Title: WhatsApp launches again!
Post by: andrewflynn on September 19, 2017, 05:55:38 PM
Afternoon all.

"We are always looking for ways to help expand the club’s communication and marketing strategy. So, it is with pleasure that we can announce the launch of an official Altrincham FC WhatsApp news service.

Those who remember the days of Club Call will be no stranger to this sort of idea. It acts to provide short, snappy bulletins of information straight to your phone. Free of charge. Another way of keeping you connected by bringing the news directly to you.

The initiative is a collaboration between the club’s social media volunteers Andrew Flynn and Jack Jolly, plus recently-appointed Supporter Liaison Officer, Mike Reeves, who ran a successful fortnight trial period for a selection of Altrincham fans.

The trio will be manning the service, and this opens an easy channel of communication between the fans and an SLO as we invite you to message the account with any queries you may have. They can then be addressed accordingly.

To sign up:

1. Download WhatsApp from your phone’s App Store
2. Add 07849 328460 to your phone contacts
3. Save the number as Altrincham FC, or similar
4. Using WhatsApp, text NEWS to your new WhatsApp contact

We’ll do the rest!

Tonight's match programme sees Bill Waterson provide further comments on the launch of the WhatsApp service."

Lots of work has gone into getting this off the ground before clubs much bigger get involved. Let us know what you think over the coming month or so!

What a night to launch it. Apologises for anyone who joined us mid game and received a slow confirmation text.

80 people signed up last night which was great. We've set a target of 200

Not being at the game,I thought it was fantastic. I got the updates before JL had them on the matchday page.

I think this is a great initiative, a really modern and proactive way to promote the club and communicate with the fans. Well done those involved.

Agree with the above - a great initiative. Especially useful if you're not able to sit refreshing the matchday updates page or listen to RR. The score updates are pretty much instantaneous and depending on your phone, you'll get an immediate popup alert.

Didn't work for me
Worked well enough for me to consider shutting off Twitter.

Was sat in a lawyers meeting in NYC yesterday, happily watching the scores come through on my WhatsApp. Brightened up what would otherwise have been a dull few hours :)

Many thanks to those providing the service - its really appreciated !!

A message has just gone out on the Broadcast. If you haven't received it, you aren't currently signed up to the service and need to message again.

At our meeting today, the board was entirely positive in their feedback around this.  We have the best social media team in non league football by far; and this initiative puts us ahead of many Football League clubs.  And we are ready to pick up our next challenge - watch this space.

Superb initiative this-was buzzing sat in a pub in Shoreditch last night as my phone kept vibrating with another goal alert. Bravo to the club for setting this up.

I hope the phone wasn't in your trouser pocket, or you could have been had up at Bow Street Magistrates this morning  ;D

We've reached 120 subscribes in 24 hours. We've set a target of 250.

A quick thank you must go to Bill and Mike for their work.

As time moves on, we'll look to introduce a preference setting

In under 3 weeks we have hit our original target of 250, and now have 256 subscribers.

We've set a target of 500. We'd love all negative feedback. Not much we can do with the positive kind :)

Very minor criticism: Could you include the attendance when you give the final score?

Fantastic service all round - it's much appreciated.

It would also be great if you could list the subs with the team announcement.

Attendance and subs are fine and we should be able to include.
