Sure we'll get someone else but IMO people's downer on Rankine is a bit OTT. He scored 16 goals in a struggling team and early doors was very impressive. He appeared to lack energy and motivation towards the end of the season and made some poor performances, but overall I think was a good player for us.

Amazing how people had so much hatred for a guy who was our leading scorer last season. Sure, he faded at the end but he was clearly playing when he shouldn't have been with back and ankle injuries. He scored some great goals, was an outlet for our ale house long balls from our uncultured play from defence, and personally I am sorry to see him go.

Ok, well let's see if we keep it on the deck next season and play to Damian's strengths. Somehow I doubt it, but to blame Ranks is pushing it

I think 13 league goals from 30 starts compares very favourably with the majority of strikers we've had in the last 40 odd years, particularly in the 'top' league. The frustration with Ranks was his fitness couldn't see him complete two matches a week and it showed. Undoubtedly will find a place as a squad player in the national division which was exactly what he was at Gateshead. I like NY's approach, he's clearly got a plan on squad numbers linked to budget and player reliability and is sticking to it.

He was ok, I'm only mystified as to which conf clubs are offering him contracts surely as a last 10 mins disruptor as he can't run through 90 mins, he and Perry are the type of forwards we can do without neither were as good at it as Johnson on his day (and what a sad waste of talent that was)

He faded and gave up like a lot of others did at the tail end of the season

He also seemed very unfit by the end of the season but generally the squad fitness was poor

On form he was worth keeping but I'm not going to shed any tears however wish him all the best for the future

Just a shame he and reeves could not form a partnership, good luck to him in the future, just as long as its not against in.

Player of the season for the first 3 months but tailed off dramatically. Carrying way too much weight at the end of the season, and appeared he needed full time training to keep in some sort of shape. Not too bothered about him going to be honest.
Shouldn't we have an answer from James Lawrie soon too? Fingers crossed somebody in the Conference has offered him terms too.

It's a pity as we were all delighted when Rankine signed last year and I think he was a decent player for plan B and did OK.
The problem really was he wasnt very effective at linking play and really never struck up an understanding with Reevesy and our pattern of play wasnt good enough to carve out enough chances. Most of his goals came for longer range shots and pens, few headers but we didnt get enough crosses in all season.

Thanks Michael and good luck wherever you end up, hope its not in CN  :-\

Agree on the Rankine comment

If any other Conf National team has offered JL a gig then they are in trouble - I do think he could maybe do a job for us in the North, but as someone I would have released two seasons running now, if he stays - fine, if he goes - fine also

Sorry but the reason for hoof ball tactics was down to management . Nobody else
That's one of the reasons we got relegated

Not recognising we were slipping a point closer to the trapdoor as each week passed beyond Christmas is to me what makes our situation so disappointing - it will take a very good side to win this division and plain good sides could be in it for years

Let us hope we are that exceptional team come April

A thought that Michael was a decent player and IF FIT would do well for us next season. The question is how many games would he be fit for.
Nice bloke, so all the best to him.

Disappointed that he has gone tbh.

I hope he doesn't come back to haunt us in some competition or other.

On his day he was unplayable but, just like Kyle Perry the ball was played up in the air to him far too much. A very capable player with really good feet who sadly nevr got much chance to show that and whose Alty career was IMHO sabotaged by a team mate

Are you back, Phil, and would you care to mention the player?

Disappointed to see him go - people seem to forget he worked his socks off at the start of the season, and clearly wasn't fit towards the end of it.

Good luck to him.

No

If you had no intention of naming the player you feel was responsible for having "sabotaged" Rankine's Alty career, then why bother mentioning it at all? It serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever, unless your aim was really to say "hey look at me and my insider insights".

lets not use any conspiracy theories,he didn't like the financial offer, just like Scott Im not knocking him for that but that is the only reason they both left

The No was a reply to the questions as to whether I was back and whether my post referred to the ladies team.

I am, as people keep saying entitled to an opinion and I have expressed my PERSONAL opinion that Michael Rankine's time at Altrincham was at best hindered and at worst sabotaged (I know it's a strong term) by another player

There is no hint of any "inside info" in my opinion - I actually don't get any "inside info" as it is put. Merely a personally held view which I don't think it helpful to share on a public forum at this time when we are trying to move forward.

So, why bother mentioning it at all when "we are trying to move forward"?

Pointless.

EXACTLY this. It would have been lovely for the 2 to play together, but after half a dozen games we should have realised switching to 4-5-1, getting the personnel for it (e.g. Ginnelly), and then sticking to it, would have been the answer.

I know people still feel raw about the avoidable relegation (Mr Rowley will have learned his lesson I'm sure), but the personal jibes at some of the players have been daft as hell.

Ranks scored 1 in 3 in a poor side, he was clearly an upgrade from Perry, and I suspect will still be an asset to some clubs at National level.

How ironic....in light of just how pivotal his miss late in our home game against them last February eventually proved to be as regards our relegation and them avoiding the drop:
