Title: Barwell - Match thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on September 07, 2017, 06:50:27 AM
Barwell - 6/4
Draw - 11/4
Alty - 5/4

Hope Harrison, Poole and the others with slight injury concerns are ok for Saturday

Don't know quite what team I'd pick until knowing who's fit. The new lad could slot straight in at right back but don't have a concern over dens in that position if fully fit. I wonder if Liam Hardy at Buxton is tied in to a contract?

Same starting formation and 11 as Tuesday, with the exception of swapping Harrop for Peers.

Hoping to get there

Agreed just Harrop for Peers. Poole and Harrison can join the fray from the bench if they're properly recovered. I'm definitely there.

Poole for Peers if we're confident about him being OK - I trust PP to make sure he's 100% before making such a decision obviously.

Actually by that token I'd have Harrison in for Hannigan as well. The latter can replace Short if he starts blowing after an hour or so.

Tight result aside, PP's main objective in resting the pair of them on Tuesday worked a treat (hopefully).

Buxton 0-2 Mickleover last night. A win today could see us possible break into the top five, as it could for barwell. A big week this, a win today and at Workington on Tuesday who have had a very slow start could really see us make some headway before saturdays cup tie.

What all you top top Alti supporters have to remember is that these teams (like Abbey Hey, Coaville, Whitby, Barwell and all the rest) aren't going to lie down and let you rub their bellies every week.  They want to win just like we do.  Trust Phil the Power and Sorvs and their top support team to gain promotion and hopefully a good FA cup / or FA Trophy run...........SBL

We do realise this and wouldn't expect any team to be in awe of us, we've been relegated two years on the bounce ffs

Three well deserved points. We were a class ahead of Barwell, who tried to make up for a lack of footballing prowess with unnecessary physicality. This was assisted by the worst referee I've seen since the useless Mr.Salisbury four years ago (that half wit is actually on the League list now !)

Josh Hancock's free kick was worthy of a higher setting. I thought Jordan Hulme was outstanding and I'm not surprised he was gutted to have his goal chalked off. Steady debut from Joel Bembo-Leta.

BUT......we have to cure this habit of losing concentration for five minutes at a time. A half decent side would have extracted a greater toll than Kyle Perry's goal.

Finally, if that lot scored 6 at Sutton Coldfield, then THEY must be absolutely atrocious.

As your email address contains the surname 'Hancock', I'll take a wild stab that there's an outside chance that you may just be related to one of Alty's current squad...?

That was a real war today, a war we won by being streets ahead of barwell ability wise. I won't let the worst refereeing display I've ever seen in 30 years that I doubt will ever be beaten over shadow it. We showed a lot of character today the way they went about the game, we kept our heads in the main and should have had the game wrapped up before they got one back. You can see how they will get points this season and others will come unstuck there. A really decent showing and a marker that we can mix it with those that want a fight. On to Tuesday now

Without doubt the worse footbaling team I've seen in a long time. Didn't think we played sparkling today, but did a job. Huge credit to Jones and Harrison who won virtually every header. Can't be easy for Harrop playing on the right, but he was magnificent first half.

The 3 officials were wank and have no protection when we needed it most.

As for their 5, a bigger sh*thouse ive not seen

Worse footballing team in a long time? Where were you last season? We were the worst in nine divisions!

Their 5 was an oaf, we Will probably meet more of his type in this league.

Pretty much this really.

We worked really hard for that in what was a real battle in terrible conditions at times.  It was good to see that we can do this side of things as well as it's going to be needed.  I thought the whole team played their part today and Harrop was a real handful and Bembo-leta was big and strong. He could have been seriously injured by that kick to his back in the first half, an awful challenge.

Special mention for Jordan Hulme who worked his tripe off and also Jake Moult (who I've been critical of recently) who had a great game I thought.

We should be better than Barwell but it doesn't always work out like that. Today we were and it was great to get the points.

One thing I noticed from Mike Ripleys pics is the team spirit that seems to be growing...his pics are here - https://www.flickr.com/photos/michaelripleyphotography/36957883792/in/album-72157688816473095/

Barwell's match report doesn't mention any of the, er, more agricultural challenges, but it does state that the 100 or so away supporters made a difference to the match, giving the team a boost. Nice to be recognised!

Prob a fair estimate - I know it's an old joke but I think they prob CAN name most of their fans. Friendly club and bar by the way.

Leicester were at home at 3pm which must hit them hard.

I've a lot of respect for clubs like Barwell (without patting them on the head) for even getting any sort of team out on 130-150 fans.  It must be a real catch 22 between wanting to try and play football and not being able to do it.

I've enjoyed both visits there although the aggregate score has clearly helped.

That's very true. It's worth remembering that it's an achievement, again without being patronising, for some of our opponents, such as Barwell, to compete at this level, which they clearly have done for a few seasons.
