An eccentric, but always a gentleman. RIP Steve.

Gutted to hear this news today, First got to know Steve when him and Skipper asked me could they become Stewards?
I thought they were taking the piss but they soon gladly proved me wrong ad we became great mates over the years.
RIP Mate
-
What sad news. Steve was always one of the real characters at the club and will be greatly missed. RIP.

I have known Steve from my school days at Sale West, though he was a couple of years above my year. A great friendly character, I spent much time with him as a fellow steward for many years, especially in no man's land between the home/away sections - sterile area as it was known to us. Also with him many times at club do's and on the away supporters coach. He was one of the stewards I was closest to. He came to my 50th birthday party with Skipper, and was one of the last to leave. A lovely big-hearted fellow who had kind words for everybody and a lovely man to know. Also very well liked by fellow stewards.
One of the reasons why our club was perceived by away fans as a nice ground to visit and very welcoming. A great lad I have known for many years and I am absolutely gutted by the news.
My condolences go to his family and also his other friends also, as sad loss for the club. Rest in peace Steve and thanks for your friendship and a friendly hello every time we met.

More very sad news. My condolences go to his family and friends.

Truly awful news. I don't use the supporters coach that often but chatted with Steve many times and found him a lovely character. Really saddened by this. He'll be greatly missed.
-
Awful news......got to know Steve from chatting in the NWS after games....always an optimist and never had a bad word about anyone. He loved the club.
My wife got to know him when she used to visit the Brickies on Tuesdays for lunch with her late mother.....Steve was often in there on his break and always came over for a chat
Another club stalwart has left us
-
Often exchanged brief words with Steve over the years without ever knowing his name. Always cheerful, always happy to talk. Thoroughly nice bloke. Sorry he won't be around anymore.

Would be grateful if when known, the club can advise of his funeral details, I would very much like to attend to pay my respects.
-
Very sad news, such a lovely guy always had a smile on his face. RIP Steve.

I was asked on Saturday if I had any details of Steve's funeral, I have tried several lines of enquiry
but found no details got to presume as he only had a older Sister they have had a private affair so
have to respect them. Its a shame we couldn't have given him a good send off.
After this Saturdays match was thinking of having a drink in his memory in the Mrs Station pub about 6pm
Nothing special just a drink and a toast in the memory of our Steve.
Would anybody be interested in joining me or have any other idea's
-
I am free after the game, though not been to this pub before, is it the one opposite the town clock?
