Title: RIP Kenny Palin

It is with great sadness that Altrincham FC has learned of the death of legendary supporter Kenny Palin who, over his many years of supporting the Club, became well-known to many of our opponents' clubs as well as our own. Kenny passed away at 6.30am this morning in hospital, with his sister in attendance. Despite ill health in recent years Kenny continued to support the Robins

Another terrible loss for the club

So many memories of Kenny its difficult to know where to start

Always had time to chat and always asked me how my daughter was

As a teenager Kenny was a huge vocal support behind the goal with his legendary Zigga zagga zigga zagger and such ditties as a lady who swallowed a fly

And from my days on the coaches .. are we there yet driver

I mean you could write a book on this guy he loved sport and was known throughout the town

You will be sorely missed Kenny

RIP

I last saw him a couple of weeks ago, when he told me he'd had a pacemaker fitted. He didn't look well then, and news of his passing is no real surprise.

I'd known Kenny since we were kids, and he was a genuine character who will be sadly missed. There are hundreds of memories of a guy who was larger than life.

"Get your subs on St.Peter" and God bless you Kenny.

Gutted a legend at Altrincham fc and town, Remember walking the Alty festival with Kenny on the float and he got more cheers than the club himself.
RIP mate.

Very sad news, Kenny always had a hello for everyone. Working in  Ashton-under-Lyne I saw Kenny walking the street, he came over and said hello and we chatted about Alty (it was the week before the second Spurs game), I asked him why he was in Ashton, his reply was "sightseeing why else !"  top guy.

Sorely missed and I hope there's a Zigga Zagga from the terrace at the next home game.

Very sad news. Kenny seemed to have been around the club for as long as I can remember.

How many football supporters can claim to have a terrace chant associated directly to them ?

One memory was of seeing him at the National Botanic Garden of Wales in Camerthern a couple of years ago, and his look of surprise, that despite being so far from home, someone had recognised him. Not only that he still had his Alty scarf and hat on !

RIP Kenny, and condolences to family and friends.

Very sad news. A truly top fellow, and absolutely sports mad. He always stopped for a chat at Alty games, and whenever I saw him at Timperley Cricket Club. He never missed a trick, and always asked how the girlfriend was and who Ashley ( who I play for) were playing this week.

So many good memories of Kenny, you can’t help but smile when you think of him.

One of my favourites has to be coming back from an away game, geographically south of Alty, on the coach. The car craft of Rochdale advert came on the radio and Kenny turned round and yelled to Ecky, “Mark! MARK! THERES BEEN A CAR CRASH IN ROCHDALE!”

Rest in Peace Kenny, you’ll be sadly missed.

Wow, I started supporting Alty around 41 years ago (old gitdom is upon me like an unwelcome vagrant) and like most others on this thread, Kenny is an ever present memory. Rarely without a smile on his face and as others have pointed out, almost guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Such a simple joyous view of life; the world would be a brighter place if more of us had the same outlook.

If I believed in an afterlife, Kenny would be roaming around with a small transistor radio, smile on face, telling anyone and everyone the latest Rochdale score.

RIP

Very sad news indeed. Always smiling and always stopped for a chat at the match or anywhere else I bumped into him. He was the only person I knew that could just turn up at a wedding/birthday party etc uninvited and be welcomed with open arms. RIP Kenny the buffet slayer!

The popular side should be officially named after Kenny Palin, I think. An absolute constant throughout my years watching Altrincham - I’ll never forget the first time I heard him start zigger zagger off. Football clubs like ours are built on legendary characters like Kenny and we’ve lost a true legend today. My condolences to his family and close friends. The flood of tweets from past and present players says it all.

+1. Or Maybe replace the Radio Robins / Alty TV banner with a permanent sign named after Kenny?

Where do I start here!!!?

I first met Kenny on the 06th October 1974 at my Alty debut V Buxton. my college colleague Ian Haigh introduced him to me. Since then we always chatted at every game and I had a great deal of time for him. He was very friendly, funny and a flirt with the lady fans. I know he was fighting cancer and his health had been poor over the last couple of years and we have discussed this a great length when I saw him at recent matches. He had a very deep love for the club, and they for him too.

I do remember his legendary warm-ups on the touchline, especially his side-steps where I am sure he almost knocked over either a substitute or a linesman, but maybe in my age my memory is becoming foggy. Spoke to him at every game over my 43 years supporting the team; his length of support dwarf's mine substantially.

He will always be a legend in my eyes. I was sent to the washroom by sympathetic colleagues today as I was crying at my work desk when I heard the news - I only heard it from a colleague this morning. I hope the club does him justice - 1 minutes applause maybe, or one minute chanting Zigga Zagga Zigga Zagga Ken Palin!!!!!

Rest in peace my pal, and my deepest sympathy to his family. I do hope they read this and understand how he was held in such high regard.

I  encountered Kenny the first time I entered ML, a little over 40 yaears ago.  He seemed, immediately, to be a larger than life character who knew, and was known, by everyone.  The expressions of condolence I’ve read here are but a fraction of the many who will be sad to hear this news.  He embodied a lot of the reasons why I chose to align myself to this club and no other.  His notoriety and the affection he drew, spanned generations; it was my young son who told me the news, he was saddened too as Kenny had made an impression on him.  RIP Kenny.  Sadly missed, never forgotten.

Thanks for all the info, I am going to go to the funeral. I know there is a private family do at the Cremotorium, but I would like t go to the church and the wake at Altrincham CSH. I assume we are ok going to the church.

I have known the fella since my first game V Buxton - 06 Oct 74. Always had loads of time for Kenny, and we chatted whenever we met. He still says 'Hiya Mate' from his place in heaven.

hi Steve this is how I read it that all welcome at the Methodist church

He was a very popular person in and out of the club hence the private arrangements as well I imagine so the family can have some privacy

What a turnout for a legend.
He was Mr Altrincham. Loved by many.
It was said between 400-600, at the Methodist Church.

Leaning on a lamp post at the Church, & and Old McDonalds farm at the club.
Kenny, you were a one off.
You had the BEST send off.
Always in our heart.

What a great afternoon  I had yesterday at both the funeral and the wake at the ground.

Kenny was a lovely local character, was very funny but always great to have a chat to. I remember my first game back after being ill last year. I was unable to stand up, and sat with him in the first half just chinwagging with him about our various ailments and hospital visits. I thank god for every moment I have spent with him over the 43 years I have been watching Alty, our enjoyable chats and I do not remember seeing him without a smile on his face, ever. I will miss his greeting of Hiya mate, and even though I love this club to bits, Kenny will be sadly missed.

The funeral showed how much he was loved by everybody he knew, we all had our lives made that little bit better by Kenny for having knowing him, that includes me.

I would love the club to give him a permanent honour of some sort, but more than anything else, win the title this season for his memory.

Rest in peace pal, and thanks for coming into my life and making it that much brighter.
