
In that case I have no defense to offer M'lud - the ref has cocked it up good and proper.

I guess most is the same but, my version would have been...
A through ball was played by Whalley, Senior start to run for it, but as the defender headed it back to the keeper, the ref said play on as york had possession. He then acknowledged the off side to the linesman to tell him to put his flag down as playing advantage. Then the keeper walked out of his area and rolled the ball out, only to see senior knock it past him, while he was dosing. Then the ref changed his mind about playing advantage and gave the INITIAL off side.

Good stuff better than Sulktanna

Having seen the incident on you tube of the goal that never was. If the ref has waved play on and not blown his whistle. If I was that ref I would of given a goal. Even if Coburn had done the same thing and York scored in similar circumstances.
There is 3 similar instances that I can recall where a goal was given.
The first instance was years ago. I think Kelham O'Hanlon was in goal for Preston in a League Cup tie that televised on granada soccer night. The same thing happened. A goal was awarded
2nd instance was Kevin Deardan in goal for Brentford at Bristol Rovers about 8 years ago. Someone in the crowd blew a whistle. He thought it was the refs whistle. So he did what the York keeper did last night. A goal was awarded
3rd instance. Solihull Boro v Chester. F.A.Trophy 3rd Round replay. Dean Spink is flagged offside. Ball go straight to the keeper. Ref waves play on. Spink retreats to half-way line. Keeper kicks ball straight to Spink who runs unchallenged to score while the defenders are appealling for off-side. A goal was awarded.

But this blow failed to dent Alty's self-belief.
They launched attack after attack on the York goal and would have been level on 74 minutes had it not been for some slapstick refereeing.
The man in the middle waved play on after Alty were caught offside but, not paying proper attention, York keeper Stephen Henderson assumed a free kick had been given and gathered the ball before rolling it out.
A gleeful Senior pounced on his gaffe to fire home but the referee then decided to pull play back and instead, gave the home side a free kick.
-
Apparently after the end of the game the ref admited he had made a mistake
-
and apologised to GH apparently
-
so i believe
-
I'm a little suprised ATS hasn't commented on this. Would be semi-interested to hear his take on this decision.
Very interesting to see that the ref apologised afterwards.
-
Senior is offside but hardly interfering with play as the ball is hoofed 30 yards in front of him.
Senior then returns to an onside position.
The ref has made two gaffes here;
1) It's either a free kick to Alty for handball (looks like the keeper handled outside the box) or a goal.
2) Really as a team defending and playing the offside trap I'm sure York would have preferred a free kick for offside just inside their half rather than one on the edge of their box?
Another ref trying to be clever....it's very nice he apologised afterwards but not much use....a bit like a drunk driver apologising for killing your relative in a road crash.
I liked his pompous trot across to the Alty players celebrating the goal and if I was the assessor I'd warn him about trying to play steward between celebrating fans and players especially after being such a dick.
Yep ATS is quiet on this but will no doubt explain how refs are really rather super and we can't play the game without their interference.

A bit extreme, but I see what you mean!
Either way it was a calamity of errors, particularly on their keepers side, and they should have been punished for that. It's the age old question of when are referees going to be held accountable for their actions? A cock up like that could result in us getting relegated at the end of the season.
Just emailed the video to my friend, who's a Stoke fan:
"Your defence is absolutley shocking! How york weren’t at least three up I don’t know! I like the bloke who has the ball, under no pressure, and just stands there until the york player comes and takes it off him :D"
"York’s equaliser – I believe the phrase is ‘comedy of errors’ "
Interesting to see from a neutral perspective. I think on the night the defence played well overall, but wiith a couple of cock ups. Unfortunately as we're discovering in this league, it only takes one or two mistakes to be punished.
