Title: ALTY v Kings Lynn Match Thread
Post by: Inter Alty! on March 21, 2021, 03:22:37 PM
Well God knows what the team will be after so many changes over recent games & loanees coming in to help with injuries... assume Smithy still injured & know Kosylo out for his 2nd game of two due to reaching 10 yellow cards...

This is my guess...

                            Thompson
Richman   Mullarkey   Hannigan   Connor
                         Moult   Williams
              Ceesay   Hancock   Colclough
                                  Bell

Subs: Senior, Ogle, Hardy, Peers, Piggott

Score prediction: Alty win 2-1 (Bell, Hancock)

Hoping for a win, but need to start finding the net... COYR!

Very hard to pick a team with number of niggling injuries. Would defo have Hampson and Smith starting if fit.

Think Piggott will start over Bell.

Really do need to win this.

Alty 1-0 KL (Piggott)

Think Bell or Piggott could start up front with other on bench... just went for Bell as Piggott played 70mins yesterday & is inching back to match fitness & think Tues too soon after Sat... if was Sat game would plump for Piggott as he put himself about well in 1st half yesterday without obviously scoring... think may start Bell then bring Piggott on for last 20-30mins if not winning... to be honest without know how fit players are, injury updates, etc so God knows what team will be...

Just hope we win with whoever Parky puts out on Tues eve...

DON'T FORGET FELLOW ROBINS THAT KO IS 7PM!!!
... so don't turn stream on late or you'll miss 1st half!

We've brought Bell in on loan and given him about 40.minutes so far.

Time to give him a go.

It would be good if someone from the Club could provide fans with an injury update with so many players missing for various reasons... the lack of a settled side has impacted us this season... when are the following due to be fit?

Smith - injured
Dens - injured
White - injured
Mooney - injured?
Gibson - injured
Adarabioyo - injured
Zouma - injured or just subbed early?
Ogle - injured or just subbed early?
Piggott - how close to full match fitness?
Hardy - how close to full match fitness?
Kosylo - suspended - available after Kings Lynn game

Think that's everyone, though may have missed someone...

Nyal Bell, at 24, looks like the type of player that just needs to be starting week in week out at this stage of his career.

He's shown recently (albeit in a short spell) that he knows where the net is at this level, he's clearly in shape and doesn't have the same fitness question marks that make everyone else before him a bit of a punt.

I suspect he'll start with Piggott again, but I really want to see Bell given a go from the start.

The good news is the return of Alistair Smith.

Hardy replaces Ceesay:

Rode our luck in the early stages, but lots of good individual performances, pretty pleased with that.

Senior looks comfortable on the left hand side, and Ringo did well again on the right. Doesn't seem to be any less capable than Ogle there to be honest.

Alistair coming back made a massive difference, although he seemed to strugle a bit more when pushed up following Hancock's departure.

Hardy was excellent, and Piggott did well too. Would have liked to have seen more of Bell.

Excellent performance that. Smith was everywhere, future club captain I reckon. Hardy as well, the boy has dancing feet, what a goal. A lot of positives to take & a really professional job to ease up and keep it tight at 3-0. Feels like we are back on track.

Solid enough performance all told.

Hardy was oustanding, not sure how we get Kosylo back in.

Maidenhead will be much better than KL

I'd start Hardy at Maidenhead and leave Kosylo on the bench. We have played far better than that and lost, so I'm not getting over-excited. It's difficult to play a passing game if you give away so much possession.

Post by: Sale Holmfield on March 23, 2021, 09:48:08 PM
That was a strange game. We did play well, apart from some poor passes in midfield which lost possession, but I thought King's Lynn were really good for most of the match, and did not deserve to lose 3-0.

Alastair Smith showed how much he has been missed for the last couple of games, while Piggott and Hardy both did well. I was very sorry to see Simon Richman go off injured after playing well in a rare opportunity.

The biggest win of the season, however it's secured, must be good for morale and it looks like we are set to be best of the promoted teams, as mentioned in the programme.

Great to return to winning ways and to score three goals... Our game management towards the end was also good... Kings Lynn had opportunities and started better, plus we still have room for improvement, but happy with result...

Hardy & Piggott did well and in Piggott's case getting more & more game time for match fitness... Hancock amongst goals again & good to have Smithy back... clean sheet added bonus... hope Ringo not badly injured at end as had enough injuries this season... roll on Sat when we go again!

We'll need to play better against Maidenhead... COYR!

Well done to the lads for a great result, but saying that Kings Lynn very unlucky with 2 quality strikes smacking the bar.

Still, some good performances tonight and we looked more dangerous up front than in recent games, although not sure KL keeper has played much at this level, so that didn't help KL.

Tony T made another quality save again and the defence did well overall. As mentioned, we are still giving the ball away too much for our passing game but well pleased with the result.

If I were the King's Lynn chairman, I'd furlough that goalkeeper ASAP and play the 50-year-old Paul Bastock instead.

A fine performance against a team who matched us until we scored our 2nd.
Smith was limping at the end, which is a worry given he is our best player by a mile.
Hardy did very well but I'd still choose Kysolo ahead of him. Still, no need to muck around with other wingers now.
Piggott worked hard and given time, maybe the goals will come - I'd like to see Bell get more game time.
I've no idea what the team will be on Saturday as so many players appear to be unavailable at the moment.
We can all be pretty happy tonight 😊

I was happy. A draw on Saturday against a stronger team and I'll be happier still.

I hope Smith and Ringo aren't too bad. Ringo was strugging with a knock before the tackle that caused him to be substituted.

Win is a win, well done Alty
Effort was there, and Hardy & Ritchman did really well.
Smith & Colclough are a handful for any opposing team.
Kings Lynn were lively and passed the ball well for 15 or 20 minutes, Gash is also a handful but faded.
Their Goalie had a difficult night though.
Game over at 3-0.
Maidenhead will be a different proposition, but for what the season holds for us now I’d keep the same team, if all fit.

Difference last night was our finishing, we created a bit more and we finished the moves, that was the difference over recent performances. More of the same please.

If all fit, why change a winning side!!

Kosylo's played a lot of minutes this season, I'd be tempted to keep him on the bench for the weekend.

That said, I'd much rather we gave subs a good half-hour to make a difference - happens all the way up to the Prem, I can't be the only person that find that a bit frustrating!

"go on there and make an impact, lad - you've got 10 minutes"

3 points- happy days.
I thought everyone put a shift in without anyone really shining.
Smith was all over the park, probably my first name on the team sheet each week.
Hardy showed glimpses of class and defo deserved a start. Great goal.
TT made another fantastic save.
Moult was a lot more steady with Smith next to him.
Still need a left sided player at LB. Senior did OK but looked to pass inside a lot and a couple of his balls were cut out and put us under pressure.
Need to be much better on Sat. Unfortunately I think Hardy will lose his place to Kossy ( more enegry and direct play ) but he should be our first sub choice.

26 goals from. Midfielders
9 from strikers

5 goals if we remove Fa Cup and trophy

It's fascinating to observe just how different the perceptions of the same football match can be.

Take Josh Hancock's second goal last evening, for example, which elicited the following descriptions of his free kick:

(1) the Altrincham FC website match report:

"Hancock took aim from a free-kick a good 25 yards out, slightly to the right of the D, and curled it imperiously over the wall and past the diving Richardson to record the 350th goal of Phil Parkinson's spectacular reign as Alty boss."

(2) the Altrincham FC Twitter updates:

"Hancock bent a delightful free-kick into the top right corner."

(3) the King's Lynn Town FC website match report:

"Altrincham extended their lead on 57 minutes with a bit of luck. Hancock’s free kick from just outside the area saw it take a deflection off the Lynn wall and beat Theo Richardson in goal."

(4) the match report on John Laidlar's website:

"From 22 yards, slightly right of centre, Josh Hancock's freekick deflected off the wall and looped past Richardson to double Alty's lead.

Jackson's two shots against the bar and this slightly fortuitous Alty goal must have confirmed to King's Lynn that their luck was out tonight (58 mins)."

I have to say that John Laidlar's account corresponds most closely to my own view of the incident.

JL site usually most reliable.

Normally a balanced view with any occasional bias made obvious by the inclusion of some subtle cynicism
