Title: Brackley - Match thread
Post by: oneedham on March 13, 2019, 09:44:01 AM
Maybe Sass-Davies in for Jones? I rate Jones highly but not quite been himself second half of the season.

Hoping Ceesay recovers, really enjoy watching him play and he has defo been a big positive in our recent good form.

Very hard not to start the covers debate again, but being one of the contributors and the forecast giving rain up to and into Saturday then I am hoping they are used Friday night.........

Looking at the weather from now until Saturday Andrew, I think most satchel swingers  would have your prediction priced up at odds on fella.

Sass-Davis in for Jones, harsh but football is.

Ceesay would be a massive loss. I'd play Hulme as a winger and Piggott up top if no Ceesay.

Probably will be postponed.

Forecast here is for only light rain until Saturday, but heavy on matchday. How long does it take to get the covers off if we use them ?

If we DO play, it won't be an easy game, but I think we can beat them - after all, we did at their place.

Alty 5/4
Draw 5/2
Brackley 13/8

Will have to be at our best but it’ll send out quite a message if we can do the double over Brackley

Presumably there will be an inspection Saturday morning, early enough to stop Brackley travelling needlessly - I would guess before 10am? The forecast for daytime Saturday looks dire to say the least.

I would certainly hope for and expect an early inspection. A problem could be that, if the forecast is right, the really heavy rain only starts on Saturday morning, so it could get worse after an early inspection, despite all the efforts of the groundstaff.

I'm sure the weather for noon and beyond will be factored in by whoever carries out the pitch inspection

Will volunteers be needed to remove the pitch covers before the inspection?

Don't the covers have to come off early to let the pitch breathe?

I think they will need a roof over the pitch to give us any chance of seeing a football match at Moss Lane tomorrow.

In all honesty, I don't expect I will be leaving Shropshire tomorrow.

I was at the ground earlier this afternoon and the pitch looks in good condition but with no covers on. With non stop heavy rain forecast from 3am onwards I don’t fancy our chances of playing unless there are plans to put the covers on this evening.

I think they may have looked at the forecast and thought their is no point in covering the pitch as it won't cope with the constant deluge forecast for tomorrow from mid morning onwards.

It means another Tues fixture which isn't ideal.

More of a problem for them than us I'd suggest.

Thanks Ray spot on.
I could elaborate more, but got an early start tomorrow.

It might be worth pointing out that the covers can only cover the most vulnerable areas, they aren't big enough to cover the whole pitch. If they are down then I wouldn't see any point in taking them off before the inspection as there'll be the whole of the rest of the pitch to inspect, and that may well be waterlogged. If the game is called off it won't be the fault of the covers, the referee, the chairman or the ground staff, but the weather.

I don’t fancy another day like Witton at home last year. We play much better on a good surface.

Looking at the fixture lists, April 2nd is the only viable date. We're at Telford on the 9th, they won't want the 16th as they're playing on Good Friday, and both sides play on Easter Monday - then the season finishes.

The reserves have a game scheduled at Moss Lane on Tuesday & I suspect the turnaround would be too quick in any case.
Incidentally, games OFF today so far at Alfreton, Blyth, Darlington, Guiseley as well as ours. Only Boston v Chorley, FCUM v York, Kiddy v Spennymoor & Leamington v Southport still on at this stage & at least one of those could well go - Moston will be pretty wet if the deluge here, about 4 miles away, is anything to go by!

Indeed - but the weather looks unlikely to improve before then.

FCUM v York called off around 1.30pm. Still belting down north of Manchester!

Bet York will be well peed off and justifiably IMO.  Someone made the wrong decision. SBL
