Title: Lincoln - Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on October 31, 2016, 04:08:32 PM
Lincoln 2/5
Draw 7/2
Alty 7/1

We've overcome higher odds in our time in the cup. All we can do is going there (hopefully with some new additions) and see. Good numbers going by train can only get behind them and hope for the best

Utterly no pressure on us which *might* help but to be fair Lincoln look on fire at the moment and a quick look at their forum suggests a real feel good vibe about the place so even if we were doing well in the league it would be a hell of an ask. As it is maybe a chance for Hannigan and Thomas to begin to build an understanding which will be important in the games to come. I'm looking forward to some good craic with the lads and a decent day on the beers. Anything we achieve on the pitch will be a massive and unexpected bonus.

Use this game for what it is; a game with no pressure on us. It is an opportunity for the expected new players to gel, for some simple things like passing and possession, for some confidence boosting longer passes. If we nick any form of result then that is a massive Brucey bonus.

COME ON ALTY
COME ON ALTY

I'm pretty sure Lincoln's score will have brackets round it, but as York Alty says, it's a game of no pressure and should taken as such. Hopefully there'll be new players, some of whom will be available for this game and hopefully the lads who are no longer arsed, won't feature. We can but hope.

Why does he think we've kept the bulk of last years squad together? Have they not had us watched?

Theyre probably made up enough as it is knowing that they will be lining up against last seasons squad. By half time they'll have had a right shock.

Due to the romance of the cup and the fact that we have some momentum in the cup with 9 scored and 2 conceded i'm going to see a half full glass here and say that the shock will be for us too as Alty steam into a 2 goal lead only to be pegged back late on.

2-2 and we get them back to (2016-2017 FA Cup) fortress Moss Lane for a replay and a rocky path to round 2!

COME ON ALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be so typical of this Alty team over the last couple of years to pick up a result in this type of situation. Then again, it isn't really 'this Alty team' anymore is it  :'(

Perfect scenario. And there is something special about the cup, would love to see us progress into round 2, but the lads have a big task ahead of them. Fingers crossed for 11 men from Alty that would bleed for their team, that's what we need in this match!

I say this with a heavy heart - but my main motivation for going on Saturday is to revisit a few places I last frequented during my PGCE year (1976-7). If we lose the game by less than five I may be going on about a moral victory ... sad, but it's true.

                             Deasy

Patterson   Cyrus Hannigan Thomas  McWilliams

               Richman   Heathcote Moult  Cain

                                        Hobson

It's 5-4-1 with no attacking football in mind. Defend like hero's, Hobson to be only outlet and hopefully win some free-kick.

Depersate times need desperate measures.

Good luck to all.

Why if Deasy is not injured we play a keeper in a FA cup game who has no confidence. Why do managers always make bizarre decisons?

The Lincoln fan doesn't mention the fact they were running it into the corners for the last 10 minutes, and that for the last 20 we gave it a good go, playing solid football on the ground.  Heartened

To be fair Lincoln were totally dominant for 60 minutes and could have been out of sight by the time we rallied and had a bit of a go. Our passing was poor today but I thought by the end of the game we looked to have a bit more scrap and fight in us that has been sadly lacking in recent weeks. We desperately need to put a couple of positive results together now in the league, gain a bit of confidence and see if can get out of this mess. Richman looked a bit more like his old self when he came on today but I'm starting to think John Cyrus needs a few games out. His cock up today was inexcusable in any level of football.

Positive comments from fans who were there against a team who are 2nd in the National league.
Great to hear positivity .

Message for the Lincoln forumites ..  statistics dont win games, the only stat that matters is the one that shows you had scored more goals than we did... who really gives a sh*t if you had loads more shots than we did?

Good luck in the next round...

Considering the quality of the opposition I thought we did OK today. Lincoln would have taken their foot off the gas but all told it was a decent effort. Of the two newbies Lennighan (sp?) looked better than Obeng but its early days. Sorry to say it but Cyrus blunder for the second Lincoln goal was inexcusable. It seems beyond our current players to concentrate for 90 minutes. It's utterly infuriating. It's not even if he had Hannigan or Thomas alongside him telling him what's what it's just a sheer lack of basic common sense. Suicidal balls on the edge of our box.

People like you who have seen much more of us this season have said exactly the same today. He came with promise in the summer but we can't carry on. Whilst Hannigan and Thomas are fit he cannot be in our first XI unless he cuts out the basic errors.

Nah, obeng no 2 looked lively and got stuck in. Lennighan looked unfit and his first touch let him down a bit. Agree about Cyrus- the lad struggles when we push forward and defend a high line. His confidence just isn't there. He makes a mistake then dwells on it. Thought Patterson was immense - that sliding tackle was perfection. Ran the width of the pitch then took the ball so cleanly. Sweet.

We bumped into his old man in the pub pre game as it happens. Apparently the plan was always to give him only 45-60 mins to build up how match fitness. He looked decent whilst he was on and hopefully now this can be the start of a long run for him. With him in the team I think we will improve at the back.

I thought Obeng had a pretty solid debut, but that it was too early to tell with Lenighan.  Lincolnshire long ball grade meant he reall could get in the game for long periods.  In the last 20 minutes we sowed something I have not seen often this season - we got stuck in.  There was one passage of play where we won 3 consecutive 50:50 balls, including one from Wilkinson.  I think Moult had a much better game than recently, and both Patterson and Richman gave really good accounts of themselves.  It was a better away performance against a conference national team than games like Eastleigh,Torquay, Braintree etc last season

Lets hope that we can now start to build up our performances ongoing. Let this be the catalyst for continued improvement. I feel we have enough good players to be able to build on this but lets also try and cut out silly mistakes which are costing us games.

I hope Tom Hannigan is ok for next week, we need him.

Enjoyed the day and particularly the last 30 minutes of the game when we suddenly sprang into life with the changes of personnel. Patterson and Richman made a difference and Marsh held the ball up - credit to Jim Harvey. However for the first hour, we offered very little and were disappointing considering this was the First Round of the FA Cup.

John Cyrus is an Evostick player and looks like one, quite why we Young signed him i'll never know, but we should be looking to replace him if we want to give ourselves a chance. In the second half, Moult looked the more accomplished Centre Half, which shouldn't be the case. Also I've never seen a manager give a goalkeeper a technical lesson before, during a match - Dawber needs to look at himself. Was Deasy injured?

Also full marks from me for Andrew McWilliams who i thought was our man of the match, he was up and down that left wing all afternoon, defending well and trying to create further up the field. The fact that he hasn't been mentioned is probably because he was doing his job.

I made the trip not for the Board, or even the majority of the players but because I think Jim Harvey is on to something although whether he has enough time or resources to keep us up remains to be seen.
