Title: Pitch
Post by: John Edwards on February 23, 2020, 09:35:31 PM
There is a message from the board about Saturday's postponement and plans to eradicate drainage problems on the club's website now.

Good to have some clarity about all this. As many have said already there's no quick and easy fix.

Thank you Bill. Updates are always appreciated.

I would suggest it is priority in the summer as I think this rain is becoming a northern climate season.

Also that corner with the pop up Libero bar has huge potential so maybe any underground drainage work needs doing before we can improve/tidy up that corner.

Finance (and of course the rain) are the biggest factor in sorting out this major problem..
Would it not be a good idea to speak to MUFC (as they also use the pitch) if they could help financially... or has this path already been investigated?

Pretty sure MUFC came down recently and assisted with the pitch and also advice.

We know the board want to sort the drainage out, its finding the best workable solution for best value which is key. Overall the pitch is in much better condition than previous seasons, but lately were experiencing more rain, hence the flood alerts on the River Bollin this morning. Real issue.

Yes DT, see Shrewsbury is flooding. I hope you are safe and well? Water most places.

Really bad in town centre which sits in an oxbow.  Most roads in and out of town and surrounding area now impassable to some degree even main routes.. I  live in Bayston Hill about 3 miles away. If it floods here then the world will cease to be as we know it ....
Thanks for asking though..

Nice to look at but I would never live near a water source..

I would never buy a property built on a flood plane. Lots do these days but just a recipe for disaster IMO. SBL

They could have listened to this expert. Oh well, never mind.

Now appears that Boston's new ground is in a vulnerable area according to experts.

Yes, the pitch is already waterlogged  http://livejobcam.com/above/ (http://livejobcam.com/above/)

Forecast is OK and I am guessing the pitch has or is drying out.

Does show 40% chance of rain Friday afternoon so surely Friday lunchtime to Sat morning would be a good time to use the covers?

Would surely give that guarantee and they wouldn't be on long enough to damage the grass.

Good shout Ollie, incidentally, the pitch as being used on Monday night for something, maybe a game/training. Anyone shed any light?

Academy trials took place on Monday evening.  My lad took part and in my honest opinion there was some good potential talent on display.  The pitch seemed fine although my son did remark that it was a little soft under foot Golf Road/Popular Side corner.

The weather's actually looking quite bright on Friday now - with a bit of rain Saturday morning - can't imagine the covers are needed, it should be drying out nicely.

Looks like there's going to be a fair bit of wind during the game itself though.

Possibly due to drinking to much beer or a Friday night curry ha! SBL
