Title: PP on holiday!!!????
Post by: Jezza on July 25, 2017, 01:08:37 PM
Very surprised considering the stick Lee Sinnot took for going on holiday in pre season......how very dare he?  ;D ;D ;D

However now we can concentrate on the major question of PPs reign......

Will he be wearing a suit or a tracksuit in the dugout in the proper season????

Personally I'm happy with the tracksuit as long as he dons a suit and club tie for the post match interviews....

Sounds like he should be back tonight, his assistant seems to have done a good job at Rhyl

I am a little uncomfortable with the constant referral to our current league as 'pub' or 'parks' football. It is more than a tad disrespectful to the clubs plying their trade at this level. We are where we deserve to be (how and why we have ended up here is an entirely different matter).

I hated the likes of Stockport fans giving it the big time charlie and looking down their noses on us and I'd like to think we are a bit classier than that. I want out of this league at the first opportunity and I don't think we should have been allowed to slip to this level, but whilst we are here surely we should show some level of respect?

I agree....although I found stockport fans a humble lot baffled by their demise yet not really playing the billy big bollox.

And some surprisingly lovely set ups at kidsgrove and rhyl...hardly pub pitches....

The bookies favourites for the title have had to move the opening day fixture to the Sunday because people are playing cricket on the pitch on the Saturday. That's parks football mate

Most of the teams in this league are established names, playing at decent enough grounds for the level they are at or one above.  It isn't right to pick on the basket case of Shaw Lane as a yardstick.

If this is parks football, what is the league below?

People would call it parks football if we wasn't in it

It's Stourbridge that play on a cricket pitch (and Matlock and Coalville) shaw lane are playing at an ncel division 2 ground

On the whole they may well have been, but a significant number of them on the Conference North forum were far from that.

Maybe it's the mindset we need tho. We spent far too long looking up at the big boys, calling them out for looking  down on us and being part time and proud. Whilst we were doing that the club took their eye off the ball and we've sunk like a stone because of it.

Make no mistake compared to Bristol Rovers a couple of years ago Mickleover Sports is pub football. Where do we want to belong as a club and fans of a club? Not here please.

We are now playing at a level where mid season holidays are probably the norm, so the manager swanning off two weeks before the season starts isn't considered a big deal anymore.

Totally agree.

I've never really had a problem with Stockport fans suggesting that the Conf North league is below them as a football club. It is.

Exactly the same with us now, and (as long as we stay professional on-the-pitch) there's no reason for us to be shy about it.

I don't want things to get daft here. There's hundreds of part time clubs, not what makes us proud of Alty fc.

We've been overshadowed by Fylde, it's time to wake up.

I actually agreed with your initial post.

Mind you, I don't think that citing moneybags Fylde was the best example that you could have selected.

The fact that we've been overshadowed by Curzon Ashton says it all.

Wrong on every count for me. As I said, we should never have been in a situation that saw us slip to this level, but we are.....and I still don't see the need to call it pub/park football.....I don't want to be at this level anymore than anyone else. I don't think Conf National is pub league and yet you'll find plenty of fans of premiership clubs who regard it as such...does that make it right?

The point is that Fylde found money and we have let things pass by.

The fact we languish below Curzon as you quite rightly point out is very telling. We cruised into a thunder storm. This ship needs a new captain not just a new heading.

I fully accept the mess Rowley has got us in but we're still along way off pub/park football. The Evostick Premier league is still semi professional football of a standard where players still get paid more than expenses. That doesn't mean to say I want to be at this level more than one season!

When I worked in Stockport twenty years ago the County fans there took a very billy big bollocks attitude to my supporting Altrincham. I only drew any grudging respect because I watched them home and away and had a season ticket.

I work  in Stockport  now, where my boss is a Hereford supporter, but get nothing like that. Maybe I work with more decent people, or maybe those seasons where County were actually below us have had an effect.

I just cringe at this Billy Big Bollocks attitude, as you put it so well, based on supposed past glories from either ourselves or others.

County were a third division/League one team in those days. Altrincham were in the Unibond.

No-one plays on a park or for a team affiliated with a pub at this level.  So it isn't pub/parks football.  I'm not sure how that can be argued to be honest?

Doesn't mean it isn't a horrible level to be at or something anyone with an ounce of civic pride should be happy with.

Based on the NWCL games & teams that I have seen, there is a big difference between that league & Sunday/park/pub football.......a big difference.

Some NWCL play on Sundays, not most.

There are two sides to this, aren't there? The question of facilities and that of standards.

On facilities, it is just silly to say that clubs at our level play on parks or at the back of a pub or somewhere. As Brian said, it's only when you get to four divisions below  in the  Manchester or Cheshire League that you start to get clubs who may play on a railed off pitch in a public recreation area, or at a college, but even there plenty of clubs have private enclosed grounds.

On playing standards , "Sunday League" covers a massive range. Some leading clubs pay their players, I believe,  although I am not sure quite how "official" that is.  Also, didn't John King spot Mark Maddox playing for A3 in the Liverpool Business Houses Sunday League (I think I have got the club and league right)? Should we have refused him with a patronising sniff of "Sunday League"?

The two are not mutually exclusive.
You can be dissappointed with how we have sunk so low whilst at the same time looking forward to the opportunity of escaping this league. Especially when it seems that we have a squad which might be capable of realising those dreams.

There is nothing enjoyable about seeing the club languish in the evostick league, even if we were to win every game. Its an embarrassment

I guess its all about how you view the club? Small time views like yours are part of the reason we got into this mess in the first place. No doubt your pro Rowley and think we've been punching above our weight for years as well

Yet again you've missed the point. You make a habit of it.

The fact of our lowly status can't be ignored, but it's the prospect of NOT languishing at that level, and then continuing to progress, which encourages the more sane among us. I actually feel optimistic, and that's rare for me !

It's called having a glass half full mentality, which we're more than entitled to have.

You never know, dropping to this level MIGHT be the reality call we needed - it certainly did the likes of Man City, Southampton and Leicester no harm (albeit at a different level of course).

And no, I'm not 'Pro-Rowley' I think he was out of his depth when his first crisis arrived. If we could change the leadership and have him looking after the community side, that's the best solution for all parties.

You can't tell people what they find enjoyable though surely?  You can only comment on what you would find enjoyable and you've made that clear.

No one should be derided for enjoying their football team winning though, I really hope we don't have a season of that on here.

Surely it works boths way, we can't mock people for enjoying the team winning, then we shouldnt be mocking someone for being unhappy about next season. Fair's fair right?

I'm not happy in the slightest about being at our lowest level. I'm looking forward to this being the start of a new dawn (potentially).

People shouldnt be excited about the season, but people should be excited about the team Phill is putting together and the future we could have if it goes to plan

I can see both sides here. People are sick of the misery of losing week in week out. We want to see goals and a fight at the right end of the table. Not even a fight if possible. Cruise out of this league at the top first time of asking. We want to see players complete passes and look arsed for 90 minutes and add to that look like they care about playing for Alty. So far it looks like we'll get that and that's a bloody great big relief!

On the other hand it doesn't mask the fact that we are playing at the lowest level in our history for no reason other than poor decisions by the board. That alone warrants change. Most grounds we visit this season will have one side of the pitch developed for spectators and average gates akin to what we get in the CSC. Don't be alarmed if a fair few of us want to call it a pub league because it's not as far off as it should be for Altrincham FC and I won't be happy until we're we'll shot of it. In the meantime hopefully we'll have some stuff to cheer about and the board will make necessary changes to ensure we never come back. And i mean more than an outdated five year plan.
