Title: When did we last lose four times against the same team in one season?

A trivia question there for the likes of such Alty savants as roytonmike and Management Guru etc.

My guess would be that it could possibly have transpired against, say, Macc, Vics or Runcorn during the North West Floodlit League era or even those days when the Cheshire Senior Cup semi-final comprised home and away legs.

And have we ever previously failed to score against the same club on four separate occasions during a season?

My best offer on the first of Cult's queries is 1969-70 v Macc
Northern Premier League (h) 2-4 (a) 1-1
North-West Floodlit League (h) 1-2 (a) 1-3
FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round (a) 0-3
Northern Premier League Cup Final (h) 1-1 (a) 2-1
The gate for the last of those games was 6,833!
Overall record v Macc 1969-70 p.7 w.1 d.2 l.4 f.8 a.15

And in an amazing co-incidence the 2-4 home league defeat was the very last time we had a bigger league crowd than New Years Day!

Or is it? My records say 3006, and in any event anyone who believes that the crowd v Barnet in 1991 was 3000 is in a fool's paradise. I've seen figures of 4371 and 4501 quoted for that game & we certainly 'hid' 1000 in the Boston gate figure for the last game of that season. As the official ground capacity was 3000 that was of course the figure given out on the day!

Further to Cult's second query - try this:
1925-6 v Witton Albion
CCL (h) 0-3 (a) 0-2
FAC prelim round (h) 0-0 (a) 0-4
I've trawled the obvious candidates - Macc, Vics, Staly, Winsford as well as Witton, & that's the best I can do! (I don't have easily accessible detailed records v Runcorn!)

How on earth could I ever have forgotten those years of nightmarish results at the hands of Gateshead?

The aforementioned four games were part of a harrowing sequence of nine consecutive defeats against them:  


(i) 28th December 1991: Gateshead 4  Alty 0 (GMVC)

(ii) 25th August 1992: Alty 0  Gateshead 1 (GMVC)

(iii) 16th September 1992: Gateshead 2  Alty 0 (GMVC)

(iv) 7th September 1993: Alty 1  Gateshead 3 (Bob Lord Trophy 1st Round 1st Leg)

(v) 22nd September 1993: Gateshead 3  Alty 1 (Bob Lord Trophy 1st Round 2nd Leg)

(vi) 27th November 1993: Alty 0  Gateshead 3 (GMVC)

(vii) 2nd February 1994: Gateshead 2  Alty 1 (GMVC)

(viii) 6th September 1994: Alty 1  Gateshead 3 (GMVC)

(ix) 7th December 1994: Gateshead 1  Alty 0 (GMVC)
