Title: Today's games
Post by: Saughall Robin on July 09, 2022, 10:11:12 AM
First professional match day is here!

Good luck to everyone today!
It's been a long close season 😊

PS. Wonder who the trialists might be?

I see Wythenshawe Town have announced a new signing will make his debut against us.
As yet unnamed but is said to be making his debut against his former club (i.e. Us).
Wonder who it could be?

WD&C lead 2-0 after 38 minutes, both goals scored by ex-Robins - Ben Elliott from the spot, and Dontay Gabidon.

Byrne, one of only 4 "first teamers" on show, not at fault for either if RR are to be believed. Hulme, Marriott, and Roxburgh are also playing. Hayden Campbell is the only identifiable trialist.

RR's choice of half time music had better not be prophetic - NoMore Heroes, followed by the Carnival is Over 😂

Interesting game at West, with lots of triallists on show.

We played some decent stuff but they took their chances which were gifted to them, to be honest.

The new goalkeeper looked commanding but it didn't look like he covered himself in glory for their second goal (although I was at the ither end of the ground.

Baines seemed to be carrying a bit of weight and didn't look that mobile, which was a bit of a concern.

Marriott looked a cut above when he was on the pitch.

We went with Byrne, Baines, Marriott and Jordan down the spine - with the rest being triallists.

I'd probably take a look at all of them again at Trafford, perhaps aside from the No10 who was completely ineffective.

The full backs and wingers (2, 3, 7 and 11) all looked useful at times without being spectacular.

New kit looks ace.

Cutting to the chase, I wasn't impressed by any of the trialists, but I'd certainly be taking a look at their number 7.
Yeah, kit was ace.

Don't be daft. Wrecsam will never sack him! 😉

Baines wasn't playing, the overweight centre half was a triallist

That's a relief! I know he's a left footed centre half so I assumed that was him. Thanks.

Wonder who it could be?

It was Elliot Wynne, our ex keeper

Was quite happy with our 2-0 half time lead, but then the outstanding Brad Jackson was taken off, and we produced very little in the second period. Apart from Jackson, I was fairly impressed with Ross Barrows. I wasn't taken with Liam Brockbanks though.

2-2 in our third fixture of the day, too:

Who missed an open net with just a defensive man on the line

After being told everyday the countdown to the pre season etc, I find it strange that the website has no news of todays games or teams etc.

If it wasn’t for the folk on the forum no information would be forthcoming on todays fixtures.

Pre season rant over.

I was impressed that he produced a miss arguably worse than NcGoona. Admittedly there was a man on the line, but he had time to pick his spot from a good position. Apart from that he was good.

A report on both games on the Alty Files site.

I would say though that it would be worth making a recording of the ever informative (apart from on a few of those trialists!) Radio Robins commentary available online, if indeed this hasn't already been done.

Speaking of trialists, the West supporters had a song for one of their trialists (there was singing at all three NWCL friendlies I've seen this preseason) - and a song about celery!

That used to link to info on Lisbon trams.

Whatever happened to the mailing list? (I suspect I might be confusing some people here...).

Now I've got my marbles together regarding which players were ours at West, and who wasn't...

Roxburgh I thought looked OK - but sounds like he's well of Ross Barrows standard, which is to be expected I suppose.

If Hayden Campbell is on trial, I wouldn't bother.

My view on West game was Marriott and Roxburgh looked decent, Hulme looked like he's lost a few pound got very little service, keeper didn't have much to do, the rest of them did little for me

Went to the Wythenshawe game, really a game of 2 halves. Jackson looked good first half apart from missing a pretty open net. second half we looked disjointed with the changes made. Awful dry pitch really levelled it up and £4.50 for a burger was a joke. Hopefully see a better game at Trafford.

That reminds me, who plays at Flixton these day? I'm sure I read something about it recently but I forget who it was.

And do they still sell Lancashire hotpot there?
