Title: another signing to be announced tonight
Post by: Jezza on May 21, 2018, 03:01:04 PM
According to the website.

There is a consensus that having retained 15 of last season's squad we only need a few additions to make up an 18 man squad....I think most would agree that these 3 signings need to be real quality and something to get us even more excited.

Fans have cited a keeper, a defender, midfielder (probably a JJ quality winger) and a forward....not sure which of these Anthony dwyer is...

I'm wondering wether PP will just sign the 3 or 4 needed and go into the friendlies with just these or dabble around a bit more?

I do feel we need to lift the quality a tiny bit but that will mean a very tough decision and one of last season's players taking a back seat.....

I suspect Dwyer might be the person brought in to keep Jordan on his toes to be honest

Tom Peers will score ten plus league goals next season.

Sean Williams signed for us again from Warrington.

I’m happy with that, cracking player

I'm slightly baffled. He wasn't any use last time. Maybe he'll fit into this set up better.

I think a lot of people were disappointed when he left. And he did play for us in the Conference Premier remember

Will prove to be a very good signing. Added layers to his game since leaving us. Ran the show against us three times this season.

Great signing. I always liked him.
Times are a change.

And never produced anything. But if the current management see something in him I'll reserve my judgement.

He had some good performances with us at the league above so I think you'll  be surprised. For two of the 4 games against us last season he was the best player on the pitch.

Not convinced tbh.

Welcome back and good luck

Yeah, I was impressed with him last season when I saw him play. Plus, we have lost Chris Merrie who definitely gave us something extra at the end of the season, and Sean has the experience and guile to fill that gap. Great on set pieces too.

Good signing in my book. Wasn't far short for us in National, been part of a North winning squad at Halifax, still in his prime. What's not to like ?

Sean Williams was criminally under used when he was here first time, he was the best player on the pitch when we played Warrington at Home. Super composed ball player and will be great addition for this league

Brilliant signing! Well done PP. He was number 1 on my list (alongside Elliot Newby) this Summer.

Still only young, has improved since he was last with us (and to be honest he wasnt miles off then either), and was the star player by a mile at the club I thought was second best to us last season.

Straight into the starting XI for me.

Sinnott was incompetent perfering Moult and Richman to him decent player,I'd be pleased with that if I still went.

I always felt he was under used too. As you say a composer footballer that can pick a pass , a good signing.

Welcome back Sean, I know you will love it at Alty again  ;D

A much improved player on the evidence of the three games I saw him play last season. He is now running straight lines rather than the ever-decreasing circles he tended to find in his previous spell here; he is a competitive/combative player (delete according to choice) which we need; and he was certainly the best midfield player on the pitch in at least one of the games last season. I think Williams Mk II will be an asset.

I am enjoying the positive responses for a player I feel we let go too soon. I am feeling hugely positive about the season already. PP for me has made 99% the right decisions in team/squad selections, even to the point where he brought a player off at halftime at Rushall away. For me personally him and Neil know a decent player who is hungry and has pride to succeed.

I don't think the circumstances were right last time. It's tough in a team that is going backwards but I thought he showed promise so I'm happy that he's getting another opportunity.

It was after he left that we started going backwards, although the two things are not necessarily related !

Our best and longest run in the conference national under Lee Sinnott had Sean Williams in the side. He was a bit rawer then and picked up numerous cards, but he was harshly let go in that summer, very harshly for me, especially when we signed players that simply didn’t fit for us in replacement. Hopefully turn out to be an astute signing

It was releasing players like Sean that had really started to make me nervous about 'clearing the decks' policies in general - we all saw how disastrous it was the season after. You've got to be sure the player coming in is better.

From memory, we replaced Sean with Josh O'Keeffe. We went down and Sean received an England 'C' call-up not long afterwards.

An excellent signing, welcome back Sean. Having spoken to him at Warrington after the league game I think he has unfinished business here.

Strange decision to release him back at the time........although I am sure LS had his reasons and/or thought what he did instead was a better option at the time for AFC..........albeit proved wrong

Sean was definitely one of the best players we faced last season, albeit it was the only team I have ever seen us play against four times in the same season (I think)

You must have missed the treat of seeing us play Fisher about 300 times in a month in various FA Trophy replays in, possibly, 1989-90?

I suppose it is not uncommon to face a team from your league in the cup competitions (which also go to a replay)............it is just that I have not personally done it before..........but I might have come close with Tamworth and Accrington (3 times a season I can certainly remember) in our 'reprieve-years'

In April 1977 we played Scarborough 5 times in 23 days - the NPL, The Trophy semis first and second leg, the first replay at Rotherham, and the second replay at Doncaster.
