Title: 4th qualifying round live game announced
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on October 14, 2015, 05:25:02 PM
BT Sport have announced they have chosen to show Margate v Forest Green live on 24th Oct with a 12:30 kick off, was never likely to be a northern game, they don't like going further than an hour from London unless it's on the east coast mainline

If BT televised Alty's game, someone would come on here to complain about having to change their train tickets.

Bollocks to BT and /or Sky..
All they have done is creeate the Monster aka The Premier league.
If they came here they would probably want to take over the whole of the popular side and want to put a camera in Dawn's snack bar...

Give me Radio Robins anyday.  Much more honest.....

At least they will get a pie with meat in at Margate rather than one of Dale Vince's vegan variations   ;)

ex BT man of 20 years here.  I agree totally with your prem league monster sentiments but BT didn't create that - the BBC and Sky did that, with BT joining the party much later on.  The more the companies pay for the telly rights the more they have to big up what they call a "product", the more hype and frankly, in my view, a lot more bollocks.

it didn't take sky or BT to take over the popular side we did that anyway

I accept that BT didnt create the monster but they have contributed to it in a major way.. I have Sky but i dont watch the prem games that often tbh.  Much prefer to watch the lower league games..

Here what your saying Jimmy, its thankfully a lot better these days ..

Yep - they have. They upped the price to even stupider money.  I have BT but can count on one finger the prem or euro games i have watched on it.  I sometimes watch the scottish games and of the Vanarama games 'n highlights.  Nowhere near as good as RR and Alty Tv!

If BT or Sky did come here and take over the place with cameras they would pay a big chunk of money for doing so and increase our profile. Fine by me.

What a f**king wank game to show more to the point. Embarrassing.

They've not even picked the one people would have interest in (fcum v Salford)

not everyone is from Manchester/Salford lad, and not everyone is an armchair United fan lad

I think the choice is fair, the highest ranked team in the draw against a lower side pushing forward. It's the perfect cup tie

I think if Margate were in better shape higher up the southern Leauge it wouldn't be a bad choice

Quite, but the guardian et al would be all over St. Fcum v the class of 92 etc.

I wouldn't show it, it's a Unibond league match but that's be the interest.

You're quite right, you can blame Figgy for this sending me daft texts.

Margate v fgr is still about the 5th tie on my list though.

An incredible amount of money being spunked on those two clubs when only 400 people are truly arsed.

Id take an educated guess at £60,000

This is BT Sport we're talking about, and the qualifying round rather than the competition proper. I suspect you'd be nearer the mark if you took one of the noughts off.

I agree Mike. It's an interesting development though. This must be the first live coverage of a game before the 1st Round Proper?

I suspect you're right - I certainly can't think of one, although there was a BBC 'Road to Wembley' package which had brief highlights of games in the qualifying rounds in 1990 - it started with Salford City v Warrington Town, included Braintree Town v Enfield, another game at Tamworth & finished with Macc v Alty (the 2-2 draw when Ken McKenna went down for a penalty & incurred the wrath of Peter Wragg, the Macc manager; when Kingy was interviewed afterwards he was asked what he thought might happen in the replay & said "Well, I don't think there'll be any penalties!") and the replay at Moss Lane when Paul Showler & Mark Hughes were among the scorers. Those were the days, my friend ...

I have that feature on video somewhere - I must find it and upload it to YouTube - the Kingy/Waragg interview is a classic. Great goal by Showler in the replay too.

Nigel Shaw took the penalty whilst the Macc goalie continued to protest. 2 months after this I went to work in India for 3 years and missed the rest of that "oh so near" 90-91 season. Just doesn't seem all that long ago.

The Salford game was the prelim round. I think the 1st qual was Gretna v someone (maybe even Warrington again). Gretna won 5-1, Mark Dobie scored.

The 2nd qual was Braintree 0 Barnet 2 (Paul Furlong scored)..

The Tamworth game was against Redditch. Tamworth won. Think it showed Mark Delaney scoring for them in the Vase final.

And then the glorious bit.

I haven't watched this video for over a decade btw...

Yes, it was Braintree v Barnet - I remember there was a clip about Fry making a signing at a motorway services! I suspect the Gretna game was v Norton & Stockton Ancients.

Interestingly the BBC were going to cover Sporting Khalsa v FCUM in some sort of live form but it has been vetoed

What annoys me is that there's no way you'd get touchline interviews etc. during the game if it was a top club, yet at this level it's seen as perfectly acceptable.  A bit patronising I think.

That maybe right about the touch line interviews but I think it's excellent that a channel is not only showing live non Leauge games and a highlights show and now cup games before round 1

"FC United seeks to change the way that football is owned and run, putting supporters at the heart of everything. This includes a better and more balanced relationship with TV."

So the TV offer means a club can get a few bob in the coffers before the inevitable winter postponements mean no gate income whilst still paying wages. If the price to be paid is a few seconds chat with the subs on the touchline, so be it in my view. After all chatting to the players like that if you're at the game is all a bit 'punk football' isn't it? Congrats to FC for having the financial stability not to have to do this - it's not the case for most.

FCUM do some great work and there are some great people there. But sometimes they are a bit up themselves.

Just for arguments sake, if we were offered the deal and it gave us the cash to get a couple more players should we turn it down?

Khalsa declined it too

To be fair, this wasn't going to be on TV and we don't know the financial details.

One of those teams will reach the first round and there's every chance they will get a TV friendly draw. It will be interesting to see what happens then when the exposure and money will be bigger.
