Title: Stockport (FAT) Match Thread
Post by: Sarf London Alty on December 12, 2018, 10:07:56 AM
Alty 5/6

Stockport 13/5

Hopefully we can put a marker down ahead of two big games over Christmas and it doesn’t rain too much in the next few days too. Attendance guesstimate around 1200-1300.

Impressive win for stockport last night. Let’s hope they are a bit battle weary on Saturday. It would be good get off to a flyer in the Christmas triology. The trophy is always there for the winning for decent conference north outfit as Brackley showed again last year

They're the most erracit team ever. Win 1, lose 1, draw 1.

They're therefore due a loss.

Think we will go all out for the win, a draw is the worse outcome for both parties.

Think Hemmings will start in front of Mantack.

Not sure how many they will bring.

Alty 2-0. Hulme Hemmings

I see that Stockport have already announced details for any possible replay, including cut-price admission (£10 adult, £7 concessions). As a matter of interest, does anyone know if we are cutting prices on Saturday or keeping to the usual League match rates?

I think we would have announced by now if we were cutting admission price.

I'd rather pay the £13 (at either ground)  and the game was concluded at the first time of asking, whether it be et and pens or straight to pens.

And has someone painted the back of the popular stand?!  ;) #naff paint on my coat

I'd rather have a good run in it tbh.

Glorious here Ray. Had no rain for a number of days, very very light frost over night. Currently zero degrees but clear and sunny. No rain forecast today or over night due to be clear skies until at least 8pm then cloud cover overnight not dropping below 1 degree so should be fine

Pitch after a lot of work from last weekend Ray is in good nick. Forecast now says no rain until twelve ish. Pitch has been slit, so any rain should go through. My only concern is frost. Again forecast says that shouldn’t be a problem.

Maybe someone will come up with an entirely logical reason for all the changes, but until then all I can see is we are treating the Trophy with the same contempt as the Cheshire Senior Cup.
Why play a full team against Bradford in the last round only to put out an Alty Select Xl this time, most who have either not played this season, barely played this season, or not played for two months.

Not arsed about going of the throphy, not too bothered about the  fact we played a second string, fukking furious Hulme got sent off. That's Xmas fukked and probably the any chance of winning the league.

I doubt 7 players are injured or ill, using Densmore at Lb wasn't great. Mantack is ok but won't win you the league, Langley looked like a player.

Massive imbalance in squad.5 out and out CB and 1 striker

Yep....not sure what I thougth when I saw the line up, a real shock, although on a positive note, Phil is obviously saying the league is the priority.
The goal was a massive deflection and lucky and in the second half I thought with 10 men we battled well and worked hard.
But without Jordan there was no focal point, no one in the box when the crosses came in.
Let's be honest we all knew this would happen, Jordan was not going to play every match this year, but we will really miss him, it is now going to be a very difficult Christmas where like today, we work hard but are ineffective up front.
On a positive note, I can feel my toes now.

He’ll likely miss Darlington, stockport (Away) and guisley. With most teams playing one upfront these days their should be a decent calibre loanee aviailable for a month. Need to get cracking on that straight away. As for other comments are people not allowed a drink now? We won two conference titles with a team of seasoned drinkers. And if any lad in their twenties is still suffering a full week after a session then they’d best not bother drinking again. Uncalled for that in my opinion

I couldn't see properly myself, but heard it was for retaliation by stamping on the defender. Why we didn't get a free kick is a mystery.

We were as good as them even with only ten. I can only aessume that the management decided we are going for promotion and therefore game time was more important than winning. No worries as long as we go up or come  close.

Writing was probably on the wall given the chops and changes but I thought we gave it a decent go second half with ten men, and with a bit of luck would have forced a replay.

Losing Jord is my only real negative takeaway from today - especially if it was something as reckless and silly as stamping on one of their lads post-tackle which is what has been reported by Stockport fans near the action. What do we do now, Hancock as a striker?

Comments re. the lads’ Dublin Christmas do are absolutely ludicrous. Get a grip, we’re a semi professional club and the players have earned 24 hours downtime.

He does appear to raise his foot so granted it doesn’t look good but agreed v odd a liner right on top of it doesn’t even wave for a foul. Unfortunate where it happened too, it can’t have helped right in front of the Stockport fans. Also agree with what someone else said, if ever there was a game to rest our main striker ahead of a very intense spell of games then it was yesterday.
Title: Re: Stockport (FAT) Match Thread

It looked worse from the tv angle. I was sat in main stand and looked all day a free kick to us and didn’t see Jordan raise his foot other than going for the ball.

On the game itself with a strange team lineup we could have got a draw.

Not sure we will appeal

I think the video is fairly conclusive that Jordan hops out of the way of a lunging good old fashioned sliding tackle and the sliding players momentum takes the county player into contact with jordans raised foot as he hops out of the way.

A nothing challenge that the county payer made the most of before running away normally.

wasn't a foul either way...I hope we get justice for Jordan.

Even with the changes we probably would have won that yesterday with 11. Second half we battled to the end and their keeper did well. They also had chances. We had a slow start but our attacks were faster and better. Disappointed about going out but not disappointed with the performance overall.

Leaving aside the reasons for a much changed side, when I saw the line-up I expected us to struggle and we certainly did for the first 20 minutes or so - we looked like we weren't used to playing together. Once we got going though we did ok and did well in the face of that strong wind against us in the first half. Ben Harrison looked short of confidence initially but got better as the game went on. I thought Williams played well until he understandably tired later on.  Langley was solid and Wynn made important saves and can't be blamed for their deflected goal. I thought Hancock and Richman were outstanding. The young lad who came on right at the end barely got a kick and was knocked off the ball or bypassed very easily by the Stockport fullback so that will give him an idea of the step up in quality needed for the first team. Overall I thought we played ok and the man deficit wasn't really that obvious, apart from one melee near the end they didn't threaten that much. Disappointing to go out of the Trophy but I'm sure we'll be back on it next week with a more recognized team. Losing Jordan Hulme is an obvious blow but let's show anyone who thinks we're a one-man team or very reliant on him that its not the case.

Paul

It was a lot more than Jordan putting his foot to the ground. What he made contact with is impossible to say from the TV angle.

I'm looking for a response next Saturday. All the distractions are out the way now. We need to push on while others are trying to fit cup games into their schedule.

The other problem with not having put out our strongest side (which I'm very surprised about) is that Stockport now have a bit of psychological hold over us, which will make the festive double header harder. If we don't get a good return of points from those two games, the team selection on Saturday will go down as a miscalculation.

You could argue the other way, too - that they might get complacent.

However yes, I'm more of the opinion that it gets tougher - see us v BPA for example, they keeled over the most recent time after 2 good fights previously.

I dont know wether it was down to a flu bug or a conscious decision.
Seems odd with the alsager match and jj coming on and seemingly perfectly fine.
If it was deliberate squad rotation i think it was very offensive disrespecting of a competition that has meant a lot to alty over many years...play our strongest side in league fa trophy and fa cup games please....

Look, I know Phil almost certainly reads this forum, therefore I'll say this to reaffirm what I assume were his thoughts:

These players are going to need to be rotated between now and the end of the season. A Trophy game, just before the busiest time of the season, is unfortunately the most suitable candidate for that.

On another day, it might have come off - but it didn't, exacerbated of course by Jordan's dismissal.

I'm willing to see the bright side - squad players got minutes, Jordan will get a rest, and if we end up there or thereabouts in the league, we really won't mind at all.

Keep going lads - I'll be there Saturday.

If we get 9 points out of the next 4 games Saturdays experiment will have been worth it.

Doesn't look like Poole will be back anytime soon, so I think Hancock and the 9 and Harrop as the 10. Obviously it will depend on how some have recovered from the flu.

The Stockport team has just one change from the team against us, with Turnbull coming back into the team.
I expect we will have a few more (I know we have to have at least one) against Darlington, who are also 3-0 up, but captained by a 16 year old against Stockton Town in the Durham Challenge Cup.
