The pre-Rowley era for me. The Bernard Taylor and Gerry Berman years were fantastic and as a fan we had some great times.

agreed they were always eventful with some big signings.  Wasn't Keith Russell the only player we ever paid money for ?

the ones that always come to mind when i discuss with other fans what my best moments as an alty fan have been are probably....

1) the whole day of the 3-0 win over V*cs on boxing day (down to 10 men as well)

2) celebrating the winning goal away to v*cs the year later (the one with the photo we all love to share on social media in darker days to remind us why we do this)

----a theme seems to be developing-----

3) Barnsley, from the game it's self (best atmosphere i have been part of in a non playoff game) to the 30-40 minute rendition of "when jimmy goes marching down the wing" in the pub post match....good day

may go dig out that V*cs game DVD and watch it again.....

Sheffield United at Moss Lane - we absolutely humbled the team who went on to win the 4th Division title that year

Our first title win at Gravesend - I doubted all the way up to the final whistle of the final game that we would pull it off

Jeff Johnson's equaliser at Spurs - no less than we deserved

Barnsley has to top it for me, organising a £120 whip around to put on us to win at 9/2 set us up for an unforgettable night. I'll echo the late winner at Northwich and giving their fans some of that during the celebrations, as a young lad that was one of my first away games and I'll always remember it. Going away from particular matches, there was a summer when about five or six of us went down to Moss Lane and repainted the red on the pitch-side fencing. That was a good day.

Good topic Wayne, a little reminder for many of what we are about.

In recent times, it's got to be Guiseley for the sheer drama, the fact we never ever do that and that 4,600 turned up out of the blue and we didn't let them down.  Both games against Hednesford were great as well.

James Lawries goal against Macc was wonderful as well.

Stoke playoff was great

I loved winning the league cup at Chestefield even though it was only the league cup, just seemed like a special night.

Going back further, the last minute winner against Southport that took us to Tottenham.

Every bit of the Tottenham 1995 day, from celebrating the draw in 42nd Street to seeing the lads run out on the pitch.

The 4-0 FA cup win against Macc in 1988 is one of my earliest memories - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32edBVC-7-g

The 3-0 win in 1990 against Macc in the FA Cup was special as well.

Beating the real Chester with the Freeman goal was a great night as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6ffVMVmonY

For me though it has to be Altrincham 4  Barnet 1.  Erase what happened after that to marvel at Showler and the whole team, everything coming together at once and spanking Stan Flashmens men.  Still the greatest DVD of all time after The Shawshank Redemption.

I've missed loads as well...

The equaliser at Spurs and the awaybwin atvRochdale which was our first real giant killing.

The revival of Alty under White and Swales with the recruitment of Tommy Banks, Ernie Taylor, Paddy Falange, Charlie Mitten etc......they brought a touch of glamour to the club.

Oh Blimey far far too may to mention. I'm incredibly lucky to be one of that vintage to have started supporting the team in in the early 70s, so saw all those cup wins and went to Goodison, Anfield, Old Trafford and White Hart Lane etc. Of course that means I've seen some rough times too, like in 1995 with the formation of SAFE (I designed the logo and printed those t shirts) and so was at that Civil Service Club meeting that convinced John King to 'negotiate' with Mr Maunders that secured our future. I think my fondest memory was the Stoke play off victory, just 10 years after 'Ridgeway Road' when we were days from going under and a few months from when we were mid table in the Unibond playing in front of 450. We're facing some tough days ahead of us now, maybe the toughest, but we've got the right stuff to get through it. How's that for positive?

I was talking to Stuart Coburn about this the other day, and as odd as it seems, the 1-0 win over V*cs in the CSC final at Witton Albion in '99 really sparked something in a young 7 year old lad.You won't get 1000+ at a CSC final these days. That, and being told by Leroy Chambers on the pitch at Guiseley after we won the league that it was for me. That's what this club is about.

Obviously Nuneaton, Kettering and then Eastbourne at the Britannia was an amazing journey.

Colin Potts free kick in a 4-2 win away at Dagenham in a thunderstorm (he meant it).

The 5-0 home win against Cambridge when James Robinson absolutely lit up the pitch.

Millwall and THAT Senior goal (wonder what he's up to these days).

1-0 away at Wrexham against the odds.

Chris Senior chasing a lost cause and belly sliding about 30 yards in front of the home fans on the pop side with the biggest grin on his face,in a lightening storm that resulted in the players going off. (Kiddy at home).

Guiseley. Just wow.

Lawrie V Macc.

Barnsley. What a day.

Colchester. Watching Jake Moults audacious lob after 3 minutes sail into the top corner. Then nearly going on to win it in the 92nd and then going up the other end and scoring the winner in the 93rd. I was proud to be an Altrincham fan leaving that stadium.

This is what Altrincham is all about. This is my club and these are my memories. It's actually quite emotional wriing all of this, as I haven't been proud to be an Altrincham fan for over 18 months. Thanks for making me look back on the good times Alty.fc. To use the phrase of a well known forum poster... "We Will Overcome."

As a lad I used to love the midweek away games to the likes of Enfield, Barnet and Wealdstone.  Always seemed to be loads of Alty and the team had the ability to match their swagger.

Vic's games.

Spurs.
Liverpool.
Blackpool.
Blackpool.
Sheff Utd.
Wembley.

Going to Tow Law.

A ref at Spennymoor who absolutely ruled the park with his size, mauled up face and arms the size of pylons. Happy Days.

Barnet 4-1 (1991)
Merthyr Tydfil 9-2 (1991)
Chester 2-0 (1992)
Winning 3-2 at Macc in the snow (1996)
Playoff final at Stoke (2005)

Also many fond memories from my late teens/early 20's of visiting Bernard in his office at the ground. Always such great times and remember having some really good laughs.

Sheffield Utd at home was great as someone else has alluded to - wasn't backs against the wall that game, steam rollered them including a great long range goal from Graham Heathcote (I think)

Recent play off victories and play off semis also stick out - Val Owen goal at Kettering.

Home game with Orient in the FA Cup around 80/81 for the shear number of folk inside Moss Lane - must have been 7k+?

Some of the oddest and funniest things have happened watching alty...................

Dagenham away , leaving a respected member of the firm on the m25 and he proving what a god like person he is getting to the match before the bus.

Yeovil away when kingy and heathcote had to come around to the away end and tell the fans to stop dicking around as they might abandon tha match and we were 2 up at the time (big vanvader swinging from the goalpost will always be stuck in my mind)

Preston away was odd but fun except for leaving the pub via the window

Bromsgrove away always was a great day out and upsetting the kidderminster party when we beat them when they won the league.

There are plenty of others these are just some of the more bizarre ones(not forgetting welwyn garden city fiasco)

Loads of the FA Cup games stand out in the memory - particularly those against the then 'first division' teams - One of my earliest memories was walking along Stanley Park (everton away) as a youngster and seeing all the alty supporters coaches - seemed a never ending queue of them - it made me feel part of something brilliant, alty getting battered at the start of the game, everton hitting the post and bar three times (I think) and the John Hughes scoring against the run of play to put us in the lead (I think we scored first - I might be wrong with that but its a long time ago!)
As somebody else said the Barnet game was a fantastic game - Paul showler gave one of the best ever performances in an alty shirt - in my opinion anyway
One of the oddest but most memorable was Mossley at home (when Mossley were a top class outfit)  Stan Allan and Eamon O'Keefe getting sent off (stan provoking him into) and coming back from 4-1 down with 5 minutes to go and winning 5-4, think Kingy scored a couple of headers in the comeback
We had some really class sides back then and were the first choice for all the top part time players - how times change!
happy days - great players and real characters

Loads of top memories of mine already mentioned on here!! My best season as an Alty fan is definitely the nearly promoted season of the 4-1 against Barnet. 9-2 v Merthyr(would've been more id it wasn't for Gary Wager in the Merthyr net) followed by 6-2 at Boston in midweek and Kenny McK last minute winner at home to Kettering! In my younger days before SatNav turning up at Welwyn Garden City for an away match against Welling(my step dad miss heard me when I asked for directions) then the car broke down so we had a day on the piss instead! Another one before technology was jumping off the train at Dover into 3ft of snow! Game called off and another weekend on the piss! Still went back in midweek on a minibus for the rearranged fixture.

I was on the Golf Road that night. Kingy was basically blocking the keeper and then keeled over.  What is the definitive truth, kneed in the cods or play acting?

Not so happy but funny was Wycombe away in 1990 in my first non Northwich away game with Jimmy and Daz (and possibly Ste Groves?).

Ste asking what the "nogulf war" was when seeing it on the graffiti by the side of the train line and seeing my favourite bit of graffiti ever (don't derail the thread with favourite graffiti  ;) ) which said "Tojo the Dwarf".  Laughing at whether Tojo himself had wrote it or it was a heckle.

The taxi driver took us to Loakes Park from the station, we thought it was quiet for 2:30 when we realised that this was the old ground and not the new one they had just moved to!  Cheeky bastard charged us as a new fare as well for getting back in!

Lost 3-0 I think but didn't lose again for the next 28 games if I remember rightly.  As if that was nearly 27 years ago!

The 1990-91 and 1994-95 season gave me the best years of my life and memories I'll have forever.

Woking away when Colin Little scored was quite a weekend too! 4/5 dayer in fact

Lots of good memories we could promise  apart from a bad day at the office
An alty team that would entertain and be tough to beat I've met the best fans in football
At moss lane over my 30 years, after a free ticket from school I've spent ££££££££ since
But it was worth  every penny ,but now I fear it's over for me .

That Saturday and Sunday were two of the most pissed up days of my life. Top weekend! :)

This game. James Lawrie was on fire, Reeves bagged a hattrick and even Twiss looked a decent player!

if we went back to only showing our chances and goals the highlights would be pointless 😂😂

Well, if you enjoy watching Alty annihilate Boston United (and, let's be honest, who on here doesn't?), then this superb performance is pure heaven:

It was indeed. Stood on the Golf Road that day. Stunning goal. I don't recall seeing a better individual goal live. Thank you Duncan. Thank you.

For sheer drama I suppose its Wilkos goal in the playoff final, though the Kettering own goal in the earlier playoff is well up there too.

I recall a brilliant goal by Carmody against Southport into the top corner it seemed to take forever to fly in

The sometimes overlooked Blackpool wins were also terrific. We made them look bloody silly beating them on their own pitch two years running. It wasn't complacency second time round, there was some luck but there was stacks of determination too. It was a brilliant day.

Today marks the 39th anniversary of Mal Bailey's unforgettable goal at Canal Street which secured Alty's first visit to Wembley.

Halcyon days, indeed.
