...who would it be?
No one is allowed to say Nicky Clee.
-
" The Dunc "
-
Eddie Hussin.
-
Kingy
-
If the peerless Tunna was otherwise engaged, I would instead opt for Jeff Johnson.
He could play as a central defender, wide midfielder or striker.
-
Jake Moult
-
Duncan , he's scored a cracker on bt sport for England under 21 tonight
-
Paul Showler
-
Val Owen
-
Mick Carmody...we need guts not flair
-
Mark Maddox.
-
Graham Barrow - capable of both frightening the opposition and passing a ball
-
Paddy Mulvey, one of the best wingers we ever had.
Plus Jackie Swindles to knock em in
Happy days.
-
The Chris Timmons and Paul Ellender CB partnership from 98-99.
But just Ellender if pushed.
-
Les Campbell

Didn't you star this exact thread a while back? The answer was then and is now John King.

Possibly. Although the answer could be different under these new, terrible circumstances.
-
John king for 3 reasons
1. Hard as nails and took no sh*t
2. Loved the fans and bled alty
3. Don't need a third the 2 above are the reasons
-
Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of Rye
4 and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie
When the pie was open the birds began to sing
We are alty super Alty we've got jonny king

On current form no question, this lad (clip from today's match)

we still might not win due to letting more than even he can score but that would take more than one player to fix. at least with Dunc back we'd have something to put a smile on our faces
-
For me it has to be Colin Little in his Alty prime. Even at his age now he would probably be one of our better players!
-
Ryan Shotton would certainly tighten us up a bit at the back
-
Bring back Duncan Watmore campaign. He can even bring his own kit with him ;)
Scott Leather anyone?
-
Ricky Harris, Carmo, Eddie Hussin
Any of those.
-
Great names.
-
You want bite? Officially harder than Kingy: Gerry Casey
-
Duncan Watmore.

Before my time, but Jackie Swindells would be my first pick. His goal scoring record in the mid 60's is phenomenal - 82 goals in his first full season at Alty.
Would love to see him as his peak, playing upfront with Reeves. Obviously we'd still concede loads of goals but could always win few games 5-4

Can you define the word in bold please. What on earth does it mean?

I know many on here will find this unbelievable but I propose Kyle Perry!
In my belief getting rid of Kyle was the start of our continuing downfall. From what I'd heard he was fantastic in the dressing room and was a big (no pun intended) factor in the superb team spirit we had a couple of years or so ago.
What compounded it even more was Sinnott signing that w@nker Rankine, who I think destroyed the team spirit within the first month or so of last season and which we've never recovered and is so alarmingly lacking with this team.
I wouldn't actually be against re-signing him now.....Reevesy worked well off him and I'm sure he would offer more than Hobson and Marsh. We can also reunite the Stubblemelt two next year when Masha gets released....hopefully he'll have spent his time in the gym getting fit and would be a superb centre back in the glue league.
-
Good call Cheadle Hulme.
Probably quicker than my suggestion of Gerry Casey too

Jackie was a bit of a poacher though I understand.
So we'd probably stick him on the bench for 3 months...

You're not alone Cheadle Hulme Alty. There were a number of us on Saturday wishing for a Kyle Perry type player.

Definitely a poacher Ballers.....and a great finisher. But these days his lack of pace would have blunted him.

You could always stick a speedy full back up front to help him out.

Sadly I don't think Jackie would have even made it as far as playing for Alty in the modern game and was certainly "of his time", however a superb player and his 6 goals in the Cheshire League Championship clinching game at Chester is something I'll never forget.
-
Slightly off track and I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got my facts wrong but one player I remember having a great impact on a struggling Alty side was Carl Dyson at the tail end of the 87-88 season. As I remember it, Jeff Johnson had taken over from the Tommy Docherty managerial debacle and after a few solid and promising results, the team was in freefall with a 1-4 stuffing at home to Runcorn in the CSC semi 1st leg the lowest point and performance (Nicky Daws debut I think, had a nightmare at fullback with Mark Carter in close opposition). Anyway, I seem to remember Dyson came into the team then and, while he wasn't the best player ever, he was something different and suddenly sparked the team into a decent end of season run and he got a few goals too.
We could also do with a Keith Russell BEFORE he signed for us... top goalscorer when he was on loan to us, as good as Darren Royle once he'd signed a contract...

If you want some of the stuff we desperately need - determination, charachter, strength, commitment and ability for the level then Kyle Perry is absolutely bang on the money right now.
-
Joe Pritchard
-
A fit Brendan Burke or failing that Carmo
-
Considering we are lacking someone in midfield with bite, but also the ability to pick a pass, plus we lack a genuine aerial threat at set pieces Lewis Chalmers would fit all three categories. I don't think he'd be the answer to all of our problems, but I genuinely think it would be a start.
-

Was he ever fit?!
-
Joe Pritchard
With a midfield of Barrow, Pritchard, Carmody, and King, we could afford to keep our present back four since they'd seldom have any work to do !

Play a rush keeper too.

Straight in at number 5: Paul Ellender, and unhesitatingly onto the subs' bench, the moderately great supersub himself, Dickie Landon....

Peak Landon and Reeves would be frightening in this league!
Ellender great shout

it's something we used to try to do years ago . But it's hard work and you can hurt your toes doing it. So we sacked it off
