Title: Stourbridge- Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on February 26, 2018, 07:35:42 AM
Alty 1/2
Draw 3/1
Stourbridge 4/1

Weather permitting a win tomorrow with Warrington at Grantham and shaw lane at Nantwich could be a key result. All three games could be under threat due to the snow but we know how rarely Alty gets hit by snow fall. Saturday was a disappointment because we got ourselves in a position to have the game won, but Ashton’s record speaks for itself. A win could see us well clear of the pack again as Grantham really need to beat Warrington, we’re the best team by a country mile, let’s get this league won.

Given we can't fully cover the pitch, I think the ground staff have got their work cut out getting this game on.

Can't imagine it's going to be a fun one for the players or supporters.

Aren't the covers different for frost and rain ?frozen pitch most likely reason for the game being off.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if we can get this game on.

If the game goes ahead the big call is Jones or Hannigan. Dont think Jones has done much wrong but I feel we're tighter with Harrison and Hannigan.
Goes without saying Densmore starts if fit.

Alty 2-0 stourbridge. Poole Hulme

2-1 home win over Buxton on Saturday was their first since New Year's Day (only 2 points from 15 in that run), and they've slumped to 15th.  They have a good few games to catch up and will possibly get a top half finish.

We can't afford to underrate a side that scored 5 at Warrington however. This will not be a pushover.

2-1 Alty (Hulme, Harrop)

Attendance 753

BBC Weather forecast for Alty below freezing from about 7pm this evening thru 10am tomorrow & not rising above 1 degree during the day. I think we'll do well to get this game on. Currently snowing up here, by the way!

I'd imagine there will be a frozen area in front of the main stand that, given tomorrow's forecast, has very little chance of becoming playable.

Snowing gently in Altrincham now. Not sticking yet, but with the forecast as it is I'm starting to feel pessimistic.

Time for a winter break debate me thinks

Warrington v Winsford (CSC) tonight is subject to a 5.30 inspection. Given that I would suspect (and hope) that an early inspection will be called for our place tomorrow.

Snowmageddon overnight. Postponement is a formality now, surely.

Thawing snow = wet pitch.

If the call goes out for volunteers to remove the snow rather than let it melt into the pitch would it be playable?

We've had two or three people offer to help on Twitter already.

Are there any other people at the ground who could help (apart from the people like Rowley Fordy etc who will be doing it already)?

It would be perfectly playable if we had bothered to remove the snow

winter break we are having one tonights off and the prospects for Saturday don't look great, something needs to be done though. Starting the season earlier or finnishing later might have contractual or financial issues for some clubs

What's a winter break going to achieve? There's a possibility of winter weather anywhere from November to March. This way you have the break when its required ie. when the games can't go ahead. The season is plenty long enough to get the games played.

Following a pitch inspection tonight's game at home to Stourbridge has had to be postponed because of a partly frozen playing surface. This decision comes despite hard work by the groundsman and volunteers to make the pitch playable. Our next scheduled game is at Shaw Lane AFC on Saturday.

I'd say it would be advisable to have a contingency plan for your Saturday afternoon's entertainment....

clearly a call for volunteers to bring hairdryers and cars to thaw the pitch out would have helped......but would have been called tinpot by others.

When will the board get a grip of this weather?

I'm sure the ground staff worked hard but there were absolutely loads of cars at the ground today and it didn't seem to be the nursery. Seemed to be lads in Alty tracksuits knocking about. Could they not have helped?
