Title: FA Cup draw
Post by: robininstockport on October 17, 2021, 10:01:17 AM
Who do we want then?

AFC Sudbury at home is my hope

Quickest way to fund full time and a promotion tilt is to draw a massive premiership club away in the third round so easiest draw possible please!
Knowing our luck we'll probably draw Chesterfield, Forest Green or Wycombe away!

PS. Bowers and Pitsea or Yate Town (if they win the replay) at home (for once!) 😉

Crewe at home please. This was my first ever Alty game years ago, and I think we could murder them again :)

One of the big league 1 clubs at home please - large crowd and probable TV coverage.  Big earner and nothing to lose.

Barrow/Accrington/Morecambe away will probably be what happens...

Yep, big league 1 club at home please. In fact, anyone (except Grimsby) at home would be great.

Failing that, Sunderland away would be funny, as I've got Sunderland supporting friends. You never know, I did get my Southport wish!

There aren't really any interesting minnows left in the north and I'd rather we had a few in the ground.

I'd love a winnable home game like Oldham.

Not a problem we'll have, since we almost certainly won't get drawn at home. That being the case, I'd fancy a trip to Bolton. Having just watched Wigan destroy them in yesterday's highlights, we'd have a chance of getting them back to our place (and we'd probably get televised !)

It's another ducking away draw. Looking at it Gateshead is a really nasty away game, and Marske looks no easier. Both will be well up for it.

Marske are a good footballing side, I saw them run Trafford ragged and put six past Irlam, they (in my humble) opinion would suit us.

There are two outstanding teams in the East division of the NPL - Liversedge (unbeaten, 10 wins from 11 games) and Marske.

Marske lost 2-1 at Liversedge in the second game of the season. They've won all their other 8 games, scoring 23 goals and conceding just 1 !

Their main goal threat comes from former England C international Adam Boyes - I'm pretty sure he's played against us previously - perhaps Cult can enlighten us.

The FA Cup tie referred to above was against Gateshead United, and it was in the 74-5 season in the second round.  We won 3-0 and got Everton in round 3.

Gateshead United are actually South Shields in disguise.  But not the current South Shields.  They folded in 76-77.

Adam Boyes was a member of the Guiseley team that lost 2-1 against Alty courtesy of Greg Wilkinson's celebrated eleventh-hour winning goal at the Chequers End in the Skrill North Promotion Final played on Saturday, 10th May, 2014.

Marske humiliated Chester in a replay, it really is a horrible draw. Play at our best and we have to be confident but both clubs are high up in their leagues, they should be bubbling with confidence for a nice juicy home tie.

Right, that's a couple of weeks away. Come on Alty.

Cant help but feel Gateshead would be less of a banana skin, we know the ground and set up, most of the players and we know the pitch is decent.  Marske have shown they can do very well, they would be so up for it.

Gateshead clearly a good side but went to sleep twice to allow Marske back into the game when they should have been home and dry. We’ll definitely take to the Gateshead pitch better than the Marske one. As long as we turn up I think we’ll be through to the 2nd round but Gateshead will be buoyed by this win so take nothing for granted.

Yate Town v Dover Athletic was postponed (it never started) because of a floodlight failure.

There are claims and counter-claims going around as to whether the floodlights were not fixed by the referee's deadline (according to Dover), or they were fixed by 8.34, just after the deadline of 8.30 PM, but  Dover didn't fancy it (according to Yate). Both could be true.

EDIT- I had got the original deadline time wrong.

The change from BBC/BT Sport to BBC/ITV will bring some changes, however it seems that there are further games that are going to be televised & not played on Saturday at 3pm, so this may well still happen.

Shrewsbury get more than their fair share of tv gigs

Stratford v Shrewsbury is a genuinely intriguing cup tie, though, and the commentators won't be able to resist Shakespearean links like the Taming of the Shrews.

Any team that knock Boston United out are OK by me. Shrewsbury will be trying to avoid The Tempest no doubt.

Shrewsbury may be thinking that they are playing a team from a little "Hamlett". SBL  :) :)
