Title: How does play off system work these days?

Can someone explain how the play offs work these days? I assume only 2 teams get promoted?

If so why are there 7 teams involved, previously it was 6 I think?

It was previously 5. The teams that finish 2nd and 3rd automatically qualify for the play off semi finals while 4th to 7th play off to meet 2nd and 3rd.

So finish 4th to 7th and you need to win 3 games to get promoted..............best just be champions then  ;D

Presumably the final is held at the ground of the highest placed team (so always away if you finish seventh)

The only thing I'll add is that (I think) they don't play legs at any point

so 4th v 7th (at 4th's ground), 5th v 6th (at 5th's ground), then 2nd v lowest placed winner (at 2nd's ground), 3rd v highest placed winner (at 3rd's ground), then the final at the highest placed team's ground.

So 2nd will only ever play at home, 7th will only ever play away etc.
