Grass is always greener I guess.  Maybe this time it will be.  Seems a strange move unless he is going in the Conference .

Thanks for the effort Bandy.

My first choice woukd have been Munroe and Rose so lets hope that Munroe can get signed up.

Ecky you will like this bit

With Band following Justin Bowler out of the door, only five of last year's core squad are yet to sign new deals.

Thanks Bandy and good luck for the future

Glad to see Rose has signed up.  He always looked solid when i saw him last season.  He and Munroe could be a solid partnership next year, with Talbot as back up and hopefully a youngster coming through we should be able to cope without Band.  Still, shame he won't be with us next year.

I was surprised to see Munroe needs to think about his future, given the time it took him to settle here I would think starting again was a high risk move.  Most of us wouldn't have been as patient as GH was and he may not find such a shrewd judge willing to give him time at another club IF he leaves.  Also his ability to give away penalties (especially St Albans) may put a few off.  I hope he stays.

Re Justin Bowler.

I wait with interest to see whcih other club he can hoodwink into thinking he is a winger.

Bet he has a trial with Farsley...

Bit harsh to put Bandy in the same sentance as Bowler  ???

Thanks for all you have done for Alty Mr Band but I will reserve judgements on good lucks and such until I find out where you are going. My guess is back to Hyde ?

Peter Band owes Altrincham absolutely nothing! I think therefore it's more than a bit rich for anyone to criticise him or to call his loyalty or commitment into question.

He, like others before him who have been discarded, has turned out for us when he wasn't fit but didn't want to let us down.

Perhaps he's pre empting the elbow, whichever and whatever, he deserves our thanks and good wishes for the future WHEREVER he ends up (may have to barrack him a bit if/when he plays against us though!)

Personally I'll send him and Lou all the best with huge appreciation to them both!

Perhaps he was simply embarrassed by the fact that his wife revealed on this very Forum that she is a Take That groupie!

No player owes Alty anything so credit to those who are staying to fight the cause.

With Bandy gone I'm hoping it's a sign we'll be playing more sexy football this season.

I was also delighted to see the Cote mention Kieran and Eddie...not a bad swap deal for bandy that i'd say.

Also great to see youth being given a chance with Talbs staying!

Many thanks for all your fantastic efforts during your time with Alty Bandy. Good luck whatever the future may hold for you, you're a fantastic bloke and you've always given your heart and soul in an Alty shirt.

Gary Talbot has been a fantastic servant of Altrincham Football Club and I told him as much at the Race Night. Can't help feeling it might have been wise to bring in someone a bit younger at this stage but maybe his aerial ability will be a big asset in Blue Square North. Not sure the mere ability to head the ball justifies a place in a small squad of 16 players though.     ???

16 players is small but we have retained our squad from last year so i doubt wages will have gone down much, the players we have lost will have shed the wage budget by just enough, would have prefered there to be 18 or so as i'm sure GH would have but moneys tight so we get the best in on our budget if that means only 16 man squad so be it, means the reserves can be blooded better if injuries should arise.

Bandys done well for us and is a nice bloke, if he goes back to Hyde then good luck to him. That's where he started off so I know he's well thought of and it doesn't bother me. I wish him well. I got the feeling at the race night that he wasn't quite as in with the crowd Bush and co as he might be, maybe a bit square for them. So at 33 he moves on. I think he played very well for us last season although as a partnership I think Rose and Munroe were the key for us, especially distributionwise, altho whether that's the case in the ConfNorth we will (unfortunately have to) find out.

Quote from the Official Site:

Heathcote told SAM Sport: 'Bandy has decided it's time for him to move on, it's as simple as that. It's a shame because he's a good player and he's done a good job for us the last two seasons but this is the second time he's left the club now. Now I just want a core squad of 16 fully fit and committed players to start the season...

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what Graham means?
Title: Re: Peter Band leaves Altrincham
Post by: markecky on May 17, 2007, 01:49:54 PM
As I read it means

"Bandy has been in to see me and said he's off. Not that surprised really as he had done it before.  Its a shame because he is quite good but thats life.  If he does not want to  be here, I can't make him and will get someone in who does"

How do you read it then?

Peter Band leaving should be viewed as a good omen for Alty.

After all, the last time that he abandoned Moss Lane and fled to Northwich, we went on to get promoted back to the Conference!

A big loss in my opinion.

Always gave 100%, top bloke and (I thought) bled red and white stripes. Would love to know why he left but onwards and upwards.

A like for like replacement would be Garry Burke who I believe will not be with Droylscum next season, bit long in the toothe but would be good cover for Munro (hopefully) and Rose.

The main question is what will happen to the very small Alty shirt with 'Band Jnr' ?

I understand a football player wants to play at the best possible level, however i agree with the view that we need players here who have Altrincham at there heart Bandy obviously wants to play firstly in the Blue chip whoever that may be with, so in the long run for the club and the team its probably for the best.

PS thanks for your efforts while with us you rarely dissapointed

Firstly, this is from me, nothing to do with Bandy.
I wasnt even going to lower myself to reply to some of the comments that have been put on this and another post, but why shouldn't I?
Not everyone is vindictive, and there have been more positive comments than negative.
Bandy is not leaving under a bad cloud, he has simply said he wants to move on and feels that now is the right time. He has his own reasons, and he doesnt have to explain himself to anyone. (Except ME!!).

cannot belive he has done this again to another club being relegated from the conference i.e us twice and vics once

YES I AM PROUD actually, he has achieved a lot considering he was a sunday league player. He hasnt been at any academy or league club, but he HAS battled his way up to play credible semi-pro football. He's never purposefully played below his capability, never moaned about being played out of position, never complained if the ball isnt played directly to his feet, and so on.

All in all, he has been a bloody good servant to this club like it or not, and to slag him off is out of order.
He has never screwed the club for a contract, or money, or anything else. He has helped with fundraising, and off the field events.

Have your opinions about his footballing skills by all means, not a problem, but getting personal crosses the line and its not on.
Nobody has the right to judge him or call him a Judas for gods sake. He heard it all last time, (and its frankly quite boring), when he left to play for a conference club, and kept them in the conference by scoring the goal that did it by the way. (Regardless of the fact it was Northwich who I really really didnt like but thats beside the point).
He came back after being asked to on numerous occasions by the people that actually matter at the club, i.e. the manager etc. Not the other way round.
All I know is that he WONT be going to play for Northwich (over my dead body) or Droylsden (ditto), and that he hasnt actually signed for anyone yet.
Playing for Alty is a job, you are employed by the club, just like you are employed by your boss at work, simple as. have you all workrd for the same people for all your life? Probably not in most cases. This is no different, so why is it such a bloody big deal?

Anyway, thanks to those who have wished him well, I will miss it all, Max will miss the people who have always made us welcome, but thats life folks, rant over.

PS. Robininstockport - Max's shirt will be framed to go alongside his dads framed alty shirt (cos he was always proud to wear it).

May I just say i think this time Peter has left for the right reasons for himself and Alty and no grudges are held from me for this departure (unlike last time). Personally I think Peter wants and maybe deserves to be a star of his team and last season was often behind Rose and Munroe or shunted into midfield and he didn't fancy another season of that.

He did exceptionally well to win us back though after defecting to Northwich  when had Bandy stayed at that time he would have been part of the heroic play off squad. It is sad that someone like Bandy who undoubtedly gave 110% for Alty wasn't involved in that and will never have merories of that fantastic 2 weeks or be remembered for them...but that's football!

Bandy also appreciated the fans at Alty and I hope he treasures his POY trophies the people 'who matter' at the club rewarded him with.

My fave memory of bandy apart from seeing his bandy legged determination on the pitch has to be his grovelling at last yeasr race night when he apologised profusely for his errant ways in joing Vics...true repentance!!

Oh and I think Mrs Band's rating of Peter as a Sunday league player was shameful...worse than being described as a headless chicken.......no wonder he's left when he gets such criticism....you'd expect more loyalty from the missus!

This is football, its what happens. Things get said and opinions get cast from the knowledge you have at your disposal. Yes, some things said on this thread are both incorrect and ridiculous but in all fairness they aren't as bad as what has been said about several of our current 1st team players in the past.

I will stand with Jezza on this that 1st time round Mr Band earnt the title of judas, and in football these things will always get said, like it or lump it. This time round I don't really see what all the fuss is about, however i've re-affirmed what I said all along.

You can be very proud of Peter, not many goals that good have been scored at Woodley Sports! I do mean it when I say it was all a bit 'judas', but I also sincerely mean it when I say all the best for the future.

Perhaps not taking the fans forum so seriously would be the best advice, we're not exactly 'right wing ultras', we're just directing our passion for Alty!

You're right Jezza, Bandy ALWAYS appreciated the fans, and those bloody trophies are in the cabinet which I have to dust every week!
I must say though, Bandy doesn't want to be the star of any team, just not that type of guy at all. And if he was behind the other defenders last season, surely Graham wouldn't have played his as first choice before one of them? (just my opinion).
No, Bandy wasnt involved in that final 2 weeks when promotion was won,but we were at the play off final, and I had sit next to him saying "it should of been me" - I think he learnt his lesson there and paid for it for sure!

As for the 'judas' tag, I personally just don't like that label. I think he definitely earnt a title last time - maybe Idiot was more appropriate, but this time round he most certainly is NOT behaving Judas-like at all, sometimes people just need a new challenge that's all.

Best of  luck for next season.

Firstly, I'd like to thank Bandy for his nothing less than 120% effort and dedication in the past 2 years and that Mrs Band, you're spot on. Good luck for the future.

Secondly, Perhaps we as fans should be more interested in whether or not the Bushell and Munroe are going to sign for another year.

I have posted a short tribute to Bandy on the STAR website.

Note he did not get one when he left for Vics and had he never left for Vics he would have got one bigger than the one I did for Mad-Dog!!!

Oh and I have given you a Goodwin for sheer unquestioning loyalty to Peter...as we appreciate that at Alty.

All the best

However, time to move on. The poster suggesting we should now be discussing whether Munroe/Bushell are going to re-sign is quite right. It is now imperative we get as many as last season's squad to stay with us for our promotion fight.

I'd just like to add good luck Bandy at Hyde or wherever it may be, judas is unfair, you are no Stuart Terry. I'm sure paths will cross in the future. Only the man himself and his wife (poss GH etc) are fully entitled to know the real reasons, as has been said, you ARE entitled to change jobs.

Besides, here's to Max Band playing central defence in League 2 in  2023!
