Title: New keeper signed
Post by: ShropshireAlty on March 03, 2017, 04:59:29 PM
"Altrincham's Press and Media Officer, John Edwards, writes that "Matt Doughty has moved to fill the gap left by Tim Deasy's injury by signing experienced former Crewe and Port Vale keeper Stuart Tomlinson."

More details on the main site.

Welcome to Alty Stuart.

Trying to work out when he actually last played

5th May 2013, by the look of things (I note that Marcus Holness played in the same Burton Albion team as him in this fixture):

I can only presume that Kendo Nagasaki is unavailable.

On the premise that this Tomlinson chap makes his Alty debut at Telford on Saturday, he will become the 53rd different player that we have used in all competitions to date during this utterly bizarre season.

Couldn't care less what his background is.

The more pressing issue is why are the 3 amigo's being allowed to spend more money on a hopeless situation.

At this stage they may aswell play this kid Jones and give him the chance to show what he can do. On the flipside, if these 3 clowns don't trust Jones to cope with starting football games at this level then he shouldn't be at the club in the first place.

In fact Mr Perry was also a wrestler, albeit I doubt he was as good as this fella.....................cannot help noticing that Perry has scored a few this season for Stafford and Walshaw scores for fun in the Glue North

Would have Walshaw back tomorrow

GR: Isn't he a wrestler now Matt?
MD: Yeah but his stats are insane!
GR: Oh that sounds alright, tell me more
MD: He said if I didn't give him a chance he'd reveal the turnbuckle!
GR: Someone get the contract template out we need to keep Matt safe for next season!

I notice that the announcement of his signing subtly fails to mention that his switch to being a failed wrestler followed his 2013 retirement from football......due to injury.

So our 53rd player of the season is a crock who hasn't played for over three years. F*****g marvellous.

Isn't it rich, isn't it queer.....losing my timing this late in my career. An oblique reference to Damien Reeves ?. "Send in the Clowns" is definitely our song this season.

USED to be a quality keeper. The fact he retired through injury and hasn't played for 3 years is a minor worry though 😉

Agreed, if we we're a proper football team, but we are not. This is our 53rd player, almost five full teams, in one season. If we were in a relegatin fight or going for a promotion I'd be worried, but we're not. We're down and have been in months so a keeper with no games in three years and an injury causes me no additional worries.

Not sure all this matters bearing in mind where we are. He's an experienced keeper if probably a bit rusty but he's a grown man who will have a physical presence and shouldn't be overawd. You can easily destroy kids by playing them when not ready and the GK position is certainly not for a kid in a physical league. Let's just see how it goes.

Andrew Jones isn't a kid,he's in his mid twenties. If he's not good enough he shouldn't be here but he's a Rowley family member and they look after their own.

But he is a reasonable keeper with 200 + nwcl appearances so for a cheap option on the bench and filling in here and there he's entirely suitable. Think we'd be better of with him and saving our money for next year to be honest

We don't need three keepers - if Tomlinson is fit, able and willing then he is in the pot for two keepers berths next time, with Deasy and Andrew Jones. One has to go.

Agreed we don't need 3 keepers. But AJ is reserve team goalie I believe. So Tomlinson for No1/2 spot perhaps?

If Tomlinson is serious about getting back in to football then he can do much better than the Northern Premier League. He's with us so he can test the water and find his feet again, in my opinion.

A win win situation if we can extend that to next season. Where possible we need to lose as many players with the losing habit as is possible on the proviso they are replaced by better players. If Tomlinson is genuinely willing and able then he probably gets one of my two berths for next season.

Hardly! Deasy made his second debut at home to Stockport, when the caretaker triumvirate were in charge. Presumably, the chairman authorised the signing....

The chairman made the signing, and to think this time last week he said he was going to have greater control over future signings.

I would prefer Mr Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne. We could drop the "c" and it would become quite a fitting team song
