Twitter says we've got a signing at 4pm. Who do we think?

Chorley's star player Lewis Baines is available and came on for England C against Wales earlier this year, looks the most within our reach based on that squad.

If he has a cap then it could be a goalie 😀

Ash Palmer - no chance

Lewis Baines - yep, sounds much more along the right lines.

The Off The Line blog (the publication that named Dan Mooney as their NL Young Player of the Year) had Baines in their NLN Team Of The Year at centre back - he's left footed too.

As I've banged on about it before, their Goalkeeper was Kiddy's Luke Simpson - who has left them due to being based in the north west...

Baines is, as well as experienced, much more the age Parky likes to sign them at.
He too would be a good signing but I think it could signal that neither Ferguson nor Jones are coming.

I agree with this last point - I think Ferguson is now incredibly unlikely and I think Wild would want to keep Jones.

If Cooper is still being considered, that would give us a solid foundation at centre half at the very least.

Well done mate. The creases on the shirt match.

Defo Baines.

Yes-the Non League Daily Twitter account (24k followers) tweeted about it with a picture of Baines 20 mins ago so seems like it’s definitely him.

If it is baines  would it be as a centre half or left back?

Think he's a centre back isn't he?

Hes played both left back and centre back from what I can see

Squad number is 6 at Chorley.

PS. Can you modify my posts? Does this mean you're a mod or just more computer savvy?

Sounds like he might have quite a big shirt number to live up to next season.

Based on the fact he had a big 5 painted on his forehead at the Yeovil game, I think we know which shirt number Toby is going to have.

I'm a big fan of having a left footer and a right footer at the back, so this one would please me greatly!

A very good signing which will bring a good combination of left foot right back in our back 4.

I think this signing confirms that young Kyle Ferguson has other plans . I will follow that boys career with interest.

Welcome to Alty Lewis.. Go well and enjoy the experience.

As TtB said though, he is equally comfortable at left back. If Ferguson is still available then ...?

Cannot go into the season with two CB's so hopefully we still push for Ferguson.

We've got at least three more centre backs out on loan (as far as we know)

PS. Said tongue in cheek as I'm fully expecting them to be released.

As Barrows was at Lynn, Baines clearly very highly rated by all the Chorley people. I think this strategy of signing young, hungry players from solid Conference North teams is a very prudent one. Welcome to Alty Lewis.

Fixed my typo. We've lost at the big stadiums this year, with the except of chesterfield (Wrexham, County x 2, Grimsby). Phil said his job is to get FT players who don't fear these grounds.

I'd like to sign a few conference heads alongside this young hungry bunch.

I agree - look at Isaac Marriott.
Title: Re: 'he's got a cap'

Exactly.
We need a left back, a goal scoring forward and possibly a keeper and then the rest of the squad will likely emerge from trialists during the friendlies.
I think our loan players will be given the chance to earn themselves a peripheral place but most are unlikely to make it.
18 to 20 players looks increasingly likely.

PS. What's the situation with Leitch-Smith and Pringle?

Yes. I think we need a top keeper but I meant perhaps that might only happen during the friendlies from trialists. Hope I'm mistaken and we sign a (young) corker.

Disagree mate.

Players like Marriott is what we need. As mentioned above, young, fit and hungry.

Don't need your Furman's and AJ Leitch-Smith's picking up decent money but often injured.

Keeper is obviously a huge one. Wouldn't mind someone late 20's with proven ability.

Still feel we need another top CB and forward.

Also LB and wide player.

Agreed. We certainly need a wide player and another forward. We've got to replace the goals and goal threat which Mooney provided.

You've completely disagreed with yourself. You want hungry players but you want a keeper with experience in their late 20s.

I want experienced players who have regular first team football at League 2 or Conference level, in and around the sqaud.

I suspect that our new full time model better supports young, fit and hungry players with sell on value. It certainly didn't do us any harm towards the back end of last season having these sorts of players in the team.

Surely, 26-year old Cam Mason at Southport needs to be a keeper we are looking at. Had a slice of ft action at Chesterfield a while ago and may fancy it again.

I have havent I.

What I mean is we need some experience in the goalkeeper position but not someone too old.

I am not sure about league 2 players. I think the top top players from the league below are more hungry, they have a point to prove to themselves.

From what I understand, yes we are because we offered him a new deal, but it is down to the clubs to agree the amount of compensation.
Title: Re: 'he's got a cap'
Post by: Bath Alty on May 31, 2022, 02:33:09 PM
And that compensation is supposed to be to reflect the effort the ‘selling’ club put in to training up the young player so the fact we only had him for a short time means we won’t get much. Mooney on the other hand we can claim a bit more for and had Duncan gone in this sort of situation we’d have got pretty much market value for. At least that’s my understanding

Your point I think was pretty obvious don't worry - for example Luke Simpson is 27 which I think is a great age for a goalkeeper.

Jaaskelainen is very young and ended up being released because he kept goal for a team that shipped so many goals, his confidence will clearly be massively shot.
