Title: New Alty Site
Post by: hsmith1 on July 04, 2018, 03:32:53 PM
I cannot find any links for Radio Robins on the new site,Alty TV is there though.

it's a fantastic revamp.

sadly no massive link or info on to how to invest.....

nowhere to order season ticket would have given it a try......early days I hope all criticism is given and viewed as constructive as it's a really positive revamp.

Please do leave as much feedback as possible in here and I'll be sure to relay it onwards. If you find any bugs, anything missing, anything you'd want to use but isn't there. Nothing too small.

Season tickets - In it's current form the website can't facilitate online transactions, to my knowledge. Therefore we cannot sell season tickets through it just yet. This is obviously a logical next step though!

Radio Robins link - It's not in the top menu bar at the moment, would you like to see it added there? You can find links to Radio Robins by clicking on the fixture and opening up the match day information: https://www.altrinchamfc.com/fixture/first-team/2018-19/rhyl-a

After checking it further the link is wrong from the old website.

I found the pop up which appeared after a few seconds to register for a newsletter to be really intrusive to the user experience.. Not exactly something that any user would want to have appear as its a change of context which is an unnecessary click to return to the main content of the site..

Seems to keep its shape nicely when swapping to mobile though which is a better responsive design.

I’ll pass this on but I would argue against it being *that* intrusive on the UX. It literally takes a second to click off. You’ve got to remember the club have never built a mailing list before so in the early stages it’s going to be important to grab as much attention as possible.

It only seems to pop up once, not every time you visit the site so seems OK to me.

Should there be a link to the Alty Files somewhere from the new site, perhaps a history bit in the Club section?

Seems my comment has been deleted

I’ll try again: I have concerns that pop-up may lead to data issues. Certainly not okay with GDPR legislation introduced recently
Title: Re: New Alty Site
Post by: AT on July 05, 2018, 12:40:17 AM
In regards to the pop up.. It doesn't matter if the club has or hasn't had a mailing list in the past it is bad practice for a website to be that forthcoming on a new device or clean browser for a new user to be presented with a pop up.

Pop ups are generally seen with distain for many users because they are presenting a user with an activity or choice which is out of their control.

There is an adequate privacy policy but this is not communicated through the pop up.. It really doesn't matter if it takes a second to click off because mailing lists are optional and should not be put infront of all users without proper explanation of how this data will be used.

We'd be better of embedding a link into each article saying "Want to hear more stories link this?" Sign up to our newsletter {here}

Then a sign up form of news that you want: I.e first team  community ladies events

A few points:

1) I looked at it from the point of view of a new potential supporter or visitor. Can they find the basic information they need quickly i.e. through one obvious link/click:
- when are the matches?
- how much is it?
- where is it?
- how do I get there?
- what are the facilities?

It took me a few clicks and a bit of searching  - most of the information is under the not so obviously named "Club" menu option.  Perhaps a more obvious link might be more helpful: something like "New to Alty?" , "First time visitors", "All the basics"....?

2) I couldn't see anything obvious about the availability of shares/investment opportunities (surprise, surprise).

3) I would think it would be a good opportunity to have the CSH  available for sponsorship as well as the stadium, main stand etc

4) The CSH is described as a registered charity, which is inaccurate and potentially misleading as far as I'm aware - it's certainly used by a registered charity, but to describe it as such suggests that users of the CSH are contributing to a registered charity, which they may not be.

I agree with these points; perhaps a link to Mike and Alison's details for a new fan who might more specific questions

I agree with this - when I've looked at other away websites - I get frustrated trying to find what I want to know, occasionally on a mobile device.  It would be good to have a very obvious "Visiting Fan" link very prominent with a 1 page with everything you suggest.

Harold, the "pop up" appears when a new user enters the site (or if you are using a different device or broswer/cleared history etc).

The "pop up" is actually a modal dialog window and not a "Pop Up" and will not be filtered out by an Ad-blocking program.

So after first time you have clicked it (and not deleted browser history) you will not see it again for subsequent visits.

It has been updated to have a check box which is to accept the privacy policy and the Terms and Conditions but laughably when viewing the Privacy Policy page on arrival you will be confronted by this Pop Up yet again.

We are committed to giving our fans what they want from the new website and across all our other services. We know we are not yet offering an equivalent service to the imperious John Laidlar yet, but it is our intent to do so.  And Matchday Updates is certainly part of this. You may recall we have not always been able to offer Matchday Updates for Pre Season Friendlies so please don't be so quick as to write us off.

And please understand the distinction between the platform (the look and feel) and the content (what's on it). We feel we have improved the platform but, again, we have a lot to do to get the content to the same level.

Can I ask for two things - the first being some tolerance from our fans as we grow the content, the second being to make sure we have all your suggestions for umprovement.

The website is provided for all us Alty fans.  We would be stupid to not provide what we need

I liked the old site too, however since the excellent John Laidlar was stepping down, it was the right time to introduce a newer and more up to date platform, we must look to the future you know Martin  :D

Excellent match report on the Rhyl game on the new site.

I too would welcome a live commentary facility, but this was very much John's pigeon and would prove very difficult to replicate.

There were plenty of things wrong with the old site, most of which have been immediately addressed with this new site. Sure it probably hasn’t ticked every single box from the outset - but I don’t understand how anyone could see altrinchamfc.com as anything other than an improvement.

I suppose being a bit of a technophobe I wouldn’t notice technical issues with the old site. I just know it was very easy to use which for me is the main thing. I’m not a massive one for change and like a good moan but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

Sorry, but for me your attitude bypasses "constructive criticism" (of which there is plenty on here quite justifiably) and lands squarely in the realm of  churlishness bordering on outright rudeness. Give these people a chance to get it right please!

Given you’ve already already stated that you are a “webmaster”, I thought you may have had an appreciation for why Radio Robins is not linked to in the menu bar. It is an external site. We want to keep our traffic on altrinchamfc.com for commercial and SEO reasons, where possible, as it will increase our average session duration. This means Radio Robins is now embedded into the site.

To address some fans’ queries on behalf of the club:

There will always be the option to head to radiorobins.com, however users can find the Radio Robins Player by using the match centre and clicking on the fixture they wish to listen to. Example: https://www.altrinchamfc.com/fixture/first-team/2018-19/kidsgrove-athletic-a - You’ll also find previews and match commentary in text form.

Secondly, match day commentary wasn’t available for Rhyl simply due to lack of volunteers. You’ll notice my Twitter updates were also quite restricted. If only there were potential webmasters out there with an idea of what they see the website as.......

As much as you might want to hear about histons u17 bake sale, there is very little content astound atm.

Twitter figures show this as we’re down to 600,000 hits from 2 million a month.

Content will always ebb and flow (thought web masters died into Y2K)

Or rather I can access it but the frame doesn't shrink to the size of the screen.

Is this something that is

b)  a consequence of the age of my mobile
c)  a result of something I've missed and there actually is a way to view it?

Hopefully on of the 'boffins' on here can help an old fan out!!!!  ;)
