Title: Loans & next season
Post by: PaulClementsLaments on March 23, 2022, 01:31:32 PM
Am I right in thinking that only Harry Perritt of last night's starting line-up is a loanee? If so, we can see the evolution of the squad taking place as we slowly move away from the old guard (Moult, Hannigan for example) with newer players like Marriot & Osbourne really establishing themselves. Its natural that some our old favourites will play less of a part as we move towards a hybrid/full time club model, not that I am writing any of the longer servers off just yet! Last night's performance showed we can match most of the best in the division when we're on form and we have the basis of a decent squad ahead of next season. Kyle Ferguson looks a great addition.

Thought Jones and Cooper were on loan too?

Yes, both of them are on loan here currently. I think we've learned a lesson with regards to ageing ex-pros this season. I appreciate the experience they'll bring to the set up but none have made the impact expected of them on the pitch. Our route to success seems to lie in young, hungry and energetic players with a point to prove. Players on an upward trajectory, much like the club itself.

Agree Ferguson was superb last night.

If they weren’t in the starting line up last night

Correct, but they've been in the team during our recent renaissance.
Take your point though.

Jordan Hulme is also a loanee. We absolutely MUST sign him for next season.

I'd be very surprised if Jordan isn't back with us next season.

Doesn't his contract with Fylde run out at the end of the season? That should make things easier if so.

I quite agree. Good psychology from PP to give him the armband.

I wouldn’t mind seeing last nights starting 11 being here next season. Our defence and midfield are very good and with strength in depth. Also agree Jordon is a must for next year.

Toby M has come on in leaps and bounds this season.

Happy days at ML.

Suddenly our recruitment looks a bit more straightforward than it might have done a couple of months ago - I actually hope there isn't too much chopping and changing, but a longer term successor up front should still be the number one priority, it helps that hopefully we'll have Jordan beyond the summer for the transitional stage now.

I'm sure we'll look at securing promising players like Marriott on to longer / better deals too, and I guess Colclough is the biggest flight risk if we get the right fee for him.

Our other main focus should be securing the loan lads (including Jordan) on a permanent basis, like we did with the likes of Alistair Smith - even if it involves a small fee.

I think we can start to see one or two that will be on the released list, but we might have some tough decisions to make around those that haven't stayed fit.

I believe it does yes & so very hopeful he’ll be here on a full time basis next season. The fact Fylde’s new boss hasn’t recalled him & they’ve still been winning suggests his time is up there.

Have we done that before? Sold a player and then signed them back on a free?

Stockport's XI in the Cheshire Cup last night - completely changed from their previous League XI - probably gives us a bit of an idea about who might be deemed surplus to requirements, particularly given they're looking likely to go up and will need a higher calibre of reinforcements.

Personally I'd love to see Elliot Newby back here.

I think Gary Talbot is one - we sold him to Vics and then he came back to us not long after.

Did Leigh RMI pay a fee for Stuart Coburn or did he leave and return on a free?

The latter I think.

Dave Carrick (if Port Vale paid a fee?)

Talking of fees, I wonder if anyone is likely to come in for Alistair Smith in the summer (assuming we have a sell-on)?

By all accounts he seems to be doing very well at Sutton.

He isn't playing at Wembley today and from what I can see hasn't played since February. Presumably injured
