Title: Southport Match Thread
Post by: oneedham on August 05, 2018, 01:25:02 PM
Keeper - no idea

RB Bannister (not seen him play but White RB worries the hell out of me )
LB Hampson
CB Goulding
CB Jones

DM Moult or Richman
CM Harrop ( Moult will play but if he ever did drop him then Harrop DM )
AM Williams ( bombing on )

LW JJ
RW Peers
CF Hulme

I am a huge fan of Hancock but maybe three in mid on Tuesday with Williams AM.

I am guessing neither Harrison or Hannigan are fit to start.

Dens and Poole still out.

I think in the really tough away games we should play Richman,Williams and Harrop. They would have a huge amount of energy to close teams down and Harrop can play DM.

Looking forward to Tuesday and there is no reason why we can't get at them.

Think it will be the same starting 11 as Saturday.

No idea why you'd drop Thompson.

Can't see Southport being as direct as Leamington, but as Watson's incharge who knows.

Southport 1-1 Alty (Hulme)

Just don't at all rate him. He is good at close range shot stopping and that is it for me.
They keep saying one of the reasons he is number 1 is because of his kicking. He kicked it out of play a few times yesterday and he was the same last season.
Love his passion but I just feel he is very hot headed and will lose us points.
As always I hope he proves me wrong.

He was in Saturday's pre-match warm up, so I'd assume so.

Southport 2-1 Altrincham - an undeserved defeat following a late winner. Another garbage referee.

Any left are the club? Alternatively what’s the crack on line? Do you print your own ticket like at AFC FLID?

Online sales close at midday on Tuesday 7 August. Once purchased your ticket can be scanned from your phone at the turnstile: https://southportfc.ktckts.com/event/sfc1819h01/southport-v-altrincham

Alternatively visit the Club Shop to buy a ticket prior to going through the turnstile. The Club Shop, situated on Haig Avenue, is open from 2pm on Tuesday 7 August.

Not to shoot you down but I think it is a terrible idea and hope we never adapt it.
It is very easy but it would put of some people I know, as they just wouldn't order them online.
I understand in games with potential big crowds it is needed for expected numbers and reduced queuing but to do that every game would be a ball ache.

Pros and cons for both sides of it I think. I wouldn't want to be the one to count the turnstile cash at full time, nor would I want to be the one responsible for handling it. We're moving into a cashless world and I think it should be embraced - but not at the expense of the non league charm that affords floaters the opportunity to decide at 2:30 and swiftly come on down. Probably room for both if we got it right.

Forest Green managed worst of both worlds - went to the turnstile "you can't get in without a ticket" "where do I get a ticket from?" "ticket office in main stand"  Go to main stand queue up at single ticket office (rather than several turnstiles) buy ticket and take it back round to bloke on turnstile - whole process was a complete waste of time.  It was the same day they charged me £3 to get into the car park at the ground and then told me it was full and directed me to park outside on the road!  tbf it did mean I was at the front of the queue to get out of the place.

Must be a while since we won at Haig Avenue

Annoyed with myself - working in Ormskirk today until 6pm and decided to head home instead of up the road

With our historic minging record at Haig Avenue and in the context of all the investment they’ve had in the summer that really is an excellent 3 points and sounded fully deserved too. Well played to all.

Every player put in a shift tonight.
We showed Southport how to play football the right way.
It was an almost faultless performance and a pleasure to watch.
I was fearful when I saw no Harrison or Hannigan, but Goulding and Jones were immense. All outstanding and first time I've ever seen us win there. A big well done to PP and his team.
Title: Re: Southport Match Thread

Great performance.
Great decision to have three mids as they all grafted and closed down well.
Jones and Goulding were immense and I think we may need one of them for pace. Goulding is a quality signing.
I am about to say it .. what a game White had. The defence were incredible.
JJ was on his game and their full back couldn't handle him.
Still don't see an Alty player in Daniels.
Loved it. Onwards and upwards.
Well done to all the players and staff.

It was a bit nervy at the back until we scored the first goal. We gifted them lots of chances they didn't deserve. We were the better team by some distance.

Superb result and fully deserverd. Daniels looks off the pace and we were better when Hancock replaced Harrop. White was my mom.

They were direct and poor. Staggered the crowd didn't boo them off

After there equaliser we were under the cosh for about ten minutes

Our defence stood firm with some excellent blocking.

A beautiful strike from JJ for our second hard to pick a MOM but I

Going for White this Evening an absolute rock at the back tonight,

One last thing the support was excellent again tonight,no idea how many

 Maybe about 250.

Agree with everything said previously, good team performance and the first time I have seen us pick anything up from Haig Ave. Brilliant. Hopefully more to come from Brendon, disappointing thus far.

Thought we looked even more solid when Richman and Hancock came on.

Well done to all that traveled tonight, well over 200 there and well appreciated by the whole team and management.

Post by: andrewflynn on August 07, 2018, 11:28:14 PM
No reason why this squad can’t be bang up there at the end of the season. Class tonight, best thing about the performance for me was the way we weathered their ten minute storm after the equaliser. Goulding is a majestic centre half and I’m hopeful he’ll prove to be an inspired signing. Our new Scott Leather.

Trying not to get carried away. Southport clearly a side still learning a (bobbins) brand of football and I’m sure they’ll be much more cohesive the next time we play them - but we just looked fitter, sharper and technically better than them tonight. Job well done.

Absolutely schooled Southport last nIght, very impressive. If I had to pick up on anything, then we do need to be more decisive and quick with our passing out at the back.Quicker thinking forwards may have latched on to a couple last night. That aside, superb all round performance.

First time we've won there in over 20 years, and first time I've seen us do it in 6 visits going back to 1978 !

Great team performance against a full time side. Was congratulated by a number of their fans when leaving, and I have to agree with the one who reckoned they wouldn't see a better goal than JJ's this season.

Particularly pleased with the way we weathered the 10 minute storm following their equaliser. Bad free kick decision from another poor ref (nowhere near as bad as Saturday's clown though !) and I thought Thompson's positioning was questionable. Previous Alty sides would have buckled, but we fought them off.

JJ’s goal is surely already a candidate for goal of the season, even decade. I was in line with the shot so to see it coming towards me and curl the way it did, in seeming slow motion, outside the reach of a diving keeper was almost balletic. With JJ hitting it in his stride with the outside of his right foot made it appear very Showleresque too.

A very enjoyable night so thanks to the team.

Have we evolved into a 433 now? If so, I'm all for it.

Not a massive fan of the 4231 at any level, but begrudgingly I accepted that it fitted Alty really well in the Evo Stik with our personnel (particularly Poole as No10 is by far his best role).

In his absence I think I'd like to see the following:

                            Hulme
Hancock                                  Johnston

             Williams              Richman

                           Moult (c)

Hampson   Jones    Goulding    White

                         Thompson

Harsh on Harrop, but the three other central midfielders we have are experienced and instil confidence both on the front and back foot.

I really don't know who I'd select anymore. A case could be made for any of them. Glad it's PP who has to make the call.
433 might have been for Southport's benefit as I believe Telford had done something similar against them on Saturday.

Amusing to read the cries for Port to poach JJ from us. Think they might have forgotten who we, and they are just a tad. Its hardly a glamour move upwards is it? They're Southport not Southampton.
My thoughts exactly, i'd be astonished if any of our players were to end up going to clubs in the same division, conf national perhaps but why sign for that load of lumpers
