Early days but looking v promising. Granted Macc will be amongst the bottom markers in L2 this season but you can only beat what’s put in front of you. Of added significance I think that the milkmen thrashed Ashton 6-1 at their place on Saturday, places our result into a very decent context. Will be interested to hear more about any trialists at an appropriate juncture.

It was a good, and deserved, win, as Macc certainly wanted to win and weren't going through the motions, and they are currently a League team even if it beggars belief that an EFL team don't have a goalkeeper signed up at this stage. The first half keeper had played for them previously and was substituted in a game against AFC Fylde which they lost 7-0. A bit like us resigning Messrs Dawber or Preston?

I was impressed by Lloyd Bannister, who wore the number 3 shirt when he came on, but played at right back, both forhis attacking and defensive play. The only thing is that right back is hardly a problem position. He appears to have been playing for Patro Eisden Maasmechelen in the Belgian third tier.

Now I don't feel quite so ignorant for not knowing who he was.

Different from previous pre-seasons. Didn't look like a bunch of strangers trying to work out who each other was.

Really looking forward to the Crewe game now. I have a feeling Peers will have a big part to play this season.

Very rare in recent seasons due to bank-rolled Evo-Stik teams, however in Ashton's case I think they'll really struggle.

I think Ashton's home form will be hugely important as it's not an easy place to go. I can see them having a strong start but fading away as the season progresses.

Hammered by Trafford yesterday. We havent fared too well there ourselves in recent years, so Tuesday will be another good marker I suppose.
