Title: Aldershot Match Thread
Post by: Alty Dave on March 24, 2022, 10:54:56 AM
Will it be the same starting Line up as Tuesday, barring injuries only change maybe Jordan incoming?

Personally would start with same 11.

Should be a good crowd. Come on you Robins

Same team as Tuesday with maybe Hulme back for Hancock but other than that absolutely no need to change anything.

Should be a great day, this fine weather should hold until the weekend, the team bang in form going for our 5th home win in a row in the last month, with hopefully our 5th clean sheet to boot. Loads of stuff planned off the pitch & I reckon we should get at least 2000 home fans in, ideally more like 2500. I think the initial thought that Aldershot might bring 500 could be revised downwards, they look a complete mess at the moment having lost 6 of their last 7 league games (including a draw at home to Dover & a defeat to Kings Lynn) and generally letting in at least 3 a game.

Famous last words but a big gate. sunshine & a few goals for all the floaters coming on Saturday with some Libero ales in the CSH too-what could go wrong?!

Haven't been this confident against a team at this level since we played Dover and that was a much closer affair that we all hoped.

A nice comfortable win in front 3k.

If the crowd is below 2k I’ll be astonished. We’ve levelled out at about 1600 on recent Saturday home games with little away support, we’ll have minimum 2k home fans in on Saturday and I suspect more towards 2500.

Agree about Jordan - Josh was pretty quiet on Tuesday night too. Is Eddy Jones available again? - if so, I'd bring him back in too.

Given the (assumed) bumper crowd, the nice weather and the form of both teams - all points to a 0-1 defeat doesn't it  ::)

I thought it was quote marked that PP in his interview said that Andy White would retain his place and Jones would need to fight for his place again. This and his not best pleased comments post Southend are clear signs the management aren't settling for a comfortable run in. Great to hear, encouraging for next season and a further sign of a real culture change sweeping through the club.

I fancy a comfortable win on Saturday, another decent crowd with all the off field attractions beforehand.
Weather set fair. I will be surprised if we haven’t got 3 more points by 17.00 pm

Alty 4 - 0 Aldershot
2008 attendance.

Same team but if Jordon is available he would be in for Josh.

Onwards & Upwards.

If Hulme is fit then he must start.

If not fit then it would be good to see Hall instead of Hancock.

Need to see what the lad can do, maybe for next season as don't think we'll keep Leitch-Smith on £500 a week sat on the bench.

Fans on shotsweb think about 200 will travel due to widespread disaffection. Could be sub 2000. If it's more than 2k, it'll be due to the pricing etc. Hope it is!

Blimey Harold! You're a bigger crock than me!!
Hope you're on the mend soon mate and the Supers can do it for you tomorrow.
I'm still isolating and will hopefully be clear on Monday. Until then, it's Radio Robins and lashings of Mavrodaphne (Mrs S 's Greek version of House Red!)

We're certainly playing positively enough to make (and deserve) our own luck!

A very poor game spoiled by Aldershot's negativity and a ridiculously officious referee. I've said many times that we should shoot more often in the hope of getting a deflection. Dan did just that ! It wasn't a great performance but we deserved it in light of Aldershot's performance.

327 travelling supporters - if what we saw from today's visitors was typical of them I don't think I could be bothered to watch them if I was unlucky enough to live in Aldershot.

A tad harsh on Aldershot. They never looked like winning but we were impotent despite lots of possession. The ref was interfering far too much. I considered leaving early at one point
Title: Re: Aldershot Match Thread
Post by: jhcorbett on March 26, 2022, 07:30:40 PM
Yeah, bit of an odd game with Aldershot just having the one man up front and 2 lines of 4 and 5 behind. We had a lot of possession but it was tricky trying to get through the Aldershot lines. Might have missed Jordan Hulme today in that respect.

Another home 3 points and clean sheet, so credit to Parky and the lads on keeping this very good home form going.

A huffy puffy sort of a win but at the end of the day the only stat that matters is the one that says the score. Another good 3 points against an Aldershot team that setup for a point.

The ref was intent on wanting to take centre stage and somewhat spoilt the game due to him being overly officious.

I’m starting to think that Josh Hancock is a little out of his depth in this league he never seems to get involved much.  The defence yet again collectively played very well and are now gelling into a sound unit.

When Pringle and Mooney are both on the pitch then we seem to get very left foot dependent which can, at times be a problem.

Anyway. Yet another valuable and deserved 3 points

The 8 yellow cards Mr.Miller handed out today mean that he has now dished out 62 (plus 1 red) in the 11 National League matches he has officiated this season (data courtesy of John Laidlar). I think that tells us all we need to know about his astronomical level of incompetence. Maybe he's only got a small (that's quite enough of that : Ed.)

I'm not sure Mr Miller wanted to be centre of attention

I would suggest instead that he was just poor

Even at my level an official who attempts to control a game with their cards is generally viewed with suspicion re their ability 7

Unbelievably, that’s 7 clean sheets from the last 9 games and 20 points from the past 10 games. Enormous credit to parky, who was getting some right stick after Solihull. Well done to the players too, brilliant change in form

Overall a poor game. More to do with how they set up  5-4-1 that went to a back 6. They were tough to break down and weren't interesting in anything more than a 0-0. We deserved the win after a decent 2nd half. Gotta win ugly sometimes

For me, that was ultimately a more gratifying 1-0 victory than the defeat of high-flying Chesterfield last Tuesday evening, largely owing to Aldershot's tiresome negativity and time-wasting ruses throughout the game. They got exactly what they deserved.

If only Perritt had tucked away that golden opportunity in the second minute then the game may well have evolved into a far more entertaining spectacle.

Five consecutive clean sheets at the J Davidson Stadium is some going at this level!

I think that you'd have to be a rather naive manager if you didn't expect to come under some close scrutiny after your team had won merely one of its last 17 league fixtures and had just been on the receiving end of a 5-0 drubbing!

It was a very familiar game from our stays in the National Division over the last decade or so: 85 mins of dogged, well organised defence, some timewasting antics, hoping to nick a goal from a set piece - but ultimately undone by an unlucky deflection against a superior opposition who in all honesty deserved the win. It's great to be dishing it out instead of taking it this time around.

As above, 90% of this league is about winning the majority. Of your home games, then avoiding defeat on the road.

Draws into wins away get you in PO.

Yes. I know our goal came late but that was a routine win as we’ll get at this level. Perrit scores that early chance from a corner and it would have been another Weymouth/Eastleigh. As it was another win & clean sheet & over 2000 home fans in-perfect. Good numbers from Aldershot but my god they were absolutely dreadful, the momentum seems to be with Kings Lynn now and I reckon the NLS beckons for the Shots. Good to get the Libero beers on too in the CSH, helps with the queues & the beer is top quality. Just a real shame the next game so far off now when we’ve hit a real purple patch.

Think Lynn have left it too late to reel Aldershot in unfortunately (as that's 6 points next season) but could be proved wrong. Shots fans seem to think they're going down either this year or next.

Be some nervous shots next Sunday if Kings Lynn beat Dover. Gap of 5 points with 7 to go.

Would be interesting if it goes to the final day as KL don't play as its their blank week.

Agree with others, far from our best performance, but we stuck to the task and in the end justice prevailed as we scored late on, deflected or not they all count and we were the only team trying to win the game. Referee was poor and spoiled the match as well. Good 3 points. Shame a lay off now until next game.

Aldershot play home to Eastleigh next. That's their best chance of a win. KL and Eastleigh wins would actually see the gap at 4 points.
