Title: tinpot cup
Post by: Jezza on October 16, 2017, 04:12:15 PM
should we just play the reserve side?

Not even that bothered about the trophy...keen to have a bit of a run...will absolutely insist PP wins it next year....as long as we also reach the play offs as well ;D ;D ;D

No question we should use a reserve team, hopefully they play well but fixture congestion maybe a factor come april, I'd rather have a run in the trophy

Mix of squad players and reserve/youth.

Id make sure that Densmore, Jones, Miller Sheridan and Amis if fit got some game time, other than that go with the usual team. Poole should start too, he's already missed quite a few games with injury. Don't buy into this tiredness stuff. They'd be training on a Tuesday anyway.

All of Saturday's bench (Dens, Jones, Sheridan, Miller and Peers) can start.

The rest can be youth players with maybe some other first teamers on the bench.

I was a bit torn about Poole. I agree he's fresh enough to play but I'd hate for him to pick up a knock - and in terms of match fitness I think he's up to speed now anyway. I wouldn't risk him.

Team might be something like this -
Deasy; Densmore, Bembo-Leta, Jones, Short; Sheridan, Harrop, Miller, Davis, Peers; Amis.
If Amis not fit enough to be considered, play Harrop & Peers forward & draft in another reserve for midfield?
Bench from reserves.
Hannigan must not play whatever the degree of his injury on Saturday; Harrison deserves a rest, as do Moult & Hulme; Johnston & Poole should be rested if at all possible; Richman ought not to be risked given that he's already picked up four bookings - some of them harsh. I assume Taylor & Disney remain long-term injured.
I assume there will be some sort of regulation regarding number of 'first-team' players who have to be named in the squad but can't find any rules for the competition on the League website.
When we played Ashton in the League Cup at their place in 2004 (& lost 6-2) the 'crowd' was 177. Will that be beaten tomorrow?

Don't think Amiss is anywhere near fit. What happened to Darius Palmer?

Tolani Omotola ?

Darius Palma has been playing in the reserves this season,  although he didn't play on Saturday. However, Laurence Taylor and Max Harrop did, and Taylor scored in their rare win, so I would hope and expect them both to be involved tomorrow. No sign of Tolani Omatola, though, which does seem odd.

Harry Cain is a regular for Prescott Cabels

Would play our strongest team (without risking injuries). Think this team is a momentum team, and we currently have it. Just a guess of course, but I wouldn't be writing games off with this team

See tonight's match programme, Ian!

Did he earn that swan song appearance or just merely achieve it?  ;)

Yeh I think there's some merit in this. I certainly think Ashton will be a useful barometer of where we are as they'll be a Test and won't roll over like a couple of teams had so far.

However, Saturday is a top of the table clash so I expect PP will err on the side of caution.

What's wrong with Hannigan now?...

Got kicked just before half time Saturday. Tried to start second half but was in obvious discomfort.

win on pens  wonder how many changes Ashton made?, I would play a similar team in the trophy.

1 enforced I believe.

A decent performance tonight. Sean Miller looked back to his self, just faded towards the end as not match fit. Young right back Jones looked accomplished, and good to see Lawrence get a good runout. The introduction of the youth team players was a joy to watch. Played with confidence, the Parkinson style of football and were direct. If Mason Walsh goes down earlier he wins the penalty, but made a meal of it after getting away from the defender and was rightly booked. Omatola looked in desperate need of match practice.

Parkinson wins penalty shootouts. Water in to wine next?

EDIT: Big shout out to Max Harrop who was outstanding today, especially in the first half when he was a real nuisance to them, and took his goal very well. Added bite to a young midfield when Sheridan and Taylor were subbed and he was asked to play deeper. Not his position but slotted in well.

Superb entertainment. Thoroughly deserved win. Thought Jones and Walsh were excellent.

Well done Alty. Onwards and upwards..

My dose of Tues night footy was watching Shrewsbury batter Bristol Rovers 4-0
They were very pleasant on the eye and I can see why they are top of the league.

Hour and half drive to watch Alty or 2 min drive to watch Shrewsbury each week.?

Its a no brainer for me.
See you folks at Warrington next Saturday.

C'mon Alty

I had £20 on Shrewsbury at an unbelievably generous 2-1.

Nice touch... to be fair to "The Gas" they played well in the second half... they also bought about 500 fans with them... I really do miss seeing the away end full of away fans at The JDS nowadays...
