I see Barnsley lost again today at Scunny. Believe that's 6 league defeats in a row for them now. Following some of their main Twitter accounts the supporters seem thoroughly fed up and have no faith in their management. Seems like we are playing them at the right time at least...

Unless they sack Johnson before next Saturday, they have a game on Tuesday .

Should there be a replay, it'd be a Tuesday.  But if a live TV company wanted it, we could end up wednesday or Thursday ala Burton

Quote from a Barnsley fan, taken from a thread about Tuesday's game vs Coventry:

"...with a record-breaking (for our time in the 3rd tier anyway) 6th loss in a row vs Scunny on Saturday we're literally going to get smashed here. I'm only going because I've recently moved further south and it's only about an hour away now. Don't imagine many others will be. Jim O'Brien to score a second half hatty, our sh*thouses to extend their run of failing to score from open play to over 750 minutes."

I am assuming we are sold out - if there was a queue to the King George and only 200 left at that stage, they will be all gone now.  I have not even tried to get one since I read that post - there's no point

On a serious point, it would be nice if anyone has any inside info on how many tickets sold. We were talking on Saturday and thinking we may sell around 1,500 to 2,000 with maybe 1,000 away tickets sold.

United playing, so may get some City floaters, but Barnsley fans seriously dejected with their team at the moment.

So with that i am going to start the prediction thread !!!

Good point, ticket sales updates will form part of the stuff that will be going out all week.

Fans can play a huge part in spreading the word on this (as they have been doing already which has been superb) by tweeting and sharing the facebook and twitter updates as well as obviously telling everyone they know.

The power of social media these days is incredible and we can really use it to our advantage,

If you are on facebook and haven't done so yet can you share the latest post that contains the great Alty TV promo video and the link for ticket details:

https://www.facebook.com/altrinchamfc

Or find a post and retweet it on the Alty twitter here https://twitter.com/altrinchamfc

We will have a link to download and print the match poster in PDF form later this afternoon as well if you could get up at work or in a local shop.

So potentially Barnsley to sell their 1650 and alty to sell say 1,500.

3,000 crowd is not bad, but i would hope we can get 2,000 sold and push the attendance up to 3,500.

Barnsley gaffers thoughts towards Saturday

""We’re short at the moment, we’ve got injuries," he added. "Our bench tonight was really young, maybe a bit too young. It’s really important that we get a win Saturday and then Tuesday.

"If we play like that we will. We will fully respect the opposition but it’s a big game for us now, the players can’t treat it like a first round tie it needs to be a cup final. We’ll take an abundance of fans I’m sure and I hope everyone enjoys their day.""

If only 2000 have been sold, we need to have on the day sales of some sort for those who only decide to turn up tomorrow. Under 2500 attendance would be a big disappointment IMO.

Don't know how this would work security wise though

Don't know what else the club could have done to be fair. The game has been all over social media this week and tickets have been on sale since last Friday. The information about the game is out there and not hard to find. No doubt some will kick off about pay on the day but people have had 8 days to buy tickets now.
Title: Re: Barnsley thread

I agree Sarf.

The problem maybe is that the people on social media are perhaps posting to those that already go to the games. Will it reach those floating fans.

I dont know as i dont get the papers but was information released in LAST weeks local rag, this weeks would be leaving it late. Have there been adverts up in the town center and on local radio (i dont go to Alty usually and listen to radio 1).

Of course everything needs volunteers, but it also appears that some predictions of 500 barnsley fans is more on the button that Barnsley saying they will bring boat loads.

2000 would be a disappointment, 3000 would be where i was hoping it would be.

Sorry, but to have pay on the day would destroy the whole point of ticketing. Once you decide to ticket the away end you simply have to do the same for the rest of the ground, and to have a cash turnstile on the day would invite troublemakers. People have known about the game for long enough & the info has been available.

So if Barnsley had agreed to play on Sunday it probably wouldn't have been made all-ticket and they may have brought more supporters. Another reason could be they have decided to stay at home and watch the match on a dodgy decoder. Either way Barnsley have cost us and themselves money from this cup-tie. They are not very bright in Barnsley are they?

I'd be very interested to know how the marketing has been outside of the club and its supporters and I cannot comprehend why it is cash only.......in 2015, I only pay cash for minor transactions or in the pub. I am actually irritated in some situations if the person before me holds me up my friggin around with cash. Cards are quick, contactless takes 3 seconds. If my local Asian shop can do this why the hell can't we?

Cards are so f**king crap that I'm going to stop taking them in the cab. Lost three fares this year because the card won't accept and the punter hasn't got money with them. Cash is king.

I'd be very interested to know how the marketing has been outside of the club and its supporters and I cannot comprehend why it is cash only.......in 2015, I only pay cash for minor transactions or in the pub. Where is the nearest cash machine to the ground? What do you do on a matchday when you might want to impulse buy something in the club shop or get some drinks in the csh and you dont have enough cash? You cant do it.  You can with a card.

Cards are so much more convenient and encourage spending. The issue for the club is probably the cost of getting the terminals and what it costs to process the payments. You often need a decent volume of card payments to make it viable.

I think on balance the club have done all they reasonably can once the police made the decision they wanted an all ticket match even though it probably didn't need to be.

We've sold tickets by cash, card and online. The club has been open til 7pm every night. There's been a league game and a well attended youth cup game.

It's been on social media, even had a decent evening news piece.

Ultimately, needless all ticket matches impinge on attendance but we're still going to get double our normal league crowd.

As I said a week ago, it's our first home fa cup game for 3 years. When we review it, we'can look at lots of things, how effective was social media, could we find other outlets like local sports clubs or pubs to sell tickets, could ticket be given to people on sale or return?

A lot probably not but it's for another time now. Let's enjoy the day, not worry about coulda should woulda sold more tickets.

Up the Robins

Stuck in stationary traffic for the last hour on the M6 with no sign of movement and a bad accident with all 3 lanes blocked ahead. Looks like we are going to miss the match. Hmmm!

If it helps the Highways agency says it's only two lanes closed now, so you're in with a chance.

"On the M6 northbound between junctions J15 and J16, there are currently delays of 20 mins caused by congestion due to a multi-vehicle accident closing two lanes at junction J16. Normal traffic conditions expected from 2:30 pm.   "

BBC report was going well until the last line - they had more territory for the last half hour but not sure they dominated for large spells

Damian Reeves' strike sent National League side Altrincham through to the second round of the FA Cup at the expense of League One Barnsley.
Jake Moult came close to putting Altrincham in front when Adam Davies tipped his effort over the bar.
The Robins took the lead just after half-time when Ryan Crowther's shot was parried into the stride of Reeves, who tapped into an open net.
The win sends Alty into the second round for the first time since 2001.
It also heaps the pressure on Barnsley boss Lee Johnson who is currently overseeing their worst run in 56 years, having lost their previous seven League One games.
Altrincham, who sit 45 league places below the Tykes, have not beaten a Football League side in this competition since a second-round win over Wigan in December 1994.
Barnsley are the 17th league side to lose to Alty in the FA Cup, which is a record for the most league scalps by a team never to feature in the Football League.
The Tykes dominated the game for large spells but were made to pay for missing a series of clear chances.

To be fair there is a lot of coverage of us all over BBC football pages and even the home page

Couldn't make it today, but I was so proud of Alty.

Special shout out to Sam Heathcote who was awesome when he came on.

Loved the pitch invasion, it was amazing to see all the young lads enjoying themselves.

Love Alty.

Now the dust has settled I'd just like to congratulate Lee, Neil and staff and all the players for writing another page in the history books, superb stuff. Also special thanks to the chairman, board of directors and all staff paid and volunteers for their tireless work in the last fortnight in ensuring Saturday was such a great day for the club. Everything ran in seamless fashion, well done one and all
