Title: Yeovil Match Thread..
Post by: Alty Dave on May 12, 2022, 02:43:14 PM
It's going to be emotional I think. If players fit I would like to see the following formation on Sunday at some point of

           Thommo

Dens Toby Tom Andy

        Jake  Isaac

Colclough Hanks  Mooney

           Hulme

Subs Hampo, Hall, Osborne, Kosylo, Morton

You know what - something tells me Parky will do the professional thing and play his strongest XI available.

Could be wrong though. I'd quite like to see this team too.

Thoroughly agree with what you say. Parky will save the sentiment bit until after the game, the fans will want to see us get three points to finish our last season as part time footballers with a win.

The lads who will be departing for one reason or another will,  to a man, also want us to go out with a win.

Nobody would be more committed to winning that game than that team.
And winning it for us all would be a great way to sign off.
Having said that however, I believe Parky will pick a team to win the game.

Watch his last interview.

He literally says that he will pay tribute to the players leaving by giving them game time.

Well, yes, given the manager's comments, I am sure we will see all the departing long-term players play a part in the game, subject to fitness, even if it's only a run of a few minutes as a substitute.
The Bromley match shows they are quite capable of getting a result, although I don't see that as the main point in the circumstances..

I see on the JL site that Yeovil have parted company with their caretaker manager and will appoint a new one next week.
There's a very strong rumour going round that this could be Phil Brown who, it has been announced, will not be at Barrow next year.

There's arguments on both sides here as to whether their situation will be to our advantage or not. Couple this with the likelihood that we may well be playing departing players without as many minutes under their belts and the celebratory atmosphere as we show our appreciation of them and it could be a tricky one.
I'm sure our departing heroes will be focused on the the job in front of them and will be determined to leave on a high.
As I said though, it's likely to be a very tricky one.

PS. Hope Butty's correct in his prognostication! 😉 (4-1 wasn't it?) 😏

Yep, I predict a four one win and a nice pint.

I guarantee the nice pint, if the result comes in that'll be three correct score predictions on the bounce.

Come on you absolute legends.

Might be on the last minute getting to the game today. The Chester 10k run is coming right past us and the road outside Saughall Towers is closed to traffic until half one.
I've tried to tell some of the stewards how important this is to us but I think they've taken exception to my Centenary Alty shirt and are just not listening! 😉

A reminder that if you're coming today, please do join us on the Golf Road to help support the banners and display planned. You can take your spot back on Pop, CSH or Main Stand after but a 5m banner thanking the lads needs a few extra hands

The game certainly had a bit of a whiff of pre-season about it in the first half, and we didn't convert our dominance in the second half. A draw certainly would have been a fair result.

If some of the peripheral players were on trial, then I don't think Dinanga came through at all - whereas Pringle looked lively, and Cooper didn't really do much wrong.

Mooney looked so bloody dangerous without ever really looking like actually putting the ball in the net.

That was more one sided than the Weymouth and Eastleigh games .  Ryan and especially Dan were all over them in that second half . Lost count of the shots that flew high or wide . Thought they were pretty poor for their FT and league standing tbh .

The thing I brought away from the game was we've got fantastic approach play but are crying out for a number nine. Perhaps Parky gave Dinanga a shot to see whether his time at Dartford had improved him. We now know for sure that it hadn't.
If we get a couple of the loan defenders under contract our next target should be a number 9. As good as we can afford and not someone with promise in the future or with a history of injuries.
I flat out know that's a tremendously big ask, but be under no misapprehension, that is what we need.

PS. I feel sure the club knows this and I've got my fingers crossed 🤞 they can find us what we need.
PPS. This is whether JH stays or not.

I've been told that when we paid a transfer fee for him, he was signed on a two-year contract.

Can anyone confirm this, as I am unable to locate any confirmation in the press coverage that greeted his arrival at Alty?

I have to say that I am praying that Dartford want to sign him during the summer.

I too thought he was on a 2 year deal but, as you say, let's pray that Dartford (or anyone, really) make us an offer we can't refuse!

I thought Dinanga tried really hard today. Not sure whether it's the quality of opposition or the way Dartford set up, but he's clearly not effective at Alty.

Thought we were at least a point today. I was sorry not to see Ferguson playing today. I’m really hoping that we can sign him up for at least the next two years.,  if I’m not mistaken I think Ryan has another year on contract with us.

Oh dear. We could always send him on loan again I suppose?
On a related note, I wonder what's going on with all the other guys we've got out on loan?

Some players just don't work out, Marcus is one of those. He'd probably score 15 goals for most sides at this level but just isn't clicking with our players.

I agree.
Let's hope another club with a few bob to spend (possibly in the NLS) feels the same way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we place him on the transfer list it's essentially an invitation that anyone can take him for nothing? That's how other retained lists seem to work...

I think there's the transfer list and the retained list.
The latter is for those being offered contracts or are already on them. The former is when a club is signalling the availability of a contracted player.
Transfer fees or lack of them will be discussed if an approach is made.
At least that's how I understand it (could be wrong of course 😊)

Sorry I should rephrase, the announcements seem to be split into 'on contract for next year already' / 'signed new deals' / 'offered fresh terms' / 'placed on transfer list' / 'released'.

Ultimately Marcus has had what looks to be a successful loan spell, so I'm sure a NLS club might approach us for him. Seems a good lad so I wish him the best.

I agree. Wish him all the best wherever he ends up. Just convinced he isn't what we need.
Most would agree with that.

Also, didn't he come from Stevenage? So he probably has links down there.

I think he means 'in general' and, with reference to us, he could be referring to the article on the JL website a few days ago.

Transfer lists are circulated out to our clubs saying we'd be interested in an approach for that player.

Said it for years but an evening with Rob and Phil discussing BTS of footballing world would be a great event (providing its common knowledge in industry).

Sorry yes, I'm probably not making myself very clear but basically I'm just second guessing what our options are.

I don't think having him contracted for another year would necessarily be the challenge we think it might be - he could go out on another loan of course, or we could announce him as available and see if we get any approaches, given he can clearly do a very capable job at Step Two. The management might even want to keep him for pre-season, although I'm not hopeful things would improve for him. Who knows!
