Title: Farsley Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on August 29, 2019, 11:38:31 AM
Massive game for us.

Biggest concern for me is how Jones plays without Hannigan next to him.

Hoping against hope that Hancock is fit but doesn't sound likely.

Alty 1-0 Farsley

After beating Farsley in this exact same fixture 6-0 a couple of seasons ago at a similar stage, we went unbeaten for the remainder of the year (over 3 months and 16 games).

Here's hoping for the same.

Wynne to get motm

Absolutely no doubt about it!

My thoughts are that Wynne is a young keeper with a future, given the right coaching and exposure

I said on a recent thread (and received two Peakes for my cheek) that I felt we should have kept him.......I guess we could not afford three keepers and Phil had a tough choice between TT and EW

Farsley's form has been quite decent so far - a scoreless draw at York,  and a 3-0 win at Gateshead are the sort of results we'd be proud of. They'll be looking to bounce back after losing out at home to form horses King's Lynn. So not an easy fixture by any means, A lot will depend on how strong a side we have available.

Top attacking team. Gutted I am not there today. Confident.

Much the better team for the first 80 mins. Big let off when their 9 missed a free header but after that they offers nothing until they got the consolation.

Thought Malarkey and Hemmings looked really comfortable. Johnston and White frustrated the devil out of me,  but wouldn't swap them for anything. Ceesay is a touch of class but my mom was Williams.

A win at scouseport and things would look delightful

Hemmings played really well as a no.10. Don't know why he didn't take the penalty. Branson and Peers did very little when they came on.

Farsley are relegation fodder, no doubt whatsoever about that. Was genuinely shocked when I came out of the bog to find they'd scored! It was my first game of the season and I was shocked to find how tight our passing was in the first half. Neither of our full backs played well and I concur with all those who have bemoaned the lack of Jake and Josh in midfield. Make no mistake about it, though Jordan helped himself to a couple of goals, we are very heavily reliant on our 2 loan forwards. Yussif in particular was outstanding and gave their poor right back a torrid time all afternoon. There were signs (particularly following our 2nd goal) that we returning to something like what we've grown used to for 2 seasons so that's definitely something. We need a big away win to be honest and Tuesday at out of form Southport represents a half decent opportunity. I'll be there anyway. Come on you reds!

'Relegation fodder'! They were better than Darlington and no one is worse than Blythe and BPA

I don't remember TT making a save at all. Farsley worked hard and have got some points early doors but they are completely toothless and I would be shocked if they stayed up. It was the perfect game for us.

I actually thought they were better as a unit than Boston, the difference was the way we played today. Hemmings worked well in the hole behind Hulme, who was back to his best, Jones and Mullarkey looked a decent pairing, and Williams ran the midfield well.

The star for me was Ceesay. He's improved over the summer, particularly in terms of his positional play. He played their offside trap very cleverly, his part in the third goal should not be underestimated, and he ran them ragged - his change of pace is electrifying.

Sorry, but once Branson came on he slowed the game down too often. I'm not saying there isn't a decent footballer in there, but his style of play simply doesn't suit ours.

Pleased with the win as we all are. Thought we showed more intent today with Ceesay and Hemmings doing well.

Once Ringo came off we allowed them to boss the midfield , as Branson did little. Peers showed little either.

Pleased Jord got a couple.

Need to sort out whom is the penalty taker, that could have cost us.

What happened to the announcer halfway through the second half? Did she run out of throat pastilles?

I thought we defended well and looked organised in that area today. We didn't really let them have opportunities till later on, generally after Branson came on when we lost cohesion. I thought Jake might have come on at 3-0. JJ and Ceesay were a constant wing outlet for us though JJ's final ball is inconsistent at best. White got forward better today too though Connor Hampson seems a bit off the pace to me this season. Thought Hemmings played well and all 3 goals were well taken. I've always liked Tom Peers and he has a good goalscoring record but we're not using him to his strengths out wide - he showed his speed and strength on one run down the middle and that's where I think he is best used but I guess that's not going to happen when Jordan is in the team.
