Title: Curzon Match thread part 1
Post by: Alty Dave on December 24, 2019, 09:18:52 AM
Think barring injuries it will be a similar starting 11 to Saturday gone, like others would bring wall in for walker.

Merry Christmas to all Alty fans and hopefully good following to get behind the lads on Thursday.

We need a win. Curzon's form has improved but we should still be favourites.

We could, we should....unless we tighten up on those set pieces we possibly won't.

Really overdue a win, how we have got to Boxing Day and not won an away league game? Curzon have won quite a few at home though this season so won’t be easy. Attendance wise I’m plumping for 700 with us having exactly half of that number. What’s the set up like, do they have a good bar? Will be my first visit.

Portacabin so small but tidy, cheap and cheerful. Drinking allowed outside.

Curzon 1-1 Alty

Att: 714

Their last three home gates average under 250, so unless we take 400 I can't see it attracting much over 500.

£14 to get in and watch the worst team I've seen, no wonder no one goes.

If we'd have scored 6 it would have flattered them. Some decent approach play but shocking finishing.  Johnson didn't go on the right til 65 mins and came off after 75mins! Bizarre.

I know Peers scored, and has scored in previous games, but his overall performance was poor. He's one of the most frustrating players I've ever seen. I'd much rather have Wall on the left and Johnson on the right.

Hancock needs a shooting practice session, not seen him hit the target in the last 2 games I've seen

Good to finally win an away fixture, Southport will a different test altogether

They were bobbins.

I was tempted to say that Curzon were mediocre, but actually they were absolute dogsh*t. I might exclude the keeper and the number 6 from that, but otherwise they were the worst team we've played this season.

There was seldom any danger of not keeping a clean sheet, but we should have been at least 4 up by half time, and should have doubled that at the end. Our finishing was appalling at times. It was ironic that our poorest player, having replicated his infamous finish at Blyth last season, should eventually scramble the winner.

We'll need to step up considerably on Saturday.

Was Richman unavailable or bomded?

Agree with all of the above. We need to be more clinical. I found myself laughing at some of our efforts which on reflection wasn't funny at all.  I would also like Max to play the game instead of the referee. That way he might get to start a game.

My patience is wearing thin with Max.

They were utterly woeful, not a Conference standard team on that evidence. If we’d repeated the 6-0 from last season it genuinely would not have flattered us. Saying all that our finishing was really poor, high and wide or straight down their keepers throat, how we ultimately only scraped a 1-0 doesn’t reflect well on us.

BUT, they’d won quite a few at home recently and we kept a clean sheet, completely dominated the game and have our first away league win of the season so it’s all positive.

Not sure what the attendance was but we definitely had the majority, ground decent enough if somewhat soulless and for a new build ground the bar being a portakabin is not great. If we are going to that neck of the woods then Stalybridge or Hyde feel a lot more proper to me.

602 gate, we must have had 350+.

Full Time Robins has 380 Alty there.

How good was that pitch? Considering they have had the same weather as us yet played a lot more games on it I'd say excellent. If we are going to progress one of the things that needs being done is sort out the drainage bogey once and for all.

I think Max Harrop is one of those players who needs games - 10-15 minutes here and there isn't keeping him match fit. For all his idiosyncrasies, he is a very skillful player and a decent goal threat from midfield. PP seems to favour Williams who is solid but drives us sideways as much as forward.

Williams doesn't create any danger. Sure he can keep the ball and pass it to someone who might, but I want to see him carve open a space and get some decent shots in. When James Poole got the ball in the same positions you got the feeling a goal might be scored any moment.

Agreed that Max is a bit of a loose cannon and Williams is more organised and reliable. I'm not saying Max is the answer but I do think we don't have the same cutting edge with Willo in the team, running the game or not. I assume he's working to instruction as he has a good shot on him and his goal rate before he rejoined us was pretty good, albeit at a lower level.

Williams is having a very good season.

You should be OK at this level if Hulme, JJ, Hancock and another ( Ceesay, Peers, Walker etc )are all on their games.

With Moult so deep you sort of need a warrior type player like Willo. Very hard to find a warrior and creative midfielder at this level.

If Max was more disciplined in his play, temper and positioning and released the ball at the right time then he would be that all round mid but he isn't and our record with him starting isn't great.

Main problem at present is poor finishing, the sooner Josh starts hitting the target again we will fly up the table.

This, in a nutshell, is it.
