Title: Alty Family Zoomchat
Post by: Steve from Sale on October 23, 2020, 01:08:09 PM
Hi All,

As we can only communicate via this site and also via facebook, I am planning to set up a Zoom meeting for several of us to meet for a weekly catch up and chat. Aside from myself and Lawrence Looney, Allison Lewis is also interested and I would like fans to meet weekly face-to-face on Zoom, to discuss all things Alty during the lockdown. This will only take place while we are unable to meet up for games, but it would also be nice for some of our non-local fans such as JD/Harold etc, to join the group.

I would suggest we meet up say on a Sunday/Wednesday after games in particular, just to have a catch-up. I am willing to host these for 40 minutes per chat session. Some of our fans are feeling isolated and we all miss our friends from the terraces too. I use it for groups of my own friends and the chats are still very popular with us now. One of the members of our chat I have not seen or heard from in over 40 years.

So this email is just to gauge further interest. This invite also includes any players who wish to join us if they so wish. We are all part of the same family, and I am missing my club as much as everybody else is.

Feel free to discuss on here, and PM me if you are interested in joining. Open a can/bottle of beer while talking if you wish!! I intend to start a WhatsApp and Zoom meeting for us all.

Interested or any comments??

Hi all,

If any of you wish to join, can you send me a PM, I will be setting things up this afternoon, and intend to have our first zoom meeting after the match around 4pm. Once you have sorted this, I will send instructions to you all via Whatsapp on your mobile phones. If you both join there should be a total of five of us, which will be just right for us all to be able to talk face to face on laptops or mobile phones.

You will need to install Google Meet on your phones/laptops. Once done, I will give you two codes to enter, you should then see other participants, and be able to talk freely to one another. More details to follow this pm. Anyone else wish to join you are quite welcome, players, board, management, fans - whoever!!

Standby

Hi Steve, good luck with this but your messages seem a bit mixed up, so I'm just here to give you a hand.

If you're arranging a chat on Google Meet, then that isn't Zoom. Zoom is something else. Sort of like if you said I'm arranging a football match, so meet at the ice rink and be sure to have your skates.

Google Meet isn't something you have to install by the way. Harold, if you're on a computer. Just type Google Meet into Google and click on the first thing that comes up. You'll see a box that says "Enter a code or link". Steve should send you a code to type in and then you'll be good to go.

Hope you manage to get it going!

Thank you very much for the last message 'Rage against the First Team'. Much appreciated.

It is the Zoom one I am after, I was getting mixed up with the Google one I had also. You are right, that is a different one and I got confused between the two. That is why I could not find my mates last week using that one, when our laptop wasn't working!

What I do need is for you all to PM me your mobile phone numbers, so I can build them into the Alty Family WhatsApp site. I can then build them into Zoom. My wife, Carys from Chester, has just pointed out my errors so I just need your mobiles first so I can build them into this and Zoom. Carys will help me as she is more computer literate than me. We can then agree meet times and I will send the codes via WhatsApp, once I know we are all available. I am looking at 4pm Sunday, after the Alty game. Weekly, thereafter.

Not only will we have the Zoom, but can then communicate via WhatsApp - good luck all! Thanks once again Rage!

OK we are all now set up for tonight, total of five of us, a nice number with everybody getting good chance to talk about the game etc.

Message if anybody else wishes to be set up, we can have up to 9 or 10, then it becomes difficult for everybody to speak after that number.

Remember to click the video and sound icon and ensure you are off mute.

Guys and gals, thanks for a very interesting chat, Lawrence, sorry you were cut off in mid-chat, the system timed out after 40 minutes. Possibly the quickest 40 minutes we have been through. Fabulous chat, and enjoyed our little get-together very much. Once the 40 minutes arrives, it cuts out automatically very suddenly. Remember I started a minute earlier to let you into the Zoom meeting.

Very interesting and I hope the participants also enjoyed this as much as I did. HSmith, sorry you could not make it but we will have further ones, hopefully same time next week!

Any other fans, come and join us for the next one, there were four of us today.

Harold/JD will PM with next one, Allison/Lawrence, I will WhatsApp message you for next one, all at a mutually agreeable time.

Thanks to you all!

Seconded!
For me it was lovely to hear from Harold, with whom I have chatted on RR for so long.

Agreed, it was very enjoyable talking everything Alty. Lawrence is a valued member of our group too and it is good to know they are following the RR situation up with Dover. Lawrence gives us an insight into the club behind the scenes. It was lovely to see the pictures of the sponsors lounge, looks really, really good.

It is also so nice to see the likes of Harold Smith who we chatted to on Radio Robins, as well as JD - Nick and of course our new member, Paul ClementsLaments; plus we got the added bonus of meeting Heathcote the cat! Mentioned on many occasions here, and also on the old Radio Robins chat, which I still really miss.

The only disadvantage with our meetings is that they cut off after 40 minutes, we could have gone for at least another hour. If any other fans wish to join us then please PM me. I know it is unlikely, but it would be great to have a player guesting with us for just one meeting.

PM me if you wish to join us, I intend to make these weekly ongoing, until the fans are allowed back in the stadium as we value these chats as you can see. Thanks for the comments everybody.

The 40 minute cutoff is due to using the free version of Zoom. If you want longer, you'll need to pay for the full version.

Alternatively you can all leave the Zoom chat, and then re-join using the same link, for another 40 minutes of free conversation. A bit of an inconvenience but it works.

I should mention that Heathcote jumping on my lap for a fuss is nothing to do with any affection. My seat has a very comfortable furry cushion and I am between him and it!

Can I just mention to you all, thank you so much for your contributions to our zoom chat yesterday. It was highly enjoyable for all involved. I would also like to publicly thank Lawrence Looney for his contributions and explaining what the board do and how much commitment everybody willingly gives. It does show us how much they care for the club, and in particular how much time they put into the running of Altrincham FC.

This was also a record for us in that there were seven of us altogether in the chat, and the zoom meeting was the longest yet, at 1 hour 25 minutes. I even willingly missed some of the England game. This was no bad thing as they were 2-0 down when I started watching.

Thanks once again, and if anybody further wishes to join our zoom team then just send me a PM with your mobile number included.

Seconded. I find the chats most insightful, not least the perspective Lawrence  brings, and it is lovely to speak face to face with forum and exiled friends.

I thank you, Steve, for starting this up.

Really good to chat with other Alty supporters and so good of Lawrence to give up his time each week. He's given us some real insights into, for example, the way things like player recruitment have to be done and the hurdles and pitfalls that may not be obvious to the average fan. Recommended.

It would be lovely to have Phil or Neil in one of our chats, but happy just to have Lawrence who is very insightful. It does help us answer some of our fans queries from this also. Noticed JD did that with paying the injured players.

Just to reiterate, join us if you so wish to, it is very enjoyable. PM me as earlier mentioned. It helps a great deal during lockdown!

Also thanks to all our fellow members. It is nice for us all to contribute at different stages, but sometimes it is just as enjoyable to just sit back and listen. The zoom meeting works itself; but there is no way any of us will criticise the club in any way. We just provide little ideas now and then or discuss if we played whom from the start etc.

It is open to whatever we wish to discuss from Dover's treatment of RR to formations of the team or even ideas for raising funds, or how the ground development progresses, and in what order.

I don't actually agree there Steve, no-one is above criticism and the chat shouldn't be sold as a mutual appreciation society. However, the chat does give us the opportunity to have in depth discussions with balanced arguments from both the club and supporters. Constructive criticism should always be welcomed. I'd like to see more supporters join in.

Fair enough Paul, but not of us have as yet come out and openly criticised the club. All our comments are constructive and open to debating. This is where Lawrence is very handy to have in our zoomchat.

I also think we respect each others opinions too.
