Title: Dagenham & Redbridge Match Thread
Post by: One Foot in the Grave on February 24, 2022, 09:18:35 AM
It's tempting to look at their recent league record of only one win in their last six games, and think they're in poor form, but the three defeats have come against Stockport, Chesterfield, and Halifax - so maybe not. It would be great to complete a double over them after our 3-2 win at their place, but we'll really need to be at the top of our game to achieve that.

                                      Thompson

Densmore.         Mullarkey.        Mudimu.          White

                      Kosylo.        Moult.       Osborne

                      Mooney.      Hulme.     Colclough

I'd agree with that line-up, no doubt Parky will have something else in mind.

Going to be a tough day at the office, but if we turn up then we can get something positive from the game, and would be good to keep the points ticking upward.

Goinghave to win a couple of games of this ilk. Very hard to pick the players but it will be a 4-2-3-1(i'd go 4-3-3)

                     Thompson

    ?      Mullarkey       ?        ?

           Moult      Osbourne

Mooney       Kosylo      Colclough

                 Hulme

Alty 2-1 D&G (Colclough, ?)

This is one we could really do with winning.
I'd be tempted to go with Dens and Andy White playing for the continuity and defensive understanding but I think we'll see the loans featuring.
Hope we can get three points to celebrate Mrs S's birthday! 🎂
Come on you Robins, give an old lady something to be cheerful about! 😉 😂😂

The team at the head of this thread is the one we should go with. Hoping someone like Sass-Davies comes in.

Won't be Sass Davies if Wikipedia is to be believed. It says he's out till the end of the season sorting out a blood clot in his calf.
As we all know, Wikipedia is not 100% reliable though.

I would maybe put Kossy on the right. Mooney on the bench and have Josh Hancock playing by Jordon Hulme

And me, play Josh close to Jordan, Mooney and Colclough wider, Kosylo pushing forward from midfield  ;D time to push

Apart from Toby, how many games have the other three defenders played for us?
I hope they hit the ground running 🤞but fear the worst.
I'd be very surprised if we kept a clean sheet.
On the other hand, they need to play to develop an understanding 🤯 so what do I know?

That team worries me. Surely White starts given the lack of experience already in the full back positions? Where is Jake?

They hardly laid a glove on us.

They were v poor to be honest but don’t let that detract from some great finishing from us and a solid defensive performance…

Up the Robins.

Great result by the lads today, a slow start but once they got going they were very good all over the pitch.
Standouts for me were the back four, Young Marriott was excellent Osbourne was good and also very impressed with Perritt.

We were strong and aggressive in midfield and sharp to the ball.

I have to say although Jake was injured we didn’t miss him today. Not too much tippy tippy football at the back either which was good to see.

Jordon Hulme was back to his best today, holding up the ball and scoring a great goal..

A very happy drive back to Shrewsbury (which isn’t under water any longer)

Hope the linesman who got flattened is OK.

I was worried for the first 10-15 minutes, but once we'd settled down we played some really good football. It wasn't a typical Alty performance by any means, but the back four looked as if they'd played together forever ! Some good strong tackling and closing down, and Isaac Marriott was at the heart of everything. Three well taken goals too - especially Jordan's, which turned the clock back two years. I might drag myself on to the coach next Saturday.

Some real breathing space after today. Are Weymouth going to win four more games than Alty between now and the end of the season when they've only won five to date? Possible, but unlikely.

Marriot was outstanding today, notable mentions for jordan, mooney, jones and toby. The back four were outstanding under the circumstance's and i think most were shocked by either how bad they were or the fact we made them look poor, even though after the first 15 minutes i was a little nervous.

Really good performance.

Not seen us play with that tempo for a long long time.

Centre mids were excellent and Marriott was MOTM, he was everywhere and aggressive in his tackling and closing down, which is what we need. I agree we did not miss Jake, albiet an Alty legend.

Wide players were direct and the full backs got high up.

Hulme covered a lot of ground and loved seeing him bag one.

Defence was very solid second half and TT was excellent.

Fantastic today. The kind of performance we have become have come to expect from a parky side. Defence never looked in danger. The energy in midfield was exceptional and we never gave them a moment. Up top we played quick attractive football. Cannot fault anyone today.

Special mentions to Hulme who caused problems all game and got a well deserved goal. Mariott who I thought has looked a bit out of his depth so far was phenomenal and was my MOM. Covered every bit of  that pitch today.

They were very poor and look like they need a lot of work to be competitive next season.

Was the best performance I’ve seen for what seems like a very long time.

Under a bit of pressure from corners at the start but then Marriott decided to own the game. He won so many 50:50s (and a few less than 50) and it brought the rest of the team with him and in the end we were coming out of every tight situation with the ball.

They didn’t look very good but I do think our closing down made them look worse than they probably are.

One swallow doesn’t make a summer but I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that we’ve turned a bit of a corner today.

Agree with all said, welcome victory. They were poor, but we also made them look ordinary. Pleased with energy levels and closing down.

Pleasing to see the old guard scoring today.

Happy tonight.

Agree with what most people have said. I wasn't very confident when I saw the lineup, but, after a slow start, we scored with what may have been our first  proper shot on goal, and then went on to dominate the game.

Isaac Marriott is the sort of player who professionals sometimes say is not appreciated by mere supporters, but, as other posters have proved, this is wrong, and he was my  MOTM too.

Marriot showed up today. So many games we've had nobody grab the game by the scruff of the neck, even Jake has gone missing (by dropping too deep).

First time in months I've seen us play our style from 1 to 90.

Absolutely agree with everything said today. The whole of the team played really well, I think we maybe took Dagenham/Redbridge by surprise today. Everything we did on the pitch was right today, there was less passing among the back four and we launched more attacks. Our finishing was also superb as we took all our chances and could have scored more

My man of the match today was Isaac Marriott, though it was good to see Jordan back to his best. I also felt all the new players did their bit, especially among the back four. Yesterday was Alty back to their best. Their game was slightly different to how they normally play, but they were entertaining to watch as per usual. A clean sheet was an added bonus, especially pleasing for Tony Thompson and our defence. I did not feel D & R looked like scoring today.

All in all, the pressure is off us slightly now, there is nothing to stop us getting as many wins as possible. The higher we finish, the better our prospects for next season. We have some good interesting games coming up now, plus more winnable ones. Lets get our mojo back for the remaining teams in the top half of the league too.

Well done lads, and thank you for a very entertaining and enjoyable afternoon.

I really hope we get to see a bit more of a cemented XI over the coming weeks - especially in defence.

As much as Tom and Jake have been excellent for us, it would be reassuring to see there's life beyond them.

If any of these loan lads do well, hopefully we can think about who we'd want to secure longer term, or even whether it's feasible.

Tough game at an in-form Maidenhead next week, but we know we're capable of beating them and the pressure's a bit more off the lads now. Fingers crossed.

For a long-overdue welcome change at the J Davidson Stadium, yesterday afternoon witnessed us (i) not conceding the opening goal and (ii) exhibiting some splendid clinical finishing.

It was also reassuring to see that we can pick up points without having to rely on a piece of Colclough magic.

As others have stated within this thread, whilst Alty certainly upped their game, Dagenham & Redbridge proved to be unexpectedly tame opponents.

They exuded the indifferent air of a team who had resigned themselves to being unable to reach the play-offs.

I note that the Victoria Road natives appear to be far from happy with the current climate at their club and quite a few have concluded that Daryl McMahon has passed his sell-by date:

Not quite.  I was interested and had to check on this, but he was manager from August 2019 to January 2020, when he left to join D&R, but Macc still appointed another manager, Mark Kennedy, before they finally went bust some months later, and suddenly found hordes of new fans when the reformed club started at a lower level.

Having watched the highlights, as we say, excellent finishing, listening to Parky, he's correct on saying we were clinical, not the best offensively, but out of possession we were terrific and stopped them playing to much, they had chances but we got the rub of the green for a change. Long may that continue.

That's right. He resigned when nobody was getting paid. It coincided, fortunately, with the Dagenham job coming up. 😉

Saturdays performance was much improved. Lets hope for a settled side moving forward ! Difficult to pick a better starting 11. In saying that I thought D and R@ performance was not the best. Maybe they were looking towards the summer and the beach! Two or three more wins we could finish a credible mid table position. SBL

The only position I'd probably still be keen to rotate is maybe swapping between Kosylo and Hancock depending on the task at hand.

I hope to God everyone stays injury and niggle free now.

Wasn't too convinced by young Perritt. He was very good in the air but seemed very nervous with the ball at his feet. Parky shouted instructions at him continually throughout the game. Hopefully the clean sheet will boost his confidence.

Perritt comes very highly regarded from his parent club (but then again, so did Adam Porter!) - I'll be keen to see how he settles in.

Think I'm in the minority, but I didn't think we were great. Better than we have been but way off where we have been. Fortunately they missed a sitter of a header at 0-0 and that summed them up.

Hopefully a settled back 4 will help but I don't see that happening

If the result calms the Manager down a bit so he's less tempted to tinker with the XI, than I'm all for it.

The same group of players need minutes together on the pitch so they can gel properly.
