Title: Admission prices next season
Post by: Jezza on April 24, 2018, 07:29:36 PM
On main website the club is asking for views on Admission pricing.
I have replied suggesting whatever the average is for adults
And £2 for concessions and kids...
Lets make it accesible for families and oaps and not view kids and oaps as a cash source...
Other thoughts?
Let the club know dont just post on here!

Like Turkeys voting at Christmas, it would be easy to just vote for the most cost effective option...........however we need a playing budget that enables us to put up a challenge next season and into this we have to factor in that whatever we charge home fans, we will also need to charge Stockport, Chester, York and FCUM for example

I would go for a pricing regime that see us about a £1 cheaper than the dearest, but that is just me. I appreciate that not everyone is able to work full time and for a lot of people times are quite hard and football has to take second place over family

Definitely think the concession price should be £ 5.00. Vital we do our utmost to get the youth in.

Option D for me. I want conference football and it doesn’t grow on fresh air.

as I am now a concession, a £ either way makes no difference to me.

I replied with some suggestions as below:-

My suggestion for pricing is other.

However, i suggest using option D as the base option. At the turnstiles you pay your entry fee keeping it simple for the gate person with £15, £10 and £5 options.  THEN each person on entry receives a free raffle ticket, different colours each week etc which entitles you to two benefits :-

Benefit 1 – £1 off your food/drinks bill or a free bottle of whatever drink – it may also entice more bar spending and more people to use the facilities. Assume 400 use the facilities = £400 give away.
Benefit 2 – when the ticket is handed over it for the £1 discount/free drink it is entered into a half time draw, giving the winner £50.00 = £50 give away.

Total give away is £450  which is approximately 50p per person.

This option gives you more income plus something back for the fans and users of the facilities. This idea could be used for options B and C if needed of course, or you may be able to think of something more suitable as a free give away to reduce admin time.

I then replied with a further email as i forgot some items i was going to say, so sent the following as well:-

I forgot to mention, that i would also ask that within the pricing £1 per person, equivalent to the gate numbers is put in to a Cash ISA each week. This on average is £1000 a week.

Over a season of i don’t know the games, say 21 is £21,000, some games will have less attendance so equivalent to £20,000 which is the cash ISA limit. This £20,000 would be worth say £20,500 by the end of the season to be used the season after or for ground improvements.

Bingo you have the majority paying £13.50 with increased bar takings and a cash ISA for the future.

Announcing the Half Time draw may also start to get more people in the bar.

I like the first option, unfortunately the second one probably won't fly because a) you can only do an ISA as an individual and b) as a small business or charity banks really aren't interested in your savings.  I tried 8 big name banks & building soc and the best I could find for £70k was 0.2%pa (£40 on your £20k and that's if it's all in from the start of the year and guaranteed not to touch t for the year!)

For all of us who are still excited about next season after the fantastic events yesterday, I was looking at what life might be like in the the National League North.

Particularly from a financial point of view, while having a bigger budget does not guarantee success, York and Darlington will tell you that, but out of the teams in the play off's only Brackley and Bradford PA, have an average attendance below 1000. Well done to them.

I think this also helps with the debate about admission prices, although as Bill mentioned only 30% of our revenue is from match day admissions,  it is still interesting to compare different clubs. So the table below has the average attendances from the National league North on FootballWebPages, and the advertised ticket prices from club websites.

Just for fun, I have then taken the average attendance, and then said half of the people are full paying, a quarter are concessions and a quarter are juniors, to calculate a very, very rough revenue figure. Obviously there are lots of assumptions here, I have not included special offers etc. so it is just to comapre different clubs, using the same estimates.

A few points :-
1) The average attendance cost for adults is £13.20 for the league, so for Altrincham I have used the matchday admission price option C on the website as this looks the closest to this. I think a few people above have said use the average for the league, so Option C would look sensible.
2) The average attendance when we were in the National League North was 1150, So for the purposes of this exercise, I have added an average attendance of 1200. I think he directors should be targeting at least an average attendance of 1200 for the club, next season.
3) Given those points above our average match day revenue looks to be in the top 6 (excluding Chester (av. att 1827) and Guisley (av. att 883), and I think we should be able to give Phil a budget, to be in contention for a play off spot next season.

We are better than Brackley full stop. I''m expecting top six next year simply because we are good and a team who will work well together.

The last two years we have had some good players but the team has been disfunctional.

Just for the record I think Buzz would have been OK but he would have needed time to learn. PP is already up to speed.

Some good work there and many thanks..........but what we do not know is how much the ground costs the clubs ........York have a big income but are in financial trouble

What a staggering statement. In a parallel universe, Rowley got his wish and Buzz stayed on. Alty went into the last game of the season battling Hednesford for 17th place in the league in front of 382.

As an example, for 2016/7 York had an average gate of about 2500, had about £2.2m income but lost nearly £1m.

We had an average gate of 1150, had about £550k income but lost just over £20k.

That's comparing two separate divisions of course, and York charged a lot more than we did. Loads of other factors too; season tickets, sponsorship, hospitality, bar takings.

I think that wins by a country mile the maddest post on here all season. It doesn’t bear thinking about if he’d got the job over Parky.

Surely of much more significance is BPA getting to the play-offs little more than a year after being relegation certainties. It does beg the question where we might be today if Bower and Boshell's application for our job had been accepted after Neil Young left. We've seen what this club is capable of with a bright and ambitious management team with fresh ideas. Really looking forward to seeing what PP and NS can do next season.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that PP was the wrong appointment. He has turned out to be an inspired appointment. It will be interesting to see how things do play out over the coming seasons. It could be exciting times.
