Title: Weymouth - Match Thread
Post by: MarpleAlty on March 07, 2022, 09:37:30 AM
After a decent point on the road, confidence is decent at the moment and we should be hoping for a win that could take us as high as 14th with results elsewhere.

I assume Thompson won't be available but Hancock will be? - sounds like Kosylo had a solid outing at the weekend but best to be on the front foot as much as possible:

               Drench
Perritt Mullarkey Cooper Jones
        Osborne Marriott
  Mooney Hancock  Colclough
               Hulme

Subs: Kosylo, Pringle, White, Leitch-Smith, Ferguson

I like that team, think I agree over Thommo, not being available. Josh appeared to be at a wedding, so hopefully available tomorrow night.

Totally agree with the above.

Does anyone know why Hancock was absent on Saturday?

Alty 2-0 Weymouth. (Hulme, Marriott)

Looking forward to it

A wedding, ok. Should be on the bench then

Similar to Saturday, I wouldn't mind if Kosylo gets the nod either, to be honest - nice problem to have at the moment.

With Josh it seemed to be more of a personal availability issue rather than fitness (as suggested above), so he should be fresh and available.

I suppose one other viable option would be to push Kosylo out to the right and give Mooney a rest.

A big game for both sides but especially for Weymouth who are drinking in the last chance saloon. They’ve ran some of the big boys close recently but away from home it’s 10 defeats out of 14 with 30 conceded & they haven’t won on the road since October. That long old coach journey followed by the game tomorrow won’t help either.

Our performance since the Woking game have been very encouraging & the loanees have definitely given us an extra spark and tightened us up at the back. I think it will be tight but 2-0 Alty I’d say which will give us the platform for 6/6 at home this week. We haven’t lost a home game to anyone in our mini league (ie below Southend) in the table this season which is another encouraging factor.

You raise a good point regarding Southend, it probably puts that result a bit more into perspective now.

We've got six home games left against sides in that mini league (Weymouth, Eastleigh, Aldershot, Wealdstone, Yeovil and Barnet) plus dead ducks Dover away. Plenty of points to be won there if we keep our heads together. Enough to get us to the mid 40s and above our points total and league position from last season.

Good luck tonight boys.
Here's two covid riddled pensioners who'll be cheering you on to victory unfortunately only via Radio Robins! 😉

I'm sure we'll both feel a lot better if you can manage a healthy three points! 😎

Unchanged team from Saturday. 👍

That must be the first time we've been unchanged for quite a while. At least it seems so.

Congrats to Parky and the lads on an excellent result.

We didn't let them settle at the back and punished their mistakes. Some quality stuff like what you'd expect from a Parky Alty side. Solid in midfield and stopped making the daft mistakes at the back and going 1-0 down early on.

Good all round team effort but Kossy and Hulme were excellent tonight.

Up to 14th, well done lads 8)

Top performance.

Loving Osborne and Marriott together.

Defence solid again.

Kosylo has been quality No.10 this season. The front 4 were a constant threat.

This starting 11 seem organised with a load of energy. Top night.

I thought it was an excellent performance facilitated by Weymouth who made no attempt to cynically hack us down or con the ref.

I love Karma, we well and truly gave it to Weymouth. Like the way Parky has tweaked how we play to get us the current run of results. Settled team and Matty was excellent tonight and well led by Jordan. Some quality finishing

We thrashed them at their place and we thrashed them at home. I’m afraid Weymouth will be back in the Conf South next season.

We were sharp tonight, in their face from the off and played at very high tempo which shows how good we can be. I have to say there were a couple of occasions early doors where our back four gave the ball away in front of goal, against a better team we could have been punished, but once we settled down we were very good.

Kossy was my MoM closely followed by Jordon who played well .

Let’s continue the winning run on Saturday when the visitors are Eastleigh.

I enjoy the drive home a lot better with 3 points in the bag.

Well done lads.

Onwards & Upwards

I disagree. Southend were weak and poor when we played them and, not for the first time in our lives, we absolutely calpolled them. Fair play to them for taking that and running with it but I’m gnashing teeth at that shower being 7 points above us. Honestly. I want 3 points in the away game tbh.

With regards to tonight, it was a very good game to just start T**tting it into the top corner from all angles a la Grays Athletic 2005 tbh.

I don’t think Weymouth will catch us.

Superb night. The funny thing was Weymouth started much the better & Drench had to make two decent stops in the first 10. Once Kosylo scored an absolute peach though it was one way traffic & their heads visibly dropped after our second. Some wonderful goals tonight-that’s the quality of our finishing now the pressure is off a bit.

That’s definitely us safe from relegation now in my book, even if we didn’t gain another point all season I can’t see Weymouth getting 15 more. Now to build on it with another very winnable home game on Saturday.

PS-that pre-drinks order option for HT worked like a dream, walked in and picked up my pint within 90 seconds. Can recommend to others.

Great result last night. We edged past King's Lynn, who I described as the worst side I've seen at this level, so to see us put a similarly poor side to the sword shows our growing confidence in recent weeks. It's no surprise to see us improve with a settled XI over a sustained run of games. Credit to Parky and Sorvs, I've been critical of how many players have come and go but I think we're starting to come out the other side of that transition now, and the reap our rewards for some good recruitment.

The goalscorers will rightly get all the credit in a 5-0 win but I think we've got an absolute gem there in Isaac Marriott. I saw something in his debut against Wrexham before his unfortunate injury, and since returning he's become one of the first names on the team sheet for me. Constantly there, puts himself about, can get around the pitch quickly and rarely loses the ball. Exactly what we needed in the middle of the park.

The gap between the top and bottom sides in this league is extraordinary. Some of the time and space they were giving Colclough was absurd, he was actually laughing when receiving the ball at one point last night. In comparison, we've seen how the top sides have pressed us into oblivion and we've just been unable to cope. This season has shown we aren't quite ready to be competing consistently with those types, but I'd say we are far superior to the sh*t in this league, and it's shown in the majority of encounters throughout the season.

Surely we are now safe and our target is to eclipse last season's total. Happy days.

The latest signings have been good, totally agree with Andrews assessment of Issac Marriott also Cooper, Jones and Osbourne have settled in well, stability in the the team selection is also something we haven’t been able to have for much of this season. There is gap between the big hitters in this league and the rest, but I believe given time with Parky & Sorvs at the helm we can kick on from hereon in.

As for full time etc I’m not really expecting that to happen anytime soon, the infrastructure of the ground needs a lot of work doing to it and I am of the opinion that the improvements to the terraces/stands etc are more of a priority just now, the main problem with both full time football and ground improvements is heavily dependent on a substantial amount of investment for both things to happen. I’m not sure whether or not that is likely in the immediate future.

Watching Alty is never boring, mostly enjoyable with periods of frustration but when you look at it in the cold light of day, and take into account the number of injuries we have suffered, we ain’t in a bad place.

A Hybrid scenario is probably the best way ahead currently

We've always had a wealth of talent up front. It just shows you what a steady back four can do. Three clean sheets in the last four games is where the real improvement lies.

Great result. I'll be honest when Jordan came back I was not convinced and of course I would like more goals from him ..

That aside he offers so much more than just goals and he is making a difference at the level above we are at now.

He gets In people's space and he holds the ball up so well

He is looking much more match fit now as well

Be happy If we could keep him

Eunice might have long since receded but Weymouth were certainly caught in the eye of a storm on Tuesday evening.

It was marvellous to see our attacking talents inflict such a tempestuous ordeal on them.

They were not a great advert for the hybrid model.

I'm happy to eat my words about Jordan.

Completely understood why he wanted to move on at the time, but I've never been a fan of second spells in general.

His influence around the dressing room has probably helped more than anything, and if I can decipher his social media posts correctly he seems to car pool (or otherwise be quite pally) with Isaac Marriott? - given the latter's own form, make of that what you will...
