Title: Yankee
Post by: SW on July 13, 2016, 07:20:49 PM
Anyone else had this letter today about the club not running the Yankee anymore? I thought it brought in a decent wedge, can't believe interest and promotion has failed like this.

Think  the hope is most people transfer to the monthly draw

Personally I think it's daft. Unless it is losing money (which I can't see) the. Surely it'd be worth leaving it open.

If everybody could be encouraged to do it online and payments were made online it wouldn't be any hassle to keep it.

Even if it only makes 2-300 quid a year it's better than nothing.

Can we have any confirmation from the club/TASC as to why this is being done?

The letter referred to above states:

"..in recent times, with the lack of canvassers, the numbers have dwindled to a point where it has become uneconomical to run.."

So that would seem to be both a lack of canvassers and lack of players.

I'll switch to the monthly draw ..

I've had no letter (as of yet) about this and play the Yankee via the club monthly by standing order.

The letter requests you to consider leaving the standing order in force, while switching to the Monthly Draw. I'm OK with that.

why on earth haven't the club  taken the Lottery info part of the website down so people know what has happened.

Im curious now to see how long it hasn't been operating. the result info on the site dates back to May 2015

Ive just this minute been chatting to Derek Wilshaw on the phone and he explained that as of 1 Sep 16 the Yankee will cease then if agreed the outstanding funds people have paid will go towards the Monthly draw.

People who pay by Standing Order / D/D have been sent letters .

I didn't get a letter as I pay by cheque, and I get a reminder (usually from Darren who PMs me when my fees are due)

I am happy with all that now.

While accepting the reasoning and happy to transfer, my main concern is that as the Yankee has run for so long, how many people have either forgotten they were in it and paying a small amount each month which they might not have noticed or cannot be bothered to send the authorisation back? We could actually lose out without the projected increase in membership and rewards from the draw. This needs to be pushed and marketed well, people are generally apathetic if they once joined something that is no longer all that important to them.

Quote from the main website

The Club has written to all members of the Saturday Yankee inviting them to transfer their payments to the Monthly Draw.

I have 3 family members play it at different addresses not heard a thing

I think people will still be collecting if people dont want to pay by standing order.

I understood that was half the problem?

The Saturday yankee finishes on September 1st,to me its a bad idea because I don't believe many will transfer over to the monthly draw, agents cant get £1 off members never mind £5 even though its a monthly payment. In all the club are just going to lose the yankee  takings with very few transferring over.im an agent and afraid not one of my members are willing to transfer to the draw, so from 1 agent the club will lose over £250 a month. lets hope more supporters will donate money to the club as we have seen recently or its not going to survive, and I cant see much effort being made to generate income.

I'm an agent and the vast majority of mine will transfer over.

I finally got my letter about the Yankee today - it was sent to my old address and kindly forwarded on by the current tenant. I have lost count of the times I've asked the club to update my address on their records but it seems impossible for them to do so. Perhaps this also explains the many other people on this thread who've yet to receive their letter? A radical thought here but perhaps if the club switched to this new-fangled 'e-mail' system we're suddenly hearing so much about...

It's a shame about the Yankee but as the official website stopped posting the results a while ago, it was as if it didn't exist for me anyway. I'm already in the Friends' draw, so I think I'll look for another way to give the club my Yankee money.

Re. emailing, I completely agree. The renewal forms etc have asked for email addresses for years, yet everything is always posted (which must cost them an unnecessary fortune in postage).

I've also told the club several times that I'm a Miss, not a Mrs (as they seem to think I'm married to my dad). I've also asked them to add my sister's details to their system so she can be emailed about her season ticket renewal, but she never is  ::)

if you pay for the Yankee by standing order and want to transfer if over to the monthly draw simply send a five or six word email to

Office@altrinchamfootballclub.co.uk

This will help in two ways, one contributing to funding the football team and two giving the club up to date contact details for people thus saving the need to spend money posting stuff out to old addresses etc. If your not in either draw and want to join by standing order email the above or fill In one of the many leaflets inside the bar on match day.
