Title: Lancaster - Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on April 06, 2018, 10:02:50 AM
Lancaster 11/4
Draw 11/4
Alty 8/11

A nice Away day Lancaster, and a straight forward away day. Hourly train departing from the airport on the hour and at quarter past the hour from Piccadilly
£20 return from the airport, £16.90 return from town, let’s get this done.

Driving up with a stop in Preston en route. I love Giant Axe as a ground, despite our comparatively poor record.

2-1 win (Hulme, Hancock). Hope Hampson is fit enough to play his part (half a game each for him and White would work for me).

Attendance 468

It's one of the fixtures I was really looking forward to. Many happy memories of Lancaster. Just hope 1) It's on 2) We turn up
Lancaster aren't playing well and for me it's a must win.

My memory is about as reliable as the calendar method, but I think that was my only ever visit.

What a night that was! We had an absolute legion there and eventually prevailed in extra time.

I recall us playing there against them on the day i took my daughter back for her secomd year at Uni in September 2003 and we were woeful as we lost 2-0 in the FA Cup. Not sure if we've played them since,

They were members of the Nationwide North during the 2004/05 season that culminated in us achieving promotion via the play-offs.

Therefore, my guess for the date of our last appearance at the Giant Axe would be Tuesday, 21st September 2004, when Marcus Hallows scored in a 1-1 draw.

Over to Mike Garnett for confirmation/correction...!

... and the attendance was 356.
I note in passing that we have been given the Fair Play Award for March for our division. I trust this will not have the effect that Manager or Team of the Month usually does - namely seeing one or more of ours sent off tomorrow ...
By the by, Lancaster City must be in the running for easiest ground to get to by train, on the basis that as you get off the northbound train you can see the ground beyond the bay platform and the walk down the path takes just a couple of minutes ...
Hopefully our game tomorrow will be a better spectacle than the women's international this evening, which had all the intrinsic excitement of watching paint dry - which is a comment on the way it was played, not the gender of the players!

don't care if it's a scrappy 1-0 in the 90th minute own goal off a Lancaster's arse...

c'mon alty get the first of the five wins and a draw needed to wrap this up (based on getting to 93 points which I think at the moment is the mark)

But that's when we'll need the bunting to be ready. I for one don't want to have to wait for you to knit the bunting to start celebrating.

better pitch than last week, we should have been out of sight before they scored. Should have had a penalty second half and scored a few more. Really pleased with the result on a pitch where we have got little in the past. great turn out by the travelling Alty fans. Think you can see the lift it gives the team and the appreciation at the end from the players and management.

Onwards and upwards.

Poor performance over the 90 minutes but much improved from last  week. Hannigan and Harrop were superb. White was decent aswel.

Recall Jones making 1sucessfull pass all game, defended well though.

No idea why we signed Merry

We are now at the results end of the season, that was still a tricky bobbly pitch to play on. We were much better than last week. Yes we could have been better, but I will take 3 points any day of the week.

You could maybe knit the bunting now but not tell anyone? Perhaps even deny it if asked?

Well, I thought we made bloody hard work of that, but a win is a win. Harrop was brilliant for me, never seen a player work so hard and fight for absolutely everything as if his life depended on it - well done for taking your chance lad. TT also had a cracking game, mopping up the little he had to do very confidently. I honestly believe that 3 more wins will do it, so onwards and upwards...

It was a tale of two halves really. The first half there was a lot of one touch football. Second half we stood off too much and didn't really seem to have the confidence to go for goal at times. Last ten minutes was jitteryreally. They could have been playing possession football but seemed hell-bent on giving the ball away.

In a season where there are so many candidates for, the award, I will be voting for Max Harrop as Player of the Season. He sets such a tremendous example to others with his energy and movement, his determination not to be knocked off the ball (and his desire to win it back if that does happen),  and his willingness to sit on the bench if required,

But above all, the smile on his face that shows how much he enjoys being part of the team.

Tony T make 3 or 4 decent saves to keep us ahead.  Much more balance with White.  Harrop was ace

Harrop was man of the match. He seemed to have learnt the lessson we were given at Rushall. His determination to win every 50/50 ball was a joy to watch and he should have been awarded a penalty in the second half. We were easily the better team but our finishing was poor. We should have been 4:0 up by half time.
