I’ll help you along Flynny...I’m a little surprised at this. I understand the need for players to get game time if they are not being picked...but by doing this are we saying that TT is untouchable? Let’s be honest, he makes his fair share of mistakes ...that fresh air kick was laughable...and as One Needham said on a different thread Elliot was dropped unceremoniously after a couple of mistakes at Kiddy. By the same token, then TT should have been dropped on numerous occasions. I have supported Tony in the past, but that is wearing thin. Compare him to the Stockport keeper (as an example) ...no contest.

I feel a little sorry for Elliot, albeit he has youth on his side and keepers tend to mature and improve later in their careers.

Bizzare.

Tried to sign him last season, sign him this season on non-contract, alternates with Thompson as to who plays,  both parties come to a mutually agreeable deal and he signs a contract, gets bomded and then loaned out.

Don't quite get it, especially without another keeper.

Salted popcorn or that sweet stuff?

Well, it's a big show of faith for TT and Phil is employed to make these sorts of calls. I hope it works out, but I'm not convinced it will.

Jesus he has made fewer mistakes than Thompson. I am hoping this is to make space for a capable keeper to come in.
Such an important position to get right.

Reading the entire article reads as if we are sticking with TT. The lad has more lives than a cat.
Needs to lose some of his bulk to claim crosses and get off his line quicker.
Not impressed.

The biggest error PP has made in his Alty career so far in my considered opinion.

FFS. not being an alarmist but by keep picking TT could cost us a playoff place
Hope I'm wrong.
Why the f**k we never signed another keeper in the close season is beyond me.

Whilst I agree that TT has made his mistakes; he has also saved us on many occasions. He had quite a good game today V Boston and made some good saves and has kept the score down. Whilst there are some aspects of his game he needs to make improvements to, he has played a part in keeping goals conceded down too. He needs a couple of clean sheets, but sometimes our defence needs to take some responsibility as TT is not always completely at fault.

I do trust Phil/Neil to make the correct calls; the main point today is that we are back to winning ways again.

if you think Tony Thompson makes mistakes wait 'til you see the highlights of the Stockport v BPA game I went to today ....

Nobody wants to see TT make mistakes, because he is our keeper and more often than not he does come up with the goods. However, he has made enough mistakes recently for fans to reasonably suggest somebody else gets a chance in goal, if for no other reason than to give the guy a bit of breathing space. If he played well today, then great, good call Phil, but nobody should be undroppable (especially if we have play off aspirations).

Thompson had a good game today. He still needs a sequence of them though.

He was tidy enough between the sticks yesterday, despite some erratic kicking. But he’ll have busier afternoons. Boston looked a very poor side. Little wonder the locals are starting to get restless.

I honestly don't think there is much to choose between Elliot and TT
In the absence of a commanding top level keeper I'd stick with TT....I get sick of some of the comments he gets....he makes some really good saves and for every air kick he sets up numerous attacks with some excellent distribution....how many times does jake moult try to do a glenn hoddle 50 yard pass that gets intercepted on 20 yards or flys over JJs head into touch?
TT clearly loves Alty, is part of the team spirit and deserves a bit more respect for the part he played in our promotion.
The same people who slated the legend stuart Coburn for being past it (before stuart had an excellent indian summer of his career) are blaming TT for every goal....
Most goals we concede are down to poor defending at corners (especially corners we have in the opposition box!) not challenging runners with the ball or a bad pass from an outfield player....

What is strange and a bit dangerous is not having a keeper on the bench.

Well said.

Post Coburn, pre Thompson we had some awful goalies. There's a big game coming up next week. We need a defence that knows each other. Swapping Thompson out would have been an extra complication. I'm happy that Wynne is getting the opportunity to stay sharp at Trafford rather than warming the bench. Presumably we could recall him if Thompson was to get injured

Yes, as stated in the original story on the club's website, Elliot can be recalled at any time.
