Here's the highlights of Burton v Colchester

Big game, Tough ask, will we see a couple of new faces for next week?

No because the manager knows f**k all players

Everyone he knows from Port Vale that could do a job already here

I would like to think so but probably not, we will give it a good go at Colchester but I will go for a 3-1 defeat , would have gone for a draw if it wasnt for the red cards today.

we'll score, we'll concede. BTTS in this game is the surely safest bet since Bristol rovers to win at home to Braintree last day of last season (ended 7-0)
won't see any new faces due to the aforementioned reasons and his self defeating "love of running with a small squad".

5-2 in front of 3800 - (300 alty)

Remember that Heathcote played well against Barnsley when he came on for Luca, and at Bromley against the leagues top scorer, he has nothing to fear. It's not ideal, but I think we can cope. I've said since the draw happened we'd get a score draw and hopefully finish them off at Moss Lane week before Christmas, and I'm not changing my mind now.

Absolutely nothing to fear next week. 11 men v 11 men and to be honest there isn't much between a conference player and a league 1 player these days. I wouldn't bring anybody in this week. Let Sam play alongside Scott and let him talk and boss Sam through the game. Would rather have one of our own in than some half arsed academy lad in from another club.
Title: Re: Colchester - MATCH THREAD
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on November 29, 2015, 11:59:41 AM
You can tell they've not played conference football for 20 years

"Alty will certainly get stuck in if we allow them. They are a National League side and that's what you do in the National League, unencumbered by Academies. And a formula for Football. If it is better than you to opt for trying to kick it off the park. Sorry, Ref, I was going for the ball."

"For Altrincham, I'd bring back George. He's the most likely to want to get 'stuck in' and deal with the physicality of National League players in my view."

If they think we're going there for a scrap they'll be in for a shock....

O'Keefe's absence is worse IMO, because it means that the progressively ineffective Bowerman will probably make the starting XI. Sam Heathcote, while inexperienced, hasn't actually done anything wrong from what I've seen.

We're now 6/1 with SkyBet. Still not tempted by it to be honest, 10/3 with the Draw No Bet option seems a lot more reasonable.

For those mentioning Both Teams To Score, I wouldn't be quick to back it at 4/7.

Beaten 5-1 by Burton at the weekend, the more i think about this game the more i think we can win it. It is certainly going to be hard going, especially if the red cards come in to effect, but we most definately can win. Barnsley now bottom of the table and Colchester 4th from bottom.

Will be interesting to see if this is true or just a rumour. I personally think if there's no practical reason for doing so that a special commemorative kit for a game against Colchester United is a bit over the top, should save it for our game at Arsenal in the next round!!  ;)

Huge odds drift on us, we're now out to 8/1.

Goalscorer odds are also available now with Bet365:

Damian Reeves 11/4
George Bowerman 3/1
Michael Rankine 7/2
James Lawrie 4/1
Joel Swift 4/1 (?!)
Nicky Clee 5/1
Ryan Crowther 5/1
Rhain Davis 6/1 (?!)
Jordan Sinnott 7/1
Sam Heathcote 7/1
Jake Moult 11/1
Simon Richman 11/1
Adam Griffin 14/1
Shaun Densmore 14/1
Scott Leather 18/1

Surely Scott Leather is worth a fiver?

Anyone who has seen our away record over the calendar year couldn't seriously back us at a league 1 side.

However, we've clearly caught them at the right time and will have decent support behind us at one of the most poorly supported sides in the third tier. We've got a sniff and they can't defend, stranger things have happened...

I see 'a strong Colchester squad' (their own Twitter accounts words) scraped past Canvey Island 7-6 on Pens at home in the Essex Senior Cup. Obviously you can't read much into County cups but gives us more encouragement I'd say.

"Just got back from the game. Saw the future of ColU (nine first teamers started) and it was not good. In fact it was very worrying. I know it was only the Essex Senior Cup but players were playing for places. We conceded in the first half, won't be surprised it was a scrappy goal from a set-piece. We only scored after Canvey had been reduced to ten men and then it was an own goal. Sammie put us ahead against the run of play and then it was backs against the wall before Canvey equalised from another set piece. Yes we were hanging on against ten man Canvey.

DSF, Bonne, Drey were all awful. Sammie was lively but his finishing is poor, had many scoring chances. Lapslie, Elokobi, KSF, Tosin all played.

Humiliation was avoided when we won the penalties, I think it was 8-7, I lost count.

The team was full of our young 'stars' and I'm afraid it was a shambles. I went hoping to be inspired and came away more depressed than ever"

I suppose the team would have to be the following:

                    Deasy

Sinnott  Heathcote  Leather  Griffin

             Moult         Richman
Crowther        Lawrie            Clee

                     Reeves

Subs: Rankine, Bowerman, A.N.Others

I have every faith in the individuals in that XI to come up with the goods, with 2 decent subs to freshen things up as well.

Subs: Rankine, Bowerman, A.N.Others

I have every faith in the individuals in that XI to come up with the goods, with 2 decent subs to freshen things up as well.

I suspect the team will look very similar to that. Possibly Crowther on the left and Bowerman on the right to bring Clee off the bench and cause tired legs trouble.

I suppose the team would have to be the following:

                    Deasy

Sinnott  Heathcote  Leather  Griffin

             Moult         Richman
Crowther        Lawrie            Clee

                     Reeves

I often like Clee to come off the bench and cause mayhem, but i feel if we don't get a good start it will run away with us. I think if fully fit, we should play Clee from the off he is simply our most dangerous player on the ball.

I agree with you if he's fully fit but I don't know where he stands, fitness wise. If he's not then I reckon we'll see the above.

fully agree, this aint a game to keep it tight and hope to nick late on

Their weakness is defence, we need to get at them early and score. An early goal for us will rock them

This is not a game we want to be chase, we not got the players available to that. But we most certainly got the players to get at least one goal against them, get them early and they will implode

The longer the game tight the less chance we have of getting through

Yep, totally agree with this. We must get at them from the outset.

354 tickets sold from the ground as of 4pm, so that added to those from the south paying on the day should leave us with a healthy following for game so far away at 2pm on Sunday. Great stuff, let's make sure we get behind the lads

Easily knocking on the door of 400 there then, good support for 14:00 on a Sunday. Hope everyone can make it into the ground ten or so minutes before kick off.

Is there any TV channel showing it?

... I can't make the game and thought like last time (Setanta Ireland) there might be a foreign channel showing it that people know of.

Anyway no worries... Comon alty!

Think its unlikely to be streamed - they generally don't send a full outside broadcasting unit to the Sunday FA Cup games - just one or two cameras

Great news that Shaun is nearing fitness again, hope he's on the bench sunday, it would be too much to ask him starting I think.

Here's hoping that his comeback goes smoothly, we need him.

Probably been mentioned elsewhere, but just noticed that Colchester's next league game is a real relegation 6-pointer v Barnsley. Maybe, that'll be their priority. I know I'm clutching at straws, but...

Indeed. London Alty will be all pay on the day, I'd guesstimate we'll take around bang on 400. Liverpool Street Spoons will be getting some great custom on Sunday morning.

Yes, screwed me right over, no SW Trains till about 3.30 today. Nearly 2 hours into London from here by bus and tube, sod that.
