Hope the substantial development mentioned for the next close season includes seats on the popular side for us old crocks who are finding it hard to stand for the whole game and find the lack of leg room in the main stand hard to live with too!

Note to the architects : more leg room in any new seating area! 😉

Blimey Saughall Robin, I am struggling to stand for the whole game too, after 46 years being a Golf Roader. That would certainly help me too.

That said, I am having a hip injection in September now, which may ease things a little. Not getting any younger are we?!!

My knees are shot and my feet hurt like chuff after ninety minutes. I hope to put off my retirement to the seats for just one more year.

Hells bells - I can hear all the joints creaking and groaning from here!

Had two injections and they only worked for a few months. Good while it lasted 😂😂
Seats with leg room, preferably near the bar would be fantastic!

Lovely picture.
I notice  the 24ft goal mouth warm up net and a smelly grass skip are missing🤔.

I did well with the first injection, that one lasted 10 months, which surprised the staff at Wythenshawe Hospital.

They therefore elected to give me another, with a view to me eventually having a hip replacement. People may have noticed at the ground that I always walk with a limp and that is why. However, the club's barriers help me immensely and are one of the reasons why I have been able to delay seating. I find the main stand very cramped for my legs, and my knees are not at their best. But our barriers and just the right height and have a convenient flat surface to rest drinks/snacks upon. I don't like other grounds barriers, unlike ours. Our ground has always been carefully thought out, and I love the place, as well as the club.

But me, I'm getting older now and will need to move to seats in the not too distant future. Nice thread this one.

See you in the pop side stand (in the extra leg room seats) in 2021/2 season Steve! 😉 😂🤣😂🤣

Be good to run a Christmas Market during December in there. Mulled wine, craft beers, bratwurst stand out the kitchen.

In the meantime, I hope there will be some decent music pre-match, maybe some occasional accoustic acts and hopefully Sky Sports.

It’s flat ground in front of an exit gate and some old turnstiles. I would be surprised if it’s even included in our official capacity myself.

Did you know the reason for the higher roof in the centre section of the pop side was to allow for a seating section to be built there if required? In the end it turned out handy for the broadcasting gantry.

I did. But how great would it be for the whole pop side roof to be the same?
The gantry isn't so bad without scaffolding and we'd get an even better view seated (with more leg room!)) 😉

How we going to berate Macclesfield  fans if its not terracing??

Don't worry about it. We won't get the chance anyway. We'll probably be due to play them over Christmas and new year and they'll have gone bump by then. 🎄😉

I'd have loved something like the Northwich Dane Bank down that side.

That would be perfect. But with seats at the back, up a few steps and terracing along the front for the singers! 😉

Not exactly. It was always going to be a gantry but the new terrace below it was not added due to lack of funds. Was to be standing but cojld be seating too. The whole side to be done one day funds permitting🙃🤑

When was this planned Pukka? More of our curiosity than anything

Always wondered why the middle section of the pop extended so far back!

I always thought it was to accommodate the "David Birch Roaming and Berating" part of the ground...

In 1996. It was the start of a large stand (to go full length) which would be equivalent to Dane bank one (but several years earlier) to give us 10,000 ground capacity to meet EFL req'ts.
The steeper terracing was designed but not built as no money. The height allowed a TV gantry to be added. With steeper terrace access to rear of gantry would have been easy.
Its been sat there ever since but we never had either the need for more capacity or the money to do it,.. yet ! Could still be used, that's called long term planning  ;)

It will be interesting to see if the pop side is just seats or a mixture of seats and standing area when it gets done

Ideally, I think it should be seating at the back, raised slightly and standing at the front. If that's impractical or too pricey, then the third nearest the away end should be standing, for the travelling Golf Roaders, with the rest seating.

Really hope that's the case. Just rinse and repeat FC United's main stand.

Yes, agreed. Allowed standing at the front with seats behind would be perfect.

If this gets done can someone make sure that the sign on the back of the popular stand that tells drivers to go one way  (and pointing to the chequers end) gets taken down? 😃

Logically, sightlinewise, sitting down should be in front of standing up. But never is.
Just a different perspective...

I would favour a Stalybridge style seats in the middle section myself. I feel it would better represent how the stand is actually used. It would also mirror how the main stand side used to be (apart from no grass bank!. People could still go and stand in that corner for segregated games, or wander into a standing area from the fan zone

Only place I've seen standing behind seats is at Macclesfield.

Yep, plus it's steep enough to allow for concourse facilities underneath and wide enough to allow for commercial facilities at the top. It's a great stand.
