Title: our own real ale
Post by: thegazelle on August 04, 2016, 04:36:25 PM
an embryonic idea but would love some constructive input i am negotiating with Poynton Brewery who will brew our own Altrincham FC ale .
which will be stocked at the old market tavern

what type of ale would you prefer  ?
i think a nice hoppy (robins do hop) pale session ale about 4%

Any ideas for names ?

we would also design a pump clip any input from the class welcome

if the club is free of tie perhaps it could also be served in the community hall

let me have your thoughts

Top idea Pete, first thoughts are about the beer style, many regard the light hoppy type as summer beers, in the same way dark beers are perceived as winter ales. You're in the business, do the lighter hoppy styles still shift through the winter....which is much of the season? My preferred style, I'm not a big fan of boring brown beer these days. Plenty of expertise around on here to help with designing a pump clip.....and beermats?

A bitter with fuggles and Golding hops, can't go wrong with that combo, 5 abv?

A handful of Chinook and Cascade dry hopped would raise the flavour significantly, more towards an American IPA.

As a regular Friday and Saturday-nighter at the OMT (fan of the beer - not the rock music)..........then anything that resembles the Northern Lights is welcome.

Colin Little to be invited to pull the first pint to the sound of Fanfare for the common man

Hoppy pale session allow is exactly the way to go, it appeals much more broadly than traditional bitter etc , you can even persuade lager drinkers onto it sometimes
Great idea and yes it would be good to have in the CSH

Something along the lines of Timothy Taylor's landlord would be a great shout, or something resembling Deer Beer by Dunham Brewery.

I'm sure that if you got the club involved they'd be able to let you know about any ties that they have and any reason why they wouldn't be able to sell it.

Mr Jolly and others would be good to contact regarding marketing/pump clip designs.

When a shortlist of names have been decided a forum poll should be started and a democratic vote is imperative. :)

My view is an ale that changes across the season. Whether Reeves bags a hat trick, or we put a cup run together, the name could change

I also think the club should see if local pubs would sponsor beer mats with Alty fixtures on one side, and their bar on the other. They could be used in the CSH on match day and by the pub all week

You're all a bit slow. It is already on sale in Costellos. Alty Ale 4.0 ABV with the club crest on the pump clip.

I presume that this has all been done through the club (seeing as the crest has been used on the pump clip etc)?

If so, why has this not been pushed by the club and announced across all forms of communication, social media etc.

This is a huge boost for the club and, marketed correctly, could be a big drive for the local community and potentially increase support across the town.

If it has been put on the website in the lead up to its release etc then I apologise.

The club shared it on twitter not sure about the website

It does not mention the club though to be fair and it's the towns crest not just the clubs
