Title: Buxton - Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on April 15, 2018, 10:21:38 AM
Buxton 13/5
Draw 14/5
Alty 8/11

The first of three chances this week to get over the line. Probably a first visit/new ground for a lot as I can’t recall us playing at buxton for many many years in a proper fixture. I’ve seen us there in a friendly numerous times though. It’s only 30 minutes away, let’s try and make it like a home game and get the job done. There’s a very regular rail service from Piccadilly and Stockport.

I'd guess it's our first league visit since we were in the Cheshire League 50 years ago, though we did go there in the Trophy late 70's.

The lads won't need motivating, but they took points off us at Moss Lane (only home game I missed) and are decent on their day (9th in the league). They've only lost 2 of their last 10, including a win over Ashton.

I take us to win 2-1 (Harrop, Hulme). Hardy to make sure all scorers begin with H !

If we turn out in the numbers we should, the gate should top 400.

We played them in the NPL in the seventies so the last league game would have been in 78-79, and we have since been there in the Trophy more recently as you say, but later still.

I can't make it myself, but I anticipate a narrow win, or even a draw, as they gave us a very good game at Moss Lane as I recall.

Think we will win, just  2-1 and maybe seal the deal ,maybe 200 plus away fans ?

I saw them get comprehensively outplayed by an admittedly very strong looking Matlock team a fortnight ago. Having said that, that fame apart, their results have been pretty impressive lately. A draw would be okay.

Last League game at Silverlands - October 17th 1978; won 4-0 (Rogers 3, Heathcote)
Last competitive visit to Silverlands - January 14th 1989, FA Trophy 1st Rd, won 2-0 (Cook, Brown o.g.) Gate 1005

Pleased to read this as I was convinced I went there for a league game in ‘78

Good service outward (trains ex Piccadilly 1621, 1649, 1722, 1749 or in extremis 1821, journey time approx. 1 hour) but very restricted return (2257 ex Buxton arr. Picc 2355 is the only possibility).

Used to smash them in our Cheshire league days, having said that they were the first side to knock us out of the trophy. I thought they played well at the JD and it will be a difficult game, but we have momentum after Saturday

Hoping Hannigan is available.

Happily take a draw and see what gives elsewhere.

 Buxton 1-1 Alty. Hulme.

Can't make it tonight. Good look  and safe journey to all.

A big away following 250+

Warrington and Grantham getting beat

Celebrating been Champions at 21.50 tonight

The last 2 points probably unlikely but you never know.

How very Alty. We go on to win our four remaining games.

Saturday's substitution was purely tactical at 4-0 up. It was just to give him a rest before this tough week. Fit and well.

Bad news about Jones. Wish him a speedy recovery

Very bad news about Jones, but a decent point. Hopefully Hampson back for Shaw. Sounds like Shaw had another very bruising encounter at Warrington tonight, so that's good at least. Fingers crossed.

Poor game, very stop and start throughout. Jones will be a big miss.
I have criticised White in the past but he was decent tonight which is good to see.

 What injury has Jones sustained?

 Officials were absolutely garbage tonight.

In the end good point against a stubborn Buxton side,Max was lucky not to get sent off after the final Whistle

Credit to the boys for dragging him away from the Ref.

It said hamstring on the commentary on RR but not confirmed. Shame Warrington held on vs the AQUAFORCE but balanced out by Grantham letting in a 94th minute equaliser vs Hednesford. Onto Thursday now. SLA played most of tonight with 10 men so hopefully that may count in our favour.

Official news will confirm but it’s safe to say he’s done for the season. This is bad. Hampson back Thursday is a god send.

ADDED: It’s his hamstring, that’s confirmed. Needs to be assessed but first signs are it’s a tear. f**ks sake.

I wasn't there, but am quite happy with a point as I thought this was, with the possible exception of Grantham, the toughest of the final few fixtures, with Buxton having been such tough opponents at Moss Lane. Well done to everyone who went; you certainly made yourselves heard on Radio Robins.

On a sadder note, James Jones will be missed, but I think most clubs are in a similar situation as they run out of players in this fixture pileup.

Finally, think of me at work tomorrow, as my boss is a Hereford supporter and we have been having a friendly discussion on who would get promoted first. He won!

A rare Alty outing for me this season and, alas, I didn't exactly pick a humdinger with that particular game in the Derbyshire gloom.

A fair result in what was largely a war of attrition with a dearth of attempts on goal.

My first visit to the Silverlands since October 1978 and it was reassuring to hear that the half-time music hadn't changed much as we were serenaded by Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline.

Buxton set out to frustrate by playing an unattractive almost anti-football style. The referee failed to clamp down on their persistent fouling. I can understand teams don’t want to get tonked by us, but I’ve got far more respect for teams that try and play football like Barwell on sat (not the the away game against them though) than Buxton last night. I expect more of the same against shaw lane.
Nice little ground though.

A well earned point against a dogged Buxton. As per usual in this league the officialdom was a disgrace.

Sad to see Jones going off injured the squad is a bit thin just now. Let's get the four points we need, our goal difference is worth another point and won't be equalled.
Both Shaw lane and Warrington had players sent off tonight.

Took me over two hours to get to Buxton thanks to the traffic in Stoke.  Just 90 minutes to get home even after driving through the fog on the Moors.

That's me done for watching Alty apart from the Hednesford game as I can't make the other 3 games.

I would put Moult there and then have Richman and Harrop in centre mid. I love Harrop's passion but would tell him to chill a bit.

I too would play Moult centre half.....also agree about telling the entire team (not just harrop) not to play into shaw lane's hands....not to get wound up by their gamesmanship and play them at their own game......

Also love the irony in Tom being our only fit centre half.... ;D ;D ;D

I had to turn and look away when I saw Max charging towards their player that got him the yellow card - it was like a slow motion train crash coming !

A post match comment from one of the players "So physical it was like a boxing match on a dreadful pitch. Expect the same on Thursday."

They showed good discipline to grind out a draw.

Apart from a bit of a slope the only thing wrong with the pitch was possibly the grass was a bit long.....struck me how good it looked when I walked in don't really think we can have any complaints about it.

Was incredibly physical though but Buxton did play some decent stuff and Thommo definetly the busier of the two keepers.....mostly though they just hoofed it long and chased...poor Jordan had two or three defenders on him everytime pulling him around...
