Title: Chester - Match Thread
Post by: MarpleAlty on December 16, 2020, 08:43:35 AM
Thompson
Senior
Sutton (hopefully)
Hannigan
White
Moult (c)
Smith
Kosylo
Hancock
Ceesay
Peers

Subs: Gould, Densmore, Hampson, Richman, Harrison, Salmon

Given our lack of wide options, I wouldn't be surprised if we use Hampson on the left wing later on - particularly if the game's going to plan and we switch to 4141 again.

Would be nice to have a bit of a run in this competition - there's not many teams to fear at this level, and half of them won't be arsed anyway.

Given the injury update I wouldn’t risk Sutton being out for a while if some sort of contact makes the injury worse. Play Jake at the back and make sure Sutton is available for when Jake is suspended. Richman in midfield

Think Parky would have used game to look at some fringe players but due to all the injuries maybe forced to play virtually full strength team... however, wouldn't be surprised to see Gould get a chance in goal...

Prediction: Alty 2-1 win...

Hopefully later today will get good news about tier2... however in last week optimism for tier2 seems to be replaced with pessimism of staying in tier3... Trafford has one of lowest counts so could be an exception, but assume will treat whole of Greater Manc the same... fingers crossed for tier2... missing watching live footy & matchday experience... Let fans in!

Hampson is fit, just missed last game because of an ear infection so if Sutton is touch and go then Hampson CB to keep Jake holding.

I would have Harrison nvolved in the game. See what he is about.

I would have Harrison involved in the game. See what he is about.

With the next game a full week away, I don't think he'll be too tempted to rotate at this stage, everyone will get minutes in the coming weeks.

Yeah definitely Hampson over Moult at CB if required - the update seemed quite confident about Sutton's involvement so I assume he'd start if so. In which case, I'd leave Connor on the bench for this one and bring him on to play a wide midfield role in front of Andy White in the second half.

Gould over Thompson in net is a good shout - the update suggested Harrison would get some minutes up top, so I assume this would be off the bench.

We're a team of momentum. We've a full week until Stockport. We rotated a lot against Stockport in the trophy which rocked our form:

Peers outside, Ceesay up top. Moult at CB if Sutton unfit, with Dens in the middle.

Probably the most comfortable we've been against Chester in recent times. We actually looked liked a team that played in a higher division.

Pretty solid performance, just didnt quite keep possession well enough at times.
What a strike from JS and great finish from Tom.
New lad in defence did OK. Going to miss Jake for the next game.
Some more money in the coffers.
Well done everyone.

Getting into the next round was the main thing but still that was a decent win in quite an entertaining game, all the 3 goals were top drawer.
Defence held out well against a bit of an aerial test late on and new centre-back Harrison Holgate looked solid.

Well done lads, see who we get on Monday in the next round.

Been working all day today so is an absolute joy to finish work and find out that we are through to the next round.  I fully expected the usual desultory exit from a competition that hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us in a long time.

This result, combined with recent performances in the league, suggests to me that this side has developed a key factor for any team that wants success - resilience.

This sort of game would not have gone our way in most of the last 30 or so seasons - this side is going places - hopefully all the way to Wembley!

To be honest, having not looked at the Chester team sheet beforehand, I didn't realise JJ was playing until the second half!!! An absolute shadow of the player I remember.

Great win for the lads though in a competition we really do have a great chance of winning.

He looked great in the Evo Stik but found his level in the National League North. No different to so many other wingers in that league who have the odd worldie day here and there but ineffective the rest.

We've had multiple wingers in the Phil era I'd take ahead of him - Dale, Hemmings, Mooney, Durrell, Colclough - although I'd have him over Ceesay.

I thought JJ was better than that - apparently not!

Very disappointing!

On the plus side...very well done lads...and is betting off for young player of the season already - step forward Joel Senior!

No disrespect to Chester who were very good in switching the game but I was confident we’d win this once it was switched away from our heavy pitch. If you can win at Wrexham, Boreham Wood & Dagenham then Chester don’t hold too many fears. Bern & Jonno talk a good game, but yet again when it came to the crunch, Parky & Sorvs are frankly much better at their jobs than the boastful Chester duo.

We’ve now got an excellent chance in the Trophy this season, believe it’s a fully national draw so who knows who we’ll get but I feel confident. Come on Alty.

"Covid" deaths (probably substantially overstated, same as earlier in the year) barely changed since 4th November. Trafford "cases" (flawed pcr tests)well below Barking when we played there with Redbridge supporters allowed to attend. So obviously we remain in tier of hell 3. Anyone else getting fed up of this?

Great quote from the chester forum " I hate talk of bogey teams but you feel like we badly need to scrape a win against them as it's becoming a psychological thing. There was an air of inevitability about us losing today. They keep scoring these long-range belters against us as well. It's like the ghost of Clive Freeman is tormenting us! "  8) 8) 8)
