Title: Live streaming of game tomorrow
Post by: Steve from Sale on September 28, 2020, 08:22:39 PM
Hi all, I assume the above is still being streamed live. I have a season ticket, can you advise if the streaming is going ahead with codes when ready so we can receive the stream.

I need to tune in and go to sleep so we can score again!

2 points:

1) For us non season ticket holders will there be somewhere for us to pay to watch live streams (and, indeed, for Tuesday's game if that is streamed)?
2) Do we get extra money from BT Sport for providing coverage (which I suspect they will be very impressed with!)?

Some answers:

Season Ticket Cards are now printed and should be distributed in the next few days - this has been a new way of doing things and therefore has taken a little longer than we expected

For non Season ticket holders, you can buy streaming at alty.ticketco.events starting with the Salford game and then before the weekend the Weymouth game too

For the Weymouth game we will also look to have this directly on our own site

We will be contacting ST holders tomorrow with their codes - ahead of them receiving the ST cards

We recognise that this perhaps seems a but rushed - but the idea of having Alty TV broadcasting live is an exciting one (although not as good as having you back in the ground would have been).  I am sure there will be more questions; we will do our best to answer them all

It is a shame we can't sing, chant, shout at this end so the players can hear it!

2) Do we get extra money from BT Sport for providing coverage (which I suspect they will be very impressed with!)?

Unfortunately not. The BT Sport coverage and the Alty TV live stream are totally separate entities. The Club are obliged to film for BT Sport to include in their Highlights show. For operational and technical reasons we will have to use separate equipment for each (BT don't care if we live stream or not). BT supply us with equipment to send the footage live to their studios where they edit it for inclusion in the Highlights show - without going into lots of technical reasons, we can't use this equipment for our live stream. The Live stream is taking up all (and more) of our resources which is why it's imperative that we get some people in over the next few days to help us manage both operations.

Anyway, I have my ticket for tonight and wish you the very best for the development and success of this service.

Are we actively promoting the stream on saturday to weymouth fans , on forums etc,  do we know (apart from notts county) whether we will be able to purchase similarly for our away games?

Just to stress that tonight is very much a technical rehearsal as far as Alty TV is concerned. A lot of preparation and hard graft has gone into this over the last few days but there are still a few unknowns which we will test for the first time tonight (e.g. linking up with the PPV platform). Will be taking baby steps to start with but have exciting plans to add to the service as we go along.

We will be working with Weymouth to make sure this is widely publicised within their fan base.  We are also looking at attracting other potential new spectators - a good problem to have.  Also, this will give a permanent opportunity for all our non UK based fans to watch Alty on live stream, even when the ground is once more packed to the rafters.  Its exciting!

And our expectation is the other clubs will be offering a similar service to away fans - but without the magic of Alty TV and Radio Robins of course

It would be a good option to keep if allowed once things  returns to normal .It doesn't appear to affect crowds in the efl and they have i follow. An option to watch it in the uk as well as internationally probably wouldn't make that much difference to a crowd figure .For example if someone say in Timperley wants to go to the game they will do so  rather than a stream for a tenner .

It's good that you have the chance to do such a live rehearsal in advance of Saturday. Sure everyone will understand if there are any teething issues tonight.

It'd be good if we could work on a reciprocal arrangement with other clubs (of a similar size) to offer ST of each club a free/stream discount.

The same goes for the operations around managing the stream, lots of work has gone into making this a success at short notice so a big thank you to everyone for your patience in waiting for the season ticket code this afternoon.

As MadFrankie says, they should all now be in your email inbox.

If you can't find the email after checking your junk please contact the club using the contact page on the website.

Nice one all.

Agreed, if tonight doesnt work to plan then no worries at all,  the ability to live stream to continue after the covid 19 is massive, very exciting

We have loads of plans to expand the service once we've proven the concept and Streaming ST is one of those.  I think this could be a massive winner for the club - I know everyone else is doing it but we really want to take this further

Great effort to get this up and running so quickly. It’s amazing how I’ve gone from relying on text messages for updates less than 20 years ago to Live streaming. I’d also be interested in a live stream season ticket.

Yes, seems to disappear after tech hitch. Will be important in 2nd half going forward.

My stream improved second half - but I watched on the laptop rather than laptop/HDMI.

Also enjoyed Alex's commentary in the 2nd half.

After the problem at the start of the second half, the clock did reappear, but looked corrupted, and then disappeared or was removed.

To get my complaints out of the way, I thought the website to book tickets, or redeem season tickets, was not user-friendly at all, and I did get some buffering in the second half, as well as the lack of vision at the start of it. However, I wasn't on a great connection, so that might be down to my end.

The commentary was good and so were the camera angles erc, which were vastly better than the Chester game. All in all, it was a good experience, but there are one or two things to work on, as you would expect from a pilot.

OK guys, very minor hiccup start of 2nd half, to be expected as new system but came back after a few minutes. Does not convert to TV sadly, but happy to watch on our laptop. The picture was very good indeed, the commentary has been superb throughout the game. Away fans may find naturally, a little biased, but they will love the picture quality Should get much interest as our reputation for filming/commentary grows and away fan awareness increases. All the commentators were superb tonight, Mark was also very quirky humoured and quite funny. They all did very well.

The team itself shows quality football played the right way, and some interesting ideas too. Highly watchable team, easy on the eye with a high standard of intricate moves. Fearsome front-line, and we have signed some great players. Hard to single anyone out as they all did their bit at some stage, but I did like Matty Kosylo and Toby. All the players signed are certainly worth a place in the squad, and I am looking forward to watching them. This streaming system more than makes up for not being able to go to the games as yet, and I am still able to use my season ticket!

Great evening and I wasn't cold, though missed my Bovril, have to buy a jar for home!!

Thanks to the club, that was all quality, appreciate you bringing it to us at short notice.

First half was annoyingly glitchy - we suspect some wifi issues between the camera dongle and streaming laptop. Second half we reduced the bitrate slightly which, as you say, made for a more stable stream but dropped the quality a bit. Looking into ways to solve this for Saturday - best that we pick these things up in 'rehearsal' though.

Streaming improved second half but the quality on a 50 inch tv did substantially drop. Stability over quality

Do you need a bigger dongle?

Tonights attendance was a very healthy 246 (households) which included 168 Season Ticket Holders.  Thank you to all of you for your patience and your very useful feedback.  There are a few issues we need to sort out with the ticket ordering system but we hope to be in much better shape for Weymouth on Saturday.

It will be very interesting to see how many we can pull in for that game.

The media team have shown once again that they are a massive contributor to the forward progress of this club.  We trialed the live broadcast earlier in the year with the Live Replay matches - Blyth, Chorley, Guiseley; so we knew our technology would hold up.  Tonight we have shown we can connect Alty TV and Radio Robins to a streaming service and that we can collect money for this.  Both really important forward steps.  Now we can begin to improve the match day experience.  Not as good as being there, I know.  Hopefully we will be all back together in the not too distant future

3 questions.

Is Saturday's game now definite? And I'm thinking of the efforts to secure funding from the pl/government plus the nl's previous position on starting the season.

Will Wrexham (and other clubs for that matter) be able to start the season with what is happening there?

I missed the match but will there be any way for me as a season ticket holder to watch it back at a later date? The link said something about the event having expired I think.

Hi Alty TV - can you confirm that the games will be available to watch as a replay? I'm too knackered to stay up until 2am to watch the live game, but I'd happily watch a full replay when I wake up on Sunday morning.

Is the live streaming compatible with an Ipad, or does it have to be a laptop? I know sometimes these things don't work on Apple products for some reason.

Does the light quaility affect a digital camera much these days? If there's less light does the electronic "shutter" (if there is one) have to stay open longer to get enough light in per frame making a less smooth picture?  Just wondering if the lighting at Moss Lane needs improving if streaming is going to be the way forward.

And Hugh's similar question. I'm not sure whether TicketCo offer this service, perhaps Guru or Andrew could answer?

Will we be getting the usual highlights ? Apart from the fourth goal that we all missed, I would appreciate seeing them slightly enlarged and without a quarter of the screen obscured by the streaming company's banner. This is an important issue for those of use who can only watch on a phone !

Well, you've hit a nerve here! Short answer - yes it definitely does. Our main camera has a fixed lens but even so night matches are filmed with the aperture wide open. On a digital camcorder such as ours rather than changing ISO you can adjust the frame rate but the lower the frame rate the more motion-blur occurs so it's quite a fine balancing act. We can also adjust the camera's gain (similar to ISO) but with higher gain you get a more grainy look. Our floodlights conform with league standards but, if I'm honest, the camera does struggle especially with the light on the Main Stand side of the ground.

Are these our banners (score and 'Alty TV Live')? We can adjust these. I wasn't aware that the TicketCo logo was on screen - can someone post a screenshot if that's the case? As for highlights, I'll put the goals up but not intending to do full highlights for the friendly.

I didn't see a single TicketCo advert in the screen. But if he could help bring down the club costs I wouldn't object to subtle in-play adverts when there's a break in play or HT/FT.

We could always charge more for home Radio Robin sponsors as more will watch the stream and listen Vs last season.

Goals would be good Mark. Well done on last night.

I didn't see a TicketCo logo watching on an iPhone. Perhaps it depends on the device/OS being used.

It's not the only one.

Maybe when Macc are selling off the family silver we could buy their floodlights.

If you are watching on a tv with internet browser the logo is present unless you maximise the screen bottom right.
My thoughts are:-
I was really pleased with the portal to see the game, at half time i changed devices and this was seamless.
The picture was good with odd pauses etc, felt like there was only just enough bandwidth at the game so did buffer a little
Sound was good and commentary worked with the pictures
I was disappointed that the chromecast bid doesnt work (the companys fault), it had been my preference to stream from my phone to a large TV.  What happens is that the company logo and a blank screen only is cast not the game that sits within, its an issue with the streaming provider, as i said earlier other ways to do it.
I'd be interested to know those with proper android tv's or apple tvs found it?

Thanks for the response, much appreciated. I know everyone is working really hard to make this work. You'll get there I am sure.

Watching on my laptop there is a little sign at the bottom right of the screen to go full screen if that helps.

Apple TV had a dark stripe covering a third of the screen throughout the broadcast. No such problem on the iPad. The quality was as stated above, pretty good, but with a few pauses.

I'm probably missing something very obvious, but I can't see how to buy a ticket for the stream of the Weymouth game. On the official club website I can find a link to buy tickets for the friendly against Salford, but nothing for Weymouth. Can anyone help?

Also, is it possible to watch the game on demand after the final whistle? I live in Australia so I'd prefer to watch it on Sunday morning which will be around 10pm Saturday night in the UK.

Agreed. It also makes practical sense to not put the details out too far in advance in case of games being postponed for any reason.
