Title: Altrincham deducted 3 points
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on March 26, 2021, 05:08:28 PM
Dover fined 40 grand, all results expunged for this season. 12 point deduction for next season

I think the fine will drive them under, cant see them starting next year so the league will be 2 teams short

I would have thought they could crowd fund that if they made enough noise about it.

I think they've got away cheaply imo. Laurence Looney said the other night it would cost us £200,000 to complete the season so they're being fined 20% of that plus their savings on players wages.
They should have been demoted to at least NLS which would balance the numbers out at 22 in all three divisions.

Agree, they got off pretty lightly.

Guess expunging all their results was way forward to let other teams play on on an equal playing field (fines, demotions, etc effect them directly on top of having results nulified)... we drop 2 places as a result...

That would have involved common sense.

I blame Adarabioyo for scoring at Dover.

If only Byron Harrison had been playing instead, we would now have had just a single point deducted.

I see NLN and NLS teams that refused to play have been fined £2,000 a game missed.

Meanwhile Spirites have been successful in gaining a £1M loan.

That's £50K a year over 20 years! They really are doing S or B aren't they?
Bit incongruous with putting several players on furlough whilst signing several more.
Didn't they asset strip the Gloucester side after promising not to as well?
Doesn't seem to be the home of integrity, Chesterfield, does it?

They owe another £1m to the council. I wouldn't have thought the terms would have been so good.

Apparently, according to Sky, Dover are planning to appeal and will take legal advice.
But I thought they had  no money and had spent all their reserves....

I agree.....let off lightly. Cost them 40k and 12 points to avoid spending a couple of hundred thousand pounds.

Then again, to add a bit of controversy, they did vote to end the season when the Grant's were ended and potential loans offered. Clubs that voted to carry on in what may now be a dead rubber are now incurring costs they knew existed at the time of voting

Dover got off very lightly financially, and I hope they are allowed to stay in the National as that would make them relegation certs!

they should be made to pay every club that has travelled down to Dover their full costs of transport, wages and accomodation!

Dover's appeal can only be an attempt on their part to be removed from the National League as my understanding this ruling is after referral to an independent body? They took unilateral action to stop playing despite all other 22 members of the Division continuing to play on after a vote, including those whose preference was not to continue. You either want to be a member of a club and accept its member's democratically arrived at decisions or you don't.

At the heart of all of this is how a large number of National League member clubs seemed to be under the impression that Govt support was always going to be in the form of grant funding. Given that the 2nd major tranche of support transpired to be primarily loans, but also means tested, suggests that this was never a given. Could it be that Nat League chairs were just a bit too complacent?

In fairness grants were only ever promised for the first part of the season. There was always going to be doubts over further funding.

They often cite the integrity of the competition - but what sort of integrity will they have left when they're expunging Dover's results AGAIN this time next season - but because they've gone bust, having handed every team in the league a walkover up to that point?

Just place them in the South FFS. At least give their fans a chance of enjoying some football next season.

If they're desperate to get to 24 clubs in each division, they can so easily sort it out the year after - 4 up 2 down, then only send the bottom club down in North/South whilst sending all 8 from the feeder leagues up. Net gain of 6 clubs across the NL system, job done.
