Being linked with a move to Portsmouth

By whom?

Yeah, where's this come from?

Interesting if there's merit to it.

Tell Pompey it’ll cost them a million

Thanks RiS, I've checked it out. It says that he's out of contract in the summer and could leave for free although Alty have offered him full time terms and are keen for him to stay.
Worrying.

Never a good sign when something hits the press like that - I remember something similar happening with James Jones.

I suppose it would have been impossible to offer anyone fresh terms over the winter without knowing exactly what it was that we could put on the table for them.

With the exception of Ryan Colclough, is everyone out of contract this summer?

The sooner we can get that retained list, the better.

It’s a difficult one, we should never stop a lad moving up the ladder, however we need to get a fee if possible to invest in replacements. If we get offered a tidy sum for someone then that could prove very advantageous to the club kicking on.

Alty are now at a level where we are recruiting players who, with luck, are a lot better than years gone by and  will be watched by bigger clubs so we do need to get them on contracts to prevent clubs just scooping them up as and when they are out of contract…

Hopefully the lads at Alty can be offered sufficient enticements to make them want to remain at our club.

There were strong rumour of Toby and Tony leaving in January, so this news of Pompey interest (coupled with his strange "2 to go" tweet.).

Whilst losing Toby wouldnt be ideal, we've found both Cooper and Ferguson this season so CB in a stable, full time midtable 5th tier shouldn't be too difficult to find.

I just hope any long serving players departing are announced prior to the Yeovil game, for fans to thank them properly.

Perhaps Jakes 450th sub appearance yesterday was a sign he might be leaving.

Toby is a class act, young & definitely capable of playing at a higher level. If a club of the calibre of Pompey did come in then you couldn’t begrudge him the move at all.

At risk of being all "never liked him much anyway!" - I'll stress I really like Toby and I'd be pleased for him, and obviously this is purely speculative as things stand and he may sign a full-time contract with us, which I'd be delighted with...

...I think the other two centre halves we have at the moment are as good as him - it hasn't escaped my attention that our defensive improvements have come when Toby has partnered with either of them.

But for cohesion we need to keep as many of the current squad together as possible - selfishly, I do hope he decides to stay.

That's just about what I think too.
Hope he stays as he's unlikely to be as much of a fixture at Portsmouth as here at Alty.
Given his relationship with Parky, his chance of getting full time here (and possibly the captaincy if jake goes) I think he'd be better off with us for the time being in the knowledge that a bigger move could materialise in a year or so.
Also, he's much better off under Parky than the Essex wide boys at pompey. (just my opinion)

Firstly, this all could be just a rumour, although it wouldn't surprise me if he was attracting league standard attention.

Furthermore, it occurred to me that several of our players must have already signed on, for full-time contracts already for next season... it could be possible that Toby is already one of them? The club wouldn't tell us until close season who is staying or going at this point, regardless.

I know we hate mentioning bringing back former players but James  Jones or Scott Leather if Toby does go as a replacement ?Although I'm  not sure the latter would go full time.

I’m hoping that we can sign young Kyle Ferguson, I think this young lad has a massive future in football

Toby for me has been a standout for this season. I do hope a deal can be reached with him. If not, then I wish him good luck. It would be good to get a fee, but not always guaranteed, that's football.

Got to be aiming for better than Scott Leather in my opinion. I'd have James Jones back tomorrow. It would be a deserved move for Toby who has really improved over the past two seasons and looks every inch a Football League player these days, albeit I am not convinced he can play a part in a side looking to break into the Championship.

The best part of 30 with minimal experience at the top half of this league. . I hope we can find better.

I think it's pretty clear that we'd get nothing if he moves on at this stage - and the same could be said of many others too. If he does decide to move on, let's hope it's an isolated case like it was with James Jones a couple of years ago. I agree the time has long gone for Scott Leather to return.

Coming back on to Jones, it appears he's found himself out of contention with Barrow of late.

Did Jones not have a serious injury at some point?

He did - and then got himself back into the team. Scored in that FA Cup thriller they had earlier this season, although I can't remember who they were playing.

Doesn't look like he's featured much in the last dozen or so, despite seemingly being available.

The fact that we can ward off clubs like Pompey is testament to the club's ambition - and also how settled Toby is here in the first place.

Brilliant - and I must say unexpected when I saw the news break on this - I'm delighted.

Some reports suggest they haven't given up on him - although now at least they'd have to pay a fee.

Full respect for Toby who could have moved 2 levels higher to a big ex Prem Lge team on a free and more dosh . There will most likely be some sort of contract clause for the future but nonetheless it's a real touch of loyalty to the club . Top work  by all.

No official announcement from the club on Toby signing. There has been on other players. It’s just a Portsmouth newspaper hack telling us what we want to hear. Just hoping it’s true, but it’s only hope and not fact.

If he's been linked with other clubs but opted to sign with us, I'm sure the club would put out the press on it as soon as possible.

Given they haven't (and given what has been alluded to at the awards evening) I guess we have to assume that he hasn't at this stage.

It would be good to hear a few more have signed on - I reckon Jordan is done, but we obviously can't say so because he is still under contract with Fylde.

Not to fuel the gossip, but last Sunday, Toby spent 20 minutes or so chanting with the fans on the Golf Road End. I took that as a bit of a farewell gesture, but he was on the beer, so maybe he just fancied getting involved!

I know I'm usually a glass half empty kind of bloke but I think you can look at this both ways. It could well be a gesture to show he's with us for a while yet. At least I hope so. I'm sure Parky will have said he could be in line for the captaincy if he stays on.

I have a photo of densmore (and others, Poole, Harrison etc) on the terraces at Grantham the day we won the league so I don’t think it’s a farewell gesture.

He and Jordan were both enjoying themselves in the CSH and on the GRE; given I'm sure the latter will be with us next season, I wouldn't read too much into that either.
