Title: Curzon Match thread
Post by: Alty Dave on February 21, 2019, 02:13:56 PM
Can't make this away game, but its clear we need to try and get a win... Wont be easy. Siimilar lineup to the other day, but I would bring Ringo in, and Max. Possibly put Josh up top, if fit.

Same formation, same starting 11 as  Tuesday with the exception of Richman in for Williams, same result.

Curzon not as good as Spennymoor so we might get away with a draw.
Would play Hancock at 9.

Highly doubtful

Thompson was very lucky not to give them a goal at the start of the second half to make it 2-1! He was the only bad performer on the pitch for me, can’t think why Drench was dropped or was it just a rotational thing

Tremendous result, well done all.
Good to hear lads getting their first goals for Alty. Sounded on RR that we scored some crackers today.
Should give us a great confidence boost for the next games.

Come on Alty!

Great to see piggot get a hat trick for all his hard work in the last few games.
The confidence came back and our passing game was sublime.
Another clean sheet for thommo...

Wow....how good was that....
After a few weeks of at best mediocre performances, we produce our best result (and performance of the season), we were absolutely brilliant.
The only shame is, it could easily have been 10, Ceesay had two chances that we will never know how he didn't score and Joe Piggot had another good chance.
Great performances throughout the team, just to pick a couple JJ was unbelievable, he ran and ran and caused havoc down the wing and Dens was fantastic when he came on, his crossing is what we have been missing from our full backs over the last few weeks.
Credit to the manager, he changed the team after the performance against Bradford, brought back Williams, who I think has made a difference, we did play well in the first half against Spennymoor and carried on today.
The best moment of the match was when Simon Richman came on and thought it was our kick off after we had just scored.
Well done boys.....'feed the pig'

I think we should rest Hampson and let his hand fully recover. I agree, we miss Dens forward play and crosses.

I hadn't seen either the goalkeeping change or today's result coming, but, I suggest, the result shows just how good we can be on our day. My Stockport supporting friend at work says that we are the best team he has seen this season, but that was for part of a game.

The ability is clearly there, we just need to achieve more consistency.

Great result.
Need to kick on now
Well done lads.
Great to see the young lads get on the scoresheet, great for their confidence.

Was Drench injured or dropped.

Was Drench injured or dropped.

Watching him at half time, he was restricting himself to bending and stretching. He may be carrying an injury.

I was surprised to read that this was Sean Williams's first goal in a competitive game for Altrincham. Would have been an even better second if his Paul Scholesian volley from JJ's corner had gone in.

It's a remarkable statistic for a man who was Warrington's top goalscorer last season.

His only other goal was in his first ever appearance for Alty in our 1st pre-season game in July 2014.

Sat. 5.7.14   3pm   A   Abbey Hey   6-1   S.Williams 26, Reeves 34,39,69,77, Perry 55

He had, of course, scored twice AGAINST us the previous season for Colwyn Bay.

Didn't think we'd get anything out this game, then I saw Ryan Brooke playing CDM and it all my thoughts changed. Don't know if plays there regularly but really.

Our wingers ruined both full backs all afternoon, Hancock was back to his best and that was Williams best game all season. Only negatives were a couple of Thompson and Jones  passes.

Well done to everyone.

Big decision on Saturday is who is the lone striker.

It would be very harsh on Piggott if he doesn't start.

Great result, can't comment on game as was not there. But really pleased for everyone. Now a cushion building in 7th to 8th. lets see if we can push on.

Great that Piggott has given Jordan and Phil something to think about. If both fit will be an interesting choice by Phil.

Unlike a number of recent games FCUM and BPA included, Curzon allowed us to have possession quite deep, so Sean Williams was very prominent all afternoon. This was in direct contrast to the home game - if John Flanagan was still the manager I doubt they would've set up that way. Yesterday proved that if any opposition stand off us we'll beat them. That's why even the best teams don't.

After the second goal you could see the confidence flowing through the side - JJ was back to his best and Ceesay looks a real talent. If PP and NS can get a level of performance anywhere near yesterday for the rest of the season there are plenty of  reasons to be optimistic for the weeks ahead.

Incredible win by any stretch and PP, NS & the players rightly deserve all the praise today.

Chester on a poor run and the natives restless there, completing the double over them next Saturday would go a long way towards firming us up in the play offs for me. Hoping as well JH comes back with the bit between his teeth and ready to make up for his self-inflicted absences.

Great win yesterday, next few games give us an oppurtunity to gather a bit of form heading into tough fixtures against Brackley and Telford and it looks like Poole is coming near to a return and of course Hulme is back so our options are alot broader in attack.

Lets get behind them, Up the reds

The Telford game will need to be rearranged as they are playing in the FA Trophy Semi-Final 2nd Leg on March 23rd.

Thank goodness that Leyton Orient turned things around against Brackley yesterday, otherwise our game against Brackley on March 16th would have had to have been rearranged as well, as that is the date for the FA Trophy Semi-Final 1st Leg, which would have meant no game for us from March 9th-30th!

Far too easy. Great result though.

TT continues to flap at balls. I hope Drench's minor injury clears up for Saturday.

You are right it looked easy, but Curzon beat us at home and were on a good run of form before this match, so lets not take anything away from a great win.

I have to admit I lost the faith before Sauturday, but now think it should be an exciting run in.

It was one of the worst goalkeeping performances I think I’ve ever seen from an opposition player. Dreadful.

When I’d waded through the 5000 advert breaks, my god, some of the goalkeeping from Curzon (for the 5th and 6th especially) this forum would have a full on meltdown if that was the other way round. Woeful. Also, how many did the Robins bring? Looked like the whole crowd was cheering our goals.

At the very least 300.

Some shocking goalkeeping on show there from both keepers, especially the 6th goal! Some good strikes too though.

And then their keeper made two top drawer saves to make up...

You can only beat what you've got in front of you....maybe we made too much of poor displays V BPA and Spenymoor ignoring the opposition quality so lets celebrate an absolute thumping of a team who up to half time looked half decent..

I'd like to congratulate Oneedham for managing to pull a negative out of a very positive day....incredible stuff.
